Owlthroat let a grin peek at the corners of his lips at Newtbelly’s retort. Just about the only cat, bar Tuftedtusk who he’d let tease like that. In his eyes Newtbelly had earned that right, just as much as anyone could.

”It’s this cold”, Owlthroat murmured. ”Sleep isn’t the same in Leafbare, but I’ll make use of it and get something done.” A bare-faced lie, he’d likely spend the day lounging trying to gather some warmth in the nest. Then maybe later stroll out and attempt to hunt something. The fresh kill pile was looking sparse this time around.

”Anything planned? Owlthroat quizzed Newtbelly, his head tipping to one side. Yellow eyes slitted with curiosity. It’d been a while since the two caught up. He’d have to ask about his daughter, Talonpaw. Check how she was doing, if she was giving Newtbelly much grief. But he couldn’t imagine so, she was confident and capable. She’d be a warrior in no time.

He supposed the tom had never been fond of the cold. Though, he reckoned he looked awfully cosy in his nest. Never mind that -

"Probably training one of the three delights," he responded, letting out a small laugh. "I joke, but they are all good apprentices." His two newest apprentices - he hadn't been training them for long. As individuals, he could already see their potential. Bold, ambitious cats, even at their young age. However, they weren't the type you wanted to put together. His longest standing, Stempaw, was pretty inoffensive. He was doing very well, actually. He wondered if he would've had the same problem, if he'd trained him alongside Silentpaw? "Talonpaw and Venompaw seem to be making quick enemies of each other. Great individually, but they're butting heads." He yawned, "hopefully time'll sort that one out."

Say - Owlthroat and Tuftedtusk seemed close, maybe he'd know something about the inkling he'd had. "You know, Talonpaw looks awfully like Tuftedtusk, are the two related?" Maybe he should start joining in on the clan's small talk - it seemed things like this passed him by. Never mind though, he was sure he could peck Owlthroat's head about it.
