Re: ShadowClan Medicine Cat's Den
Sleepysunrise
[ 14 moons | She / Her | Shc Medicine Cat | Shadow Fiend ]
So these were the cats she had to work with. They were all so painfully... Dull? Boring? Lacking? She couldn't place the word. Sleepysunrise was used to being surrounded those who could never remain quiet and behave, it was exhausting. But now that she was met with cats as quiet as she was, she found herself getting just as exhausted from their presence, and all the irritated. They weren't loud enough to drown out the sounds.
"Unless the three of you think I'm psychic... I'm going to need their application method, and appearance."
Her eyes were trained on the floor as she spoke, dragging over the base of their paws before sliding up their sides and landing on Rockjaw's namesake.
"Or that happened for nothing."
She whispered, eyes glued to his jaw for several long seconds as if she was trying to see through his flesh what the bone looked like. She wondered if she could dislodge his jaw and attach it back in the correct place if only he was a skeleton and not a living cat.
After a long silence, the sometimes twitchy cat looked aside a pressed her lips together. She shook a paw at random as if dismissing a thought, before disappearing into the herb storage and emerging with a few herbs.
"Boneset. The roots of this plant treat early stages of greencough and whitecough. You eat it."
Whatever that was, no one ever bothered explaining that sickness to her.
"Broom. Prevents infections, promotes healing and helps mending broken bones. It's chewed up and applied over the wound.
Burdock, or more like Burdock root. The root treats rat bites, sores and burns, encourages healing and keeps away infection. It numbs anything it touches, so rinse your mouth after usage. You chew it to a pulp and apply it over the wound.
Chervil; the leaves prevent infection, and the juices are dripped into eyes against irritation. The roots are eaten against nausea and are safe for kittings... Oh. The roots prevent infection too. A bit stronger than the leaves, even. You chew and apply it, as always.
Chickweed treats greencough. You eat it.
Comfrey can be used for broken bones and burns, whether it is the roots or leaves, as well as regular wounds, joint and muscle pain, inflammation."
Whatever that last part was again, her brow furrowed at the mention of inflammation. She let a long pause sit, if they knew what inflammation was they better speak up now.
"You chew and apply it to the wound."
That was all for the herbs they had examples of. She set the exemplified herbs back, and soon returned empty-pawed, continuing with her explanation.
"Borage. It has a lanky stem, and purple five-pointed flowers, and soft leaves. Soothes bellyache, brings down fevers, aids in milk production. It's eaten.
Brighteye is a collection of little pink flowers, dome-shaped. It has a dark centre and smooth leaves. You ground it up with lovage or eat it alone, it eases coughs.
Horsetail is dark green. It has a thick stem, and bristled leaves. It stops bleeding and prevents infection, you apply it over the wound."
She paused. Oh.
"For poppies... Queens and kits get no more than one. You don't give queens any during kitting. Apprentices and small warriors get two. Otherwise up to three."
That's how it is done. These kids needed a lesson in how to share information. Sleepysunrise looked aside, not wanting to meet their gazes, she didn't like being observed like this. It made her feel... Weird. Change the subject.
"Nightshiver will show us what to do during kittings..."
Her voice had gotten quieter than before. She just wanted them to get to their explanations already, eyes flitting to their paws. She didn't like that they were all in here.
