26 Moons - WindClan Medicine Cat

Having felt confident on this patrol after Fernpaw's obvious display of forethought, Lightningstorm had left the pair to their own devices, deciding to head to the fresh kill pile for a meal. She hadn't eaten all day, after all, and she didn't need more reasons to have Crowtooth call her a half starved rat. Happily picking a vole, she got to eating, but not without noticing that Warmsun seemed to... have relegaded his apprentice to a different warrior? Either that, or Fernpaw had sought out a different warrior to go complete his patrol with altogether. Regardless of which was the case, she couldn't help but frown. Warmsun was the mentor. Fernpaw should be given an example of how to behave and be responsible, not be the example. She'd have to talk to the warrior when he came back with the herbs... assuming he did.

The sun had all but set by the time Fernpaw and Lightnight got back, cobwebs in both their maws. Lapis hues narrowed momentarily, not because of Fernpaw's appearance - if anything, the apprentice and accompanying warrior had exceeded expectations - but because of the feline that was missing. Heading out alone was still forbidden, and seeing as how Fernpaw had been found needing to find another companion to head on out while his mentor sat on his arse, the medicine cat was less than impressed with the older tom's actions. Taking a deep breath, the lithe calico stood, padding towards the approaching pair as she waved a greeting with her tail. Quietly, she listened to Fernpaw's explanation, her jaw setting with conviction at the sight of him. No apprentice should have to make excuses for their mentor, and this was the second failure in a single day for Warmsun. She had given him an easy chance out, and he had failed rather spectacularly.

"I see. Well, I'll be having a talk to Twilightstar about finding you an actual, decent mentor in the future, Fernpaw. Your skills are being wasted on Warmsun, from what he's shown here today. I know timid, quiet cats who go far and beyond expectations for their own apprentices. You shouldn't be having to take punishments on his behalf during your training," Lightningstorm stated with an encouraging voice, only her lashing tail showing her annoyance towards Fernpaw's mentor.

Turning towards Lightnight, the medicine cat's features softened a bit as she nodded politely at the warrior. He hadn't had a need to go out of his way to fix Warmsun's lack of action, and yet he did. She always appreciated cats like that. While she never did know how to receive words of gratitude or compliments, growing uncomfortable at the rare, once in a blue moon positive remarks she did get, the she-cat was quick to give her own in turn. She would rather cats not get as used to being used as she was, to the point of uncertainty at praise due to a lack of hearing it. If you did good, you bloody well deserved to hear it.

"Thanks for the help, Lightnight. You both get out of the cold and get some rest. You've earned it," she mewed amicably, offering Fernpaw a grin of encouragement in an attempt to let him know that he was well off the hook - it was clear what the problem had been, after all - before waving them away, her gaze only growing sterner when they had left. Warmsun should be happy that newleaf was just around the corner... and he would be able to avoid the twolegs for a whole moon. The outskirts would be his home for a while.
