Shadepaw turned her head to look at the apprentice who had asked the question. She didn’t know them, which wasn’t a surprise at all, but she noticed that she hadn’t seen them at all before. When are we ever going to climb trees? Isn’t it more of a ThunderClan skill? She snorted. Even if it is ‘more of a Thunderclan skill,’ it was still extremely useful to know. If you know the tactics of your enemies, you will have the advantage. It was only tactful. Also, more knowledge means more power… And I’ll have the most power. She didn’t just want to, she felt as if she needed to. To show Clovepool, and my whole clan, that I am not useless. I am worth something…
She narrowed her amber eyes at the other apprentice’s reaction to Rookfire’s answer. How… odd. Perhaps they weren’t a mouse-brain after all. Her sharp gaze was drawn back to Hawkbite, and she pricked her ears to listen. Dismay and annoyance shot through her as she heard that she had to find a… ‘buddy.’ Just the sound of the word in her head sounded pathetic. But if she had to… And anyways, it was only to share a tree with.
She gazed around at the other apprentices uncertainly, some of which had already found their partners immediately. A prickle of apprehension rippled down her spine. Socializing. Shadepaw wasn’t exactly the best at that; but she needed a partner if she wanted to do this. Hopefully she’ll get a nice, obedient quiet one. She would be very annoyed if she’d fail just because of someone else.
Well, it's not like anyone will go up to me and ask, Shadepaw thought with a touch of resentment (it’s her own fault that she hardly knew anybody, and hardly anybody knew her, and she knows that, but it still hurt…), and she wouldn’t let that stop her. She was here for one thing: Learning how to climb trees. She didn’t need anyone else, but if she had to get someone to share a tree with her if she wanted to participate, she'd get one. Her burning amber gaze swept across the other apprentices again, this time more decisively, before latching on to a lone cat. She walked over to them, black-striped pelt rippling gracefully. “Partners?” Shadepaw asked, a little gruffly.
