Rosepaw seemed to be doing a decent job. Good to see. Firebloom's nicked ear twitched, her head slowly turning towards small movements on the ground. Mouse. Wasting no time, the scarred she-cat pounced at the rodent, swiftly catching it in her claws.

"If... If ever.-everyone's r-ready, I-I.. W-we can head back now, I-I...I suppose.." She murmured softly, before picking up her two catches and waiting for a response from the rest of the patrol.

Laughing?! Rosepaw was laughing at her?! Ugh! No way. She let out a small grumble, but didn't have any kind of good defence to give. And just like that, Rosepaw was away and hunting. Oh dear.. She tried to sniff the air again, attempting to piece things together. Uhhh... Maybe it was... Squirrel? Yes! She smelt a bit of squirrel in there, amongst other things. It was still a bit much to figure out. Amber eyes swooped across the area, till they finally caught onto a little bit of motion: in a nearby bush.

Could that be it? She crouched down, staring intently. Then, slowly but surely, it emerged - a squirrel! Now all she had to do was catch it. Couldn't be that hard, right? Rosepaw was making it look easy. [Rolled: 9] She began to creep toward it, each paw placed carefully to ensure it was making no noise - but, sure enough, its head turned to her anyway. And off it went. "Darn it!" She huffed, taking a moment to sit. She had to do this. She had to get at least one. She couldn't be bad at hunting, there was no way. The wind had been going toward the squirrel, away from her - could it be that? Was that part of this? Urgh. It was all far too confusing.

She began to walk about, hoping she'd finally find something, but all she was seeing was leaves, and grass, and flowers. No prey, no animals. She paused again, really trying to scent the air properly this time. Sniff sniff. [Rolled: 12!] Oh! Mouse! She could smell mouse! Her head swivelled, hoping she could figure out where it was coming from. It was... To her left, wasn't it? She began to stalk, following the aroma, and her eyes quickly fixated upon it. There it was, scuffling about at the base of a tree. She couldn't mess this one up. She didn't have many chances left, and soon everyone would be ready to leave. [rolled 15!] Carefully as possible, she began to edge forward. This time, she noticed that the wind was blowing toward her, and so far, the mouse hadn't noticed her. One pawstep, two pawsteps - still, it hadn't noticed. And she was right near it! She bunched her hind legs back, preparing, then took off in an explosive leap - and - yes! There it lay, right in her claws. Her first catch! She wished she could eat it, but she knew that wouldn't go down well. Whatever.

Might as well try for one more. After all, she'd clearly unlocked her true potential now. She sniffed the ground, just where the mouse had been. Perhaps there were more around? It was a strong smell, for sure, but she couldn't tell whether that meant multiple mice. She tried to follow the trail, losing it every now and again, having to circle back to where she last was - but eventually, she was there. Yep! Right behind, you guessed it, another mouse! Haha! So she was good at this (if you ignore all the pacing about and confusion and losing scent trails). Just as before, she stalked it carefully, lying in wait till it seemed like a good moment. [rolled: 8] Then, she sprung forward - but, missed her mark. It was gone in a blink. "Mmmrggghh, no fair." She grumbled. One, she supposed, would have to do for now. Hopefully Rosepaw hadn't got any more than that.

She picked her single catch back up, and returned to the group. Oh. Rosepaw had two. That didn't even make any sense! She seemed so... Ugh, she didn't even know! And - and - and - it even looked like she was showing off! She placed her one mouse on the ground, begrudgingly nudging it. "Nice catches." She had to force it out of herself. "This mouse was real hard to get, a fast one!" a big fat lie, but it made her feel better. Maybe she should get Rosepaw to teach her more about hunting. The idea was mortifying, but being bad at hunting sounded even worse. She was far too old to be bad at things now. Never mind that, actually - she'd just - she'd never been bad at anything. Ever! So why now?!

Everyone was here now. And ready to go. So, she scooped up the mouse in her jaws, and nodded at Firebloom's statement.

[yoo I'm really sorry in advance if I end up post skipping anyone to get Hornetpaw's report in tonight -- site time doesn't really line up well with my timezone, so I'm just gonna post before I go to sleep :') ]
