rookfire gave shadowpaw a side eye that said more than words could. he wasnt here to play, and certainly did not appreciate the nickname. "as long as you dont die and bring back prey i dont care what you do" he replied, gruff. before urging the cat forward. he had things to do after all.
shadowpaw was weird but the enforcer still eyed her with suspicious at the choice of tone before turning his attention to hunting.

alright lets see. still keen on impressing with his performance, to prove his worth, rookfire had a good bit in front of him for this hunt. some decently sized pieces of prey and something smaller, shine with quality and quantity. clean kills.
with his attention now divided between his surroundings, shadowpaw and tracking down prey he lowered himself into a hunters crouch and remained still for a moment. once he picked up on his first piece of prey he moved quickly, large paws avoiding sticks and crunchy leaves with practiced ease.

[ roll 8x- 18, 14, 13, 7, 10, 9, 16, 11 | 6x catch, 2x miss - 3 of those for the next post (1x miss, 4x catch for this)]

the hunt didnt start off ideal as the squirrel he had spotted first scurried up a tree, startled by a mouse speeding through the sparse dry leaves. beggars cant be choosers, so he zero-ed in on the mouse instead. next up, right in the open field next to the old waterbarn he was able to snag a rabbit feasting on the weeds growing out of the cracked and charred stone.

before returning to the clearing, rookfire slid down the small drop seperating him from the water, despositing his prey on a flat rock before approaching the water. he'd never taken a close look at the animals residing within, there had never been a reason to anyway but he was met with fish of all shapes and (though muted) colours. after hopping onto a rock on the center of the stream, he sat up on his hind legs and watched for a while.
it would probably look ridiculous from afar but he was waiting for one of the larger fish to swim past him before reaching into the water, claws pierced slippery skin and he pulled a greenish yellow one out of the water. once it was flopping on the stone and rookfire got another good grip on it, he slit its throat. as blood mixed with water on the damp rock, he could see the deep orange stomach of the fish easier.

while he had little to no recollection of ever properly fishing in riverclan, rook was certain he had seen one of those before.

without losing much more time he got to watching again and not much later, splashed a new wave of water onto the rock with the force of him grasping for the fish. the one he pulled out of the water was long and brown with pale speckles and a grey underside. satisfied with his little fishing adventure, he gathered up his fish and returned to land.

rookfire just returned to the clearing to drop off his prey when shadowpaw opened her maw. tragic news, more yapping. "no, go ahead though." he replied sharply with a swish of his tail, eyes not once moving from the hole he had started digging into the tightly packed soil.

"Of course I know how much to catch silly...!" Shadowpaw let out in a purr and a soft wave of her tail. Always so sharp the other cats of her clan was but she didn't mind it at all, she started to come to the theory that they were just hiding their little sparkle inside. Friendship wasn't impossible. "Maybe we can find some pretty things to keep once were done and walking back!" She jumped with joy a few times, before putting on her game face.

"Alright, let's hunt..." She said with a silly devious voice. Even work could be fun. Though she was much more used to hunting frogs mostly since it was a blast getting all muddy, she had caught other prey items. She hadn't hunt around this part of the clan before so she wasn't sure what to expect around here, but given the relative dryness as compared to the swamps frogs were off the table.

Shadowpaw could be the sillies cat in the world but she became deadly serious when it was time to hunt. Without thinking on it her stealth vanished on Rookfire, but kept in mind at least not to get far from them. Rats never had a chance against this huntress. Over the course of the hunt she was able to get four rats and held them by their tails just barely. Maybe she caught too many, they were heavy!!

"Ok...!" She said coming into the open. "I got them, Rookfire would you like to spot a feather with me?"

In truth, Mudslide was only half paying attention to what Rookfire said or whatever mews tumbled out of Shadowpaw's throat, she was too busy watching a cicada twitch its wings in a tree, dark brown with hues of orange. Her pale eyes gravitated towards the bug, the faintest lines of interest crossing her expression.

Once the familiar buzz of cats conversing left marbled ears, Mudslide made a move, not exactly addressing Wildstorm. She'd follow if she wanted to, but Mudslide didn't really care. Wildstorm wasn't a kit, and this place wasn't as dangerous now. Unless, something had just decided to show back up to terrorize this patrol specifically. What fun. Of course.

Keeping her tail high (mud, mud, mud, she hated mud), she stalked along the ruins, eyes narrowed until a robin grazed her vision. Unsheathing her claws, she sprung for it, icy talons aiming for the wings.

[mudslide rolled a 20! catch successful!]

The bird certainly didn't put up much a fight. It took barely a squabble to get it to stop struggling. Not that Mudslide was complaining of course.

[+1 robin]

Oh, another one? What was it with this place and... Well robins? Mudslide expected the occasional mouse, but she quickly realized owls hunted rodents. After occupying the ruins for so long they must've chased out a good amount of the rodents here. If her logic served her well.... It didn't. Anyways, robin. Kill, kill, shoo.

She stalked quietly, bloodied claws glinting in silent warning. She wriggled her haunches before she sprung, eyes unblinking.

[mudslide rolled a 6! fumble...]

Claws missed just short of red feathers, the bird shooting up in alarm. Mudslide simply watched as the bird left and gave herself a swift shake. Nothing worth lingering on, there had to be more here. And more there was. A rabbit, fluffy faced and naieve. In a way, she envied the creatures. Such brown and streaked pelts, they blended into the forest like a second shadow. But not Mudslide.

[mudslide rolled an 11! catch successful!]

[+1 rabbit]

In search of one extra catch, Mudslide wandered. Truly? She was trying to get away from the noise of others, think about the cicada, wonder if maybe Roachflare would like one. At the thought of giving her friend a gift, it was made top priority. However, she had to force herself to tuck it into the warm corners of her mind. She'd get them something. Soon.

Thankfully, a starling fluttered into her view, quickly grooming itself, breathing rapidly. Mudslide steadied her gaze she gnashed her teeth.

[mudslide rolled a 16! catch successful!]

[+1 starling]

Now bug. She'd have to get something for bug. Nosing around in the quiet parts of the forest, she thought of them, pushing her marbled paws to the earth as if the world ever cared to share its secrets. Her white masked muzzle stopped at a plant, large wings brushing up against skin.

Mudslide looked up. A moth. Fuzzy, weirdly enough, and brown tailed. The warrior quietly took the bugs life, a quick and earnest death. She tucked the moth into the fur on her tail. She'd would've given them the cicada, but Mudslide was never good at climbing.

[+1 brown tail moth]

Hopefully he wouldn't mind.
