ShadowClan You've fill my heart with hate

Spring is here! The flowers bloom, the birds sing, the bees buzz, and... the prey rebel. First ShadowClan gets their ass kicked by a baby fox and now a pack of squirrels. Dawnstar is not amused, however, I am, and that's all that matters.

New trouble starts in ShadowClan when a hunting patrol comes home torn up, with little to nothing to give the clan besides a measly squirrel. After being attacked by a small group of crazy squirrels, they head to the medicine den to get patched up and give the squirrel to the medicine cat to dissect. The patrol is fixed up and sent off with orders to return if they feel off.

Alas, feeling off usually involves sniffles, coughs, tummy aches, not mood swings, and lack of hunger. By the time anyone realizes something is seriously wrong with these cats, they're already tearing into their clanmates. Uh-oh, seems like those squirrels had a tiny case of rabies.

DISCLAIMER/WARNING
Rabies is a often fatal viral disease transmitted through the saliva of infected animals, commonly through bites and scratches. If you sign your cat up to get rabies and they are chosen, your cat is dead. There is no cure or workaround for this. They are dying.

There are stages to go through for contracting rabies. In reality, for cats, there is usually an incubation period followed by these stages, which often take up to weeks/months to show. I'm taking away the incubation period, speeding up the stages, and only allowing biting(as in breaking the skin) to transmit the infection, because when I sat down and thought about how much cats scratch and use their claws, I found it hard to avoid ShadowClan's extinction if scratching is included.

first stage: 2–3 days with symptoms of behavioral changes (no rage or aggression, just mild flipflop of their personality, friendly cats become unfriendly, outgoing cats become shy or nervous and vice versa), reduced appetite, irritability/licking and scratching around the bitten area.
The second stage: 4 - 5 days, possible fever, possible hallucinations, lack of fear, uncharacteristic aggressiveness, increased anxiousness, irritability, and viciousness.
The final stage: 6-7 days weakness/paralysis sets in, drooling, foaming at the mouth due to larynx paralysis, and eventually death.

Your cats will only go through the first and second stages, as they will be killed before they reach the final stage. These cats will not get a tearful goodbye, or know they're dying (aside from the third group), they'll not go into a state of coherence by the second stage, nor will they have any control over their aggression. That's not how rabies works.

This is as close to a zombie apocalypse as I can get, and if the zombies ain't zombing we're going to have problems.
Group One

Out on an unofficial hunting patrol. The patrol comes across some squirrels acting strangely and extremely aggressively when approached. They're attacked, the cats managed to kill all of them, but decided against taking the prey home due to the squirrels' strange behavior. Someone thinks it's a good idea to bring one of the bodies to Sleepy to check, and they had back. Someone tells Mistlewhisker about the animal's strangeness, and they all visit the medic den for their injuries, and are sent off with a reminder to return if they feel off.

The first day is good, some aches and pain, nothing new after a fight. But by day 2-3, things start becoming weird. Dawnstar has heard of the patrol's recent skirmish with the squirrels and is not pleased. Family and friends notice the infected's strange behavior, but think nothing of it, perhaps they'll just be having an off day, or stress causes their leader to decide to spring a training event on them, where they could lose their rank and have to go through training all over again.

Day 4-5 of feeling terrible, and Dawnstar calls the clan for the event. Maybe her voice was too loud, maybe someone's breathing was annoying, perhaps someone commented about how terrible they looked, or someone suddenly looked like an enemy. But before the event can even officially start, these cats are ripping apart their clanmates; no amount of orders, threats, or yowling stops them from trying to kill their target. So Dawnstar makes a call, and their lives are forfeit.

  • Participants
    • Infected: Seeking 5 cats over 8 moons with battle training
    • Death Dealers: Dawnstar, Mistlewhisker, and three Enforcers
    • Victims: Seeking 5-8 cats over 7 moons with battle training

  • Only group to have the actual freedom to play with their behavior issues (e.g Shy cat gets testy with Dawnstar over her event announcement and makes it known, and the two nearly come to blows before so-and-so apologizes to the leader on their behalf.)

Group Two

After the disastrous training event, considering how the weirdly acting cats that were bitten by the weirdly acting prey, suddenly and uncharacteristically start attacking cats, Sleepysunrise immediately quarantines the victims of the latest attack. The first day, aside from the normal complaints of pain and displeasure of being stuck in quarantine despite not feeling sick, all goes well. The next few days involve eating different herbs and the repeated questions of "How are you feeling now?" Aside from the noticeable behavior changes, some itchiness, and lack of hunger, all is well.

Eventually, the second stage hit the newly infected cats, tired and angry of being cooped up as test subjects. The infected cats decided to sneak out of their quarantine. Sadly, Dawnstar, concerned about potentially infecting the guards, doesn't have the quarantine guarded. So sneaking out is easy when the exhausted medicine cats are slumbering. It's just a quick visit, breathe some fresh air, say hi to loved ones and dear friends, and return to quarantine.

Only the visit goes wrong. The ones they're visiting seem upset to see them. Some cats are trying to leave and report the infected to Dawnstar, others are bodily trying to shove them out of the den, and demanding they return to quarantine before they get the whole clan sick. The infected snap, yowls, and blood fill the camp, injuries occur as cats trample each other to flee from their dens away from crazy cats.

Death arrives on Dawnstar's heel as she puts down one infected and calls for the death of the rest. And one by one, bodies fill the clearing.
  • Participants
    • Infected: Already Determined.
    • Death Dealers: Dawnstar, TBD
    • Victims: Seeking 8-10 cats over 6 moons

  • NOT ALLOWED to enter the Nursery, attack kits, or leave camp.

  • Dawnstar will be killing the first infected, and after, whoever (will be assigned, probably) to kill the other infected.

Group Three

Moments after the final body hits the ground, all the bitten cats are rounded up and placed in quarantine, only this time they don't stay there long. Within the day, a consensus is drawn. The medics are unable to find a cure; they've learned everything they can from the first and second groups, diagnosed the symptoms, determined the bite is the cause, and drawn up a general time limit before the second stage hits. With no cure, and unwilling to watch more cats go through a rage-induced haze, mercy killing is the only option.

The infected are given a chance to say farewell to their loved ones before being led out of camp for the final time. They are given the choice of being fed poison or death by Dawnstar. And the clan is left picking up the pieces now that the nightmare is finally over.
  • Participants

Apply Below

  • YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CONTRACT RABIES OUTSIDE OF THIS ONE-TIME PLOT.

  • IF YOUR CAT HAS NOT BEEN CHOSEN TO BE INFECTED, YOU CAN NOT GIVE THEM RABIES. I WILL TELL STAFF TO DELETE YOUR POST/S.

  • ONLY BITE WHO YOU'VE BEEN APPROVED TO BITE.

  • You can create a new OC for all three groups if you don't wanna use the one you're attached to.

  • New OC will get less remorse/acknowledgment from Dawnstar compared to OC who have existed for over months/years

  • Feel free to try and get your cat resurrected after death if you want

  • Feel free to have your cats resent Dawnstar for whatever, I might pull them in for a potential future plot bouncing around in my head.

  • NO KITS ALLOWED TO BE BITTEN

  • You may pick who you'd like your cat to bite, but your choice is not guaranteed, as I'm sorting everyone. The same goes with executors. If you don't have anyone in mind, leave it blank in the form.

  • The number of victims/infected doesn't mean there will be that many. It simply shows how many I could see getting infected during the scenario. It doesn't mean I'll choose that exact number of cats for that group.
