Re: We're Off to See the Borders! [ RC App Training ]
Event [#event]Turnout was good, thankfully. Fadingstar hadn't named new warriors since the 3v1, and he was getting eager to do so again.
More than three warriors showed up to help out, which meant he'd have to pick. "Adderstrike, Foxleap, and Redmire, you can come with us." Adderstrike had proven herself to be a highly reliable warrior, Foxleap he wanted to get a better feel for, and Redmire... well, he wasn't too fond of her, but he figured he ought to give her a chance to participate in the Clan like any other warrior. At least she was trying, unlike those in their Clan that sat on their cans all day.
With the warriors chosen, the leader beckoned everyone to follow him out of camp. As they began to walk through the territory, he spoke. "I want everyone to stick close together while we're out at the borders. I don't trust any of the Clans as far as I can throw them. Given the way they tore into our children during the 3v1, I wouldn't put it past any of them to attack a patrol of apprentices.
"That said, as long as you stick together and keep close to myself and the warriors, you'll be fine. The borders are nothing to be afraid of, only cautious of. It's very important that we keep them regularly marked, otherwise it's an invitation for the other Clans to start taking our territory."
He decided to head for ShadowClan's border first. Best to get the worst one out of the way. He couldn't help but scowl as their scent hit him, memories of what they'd done to his Clanmates flooding his mind. One day, he'd get them under his claws and remind them why it was a terrible idea to mess with RiverClan's children.
By the time he glanced back at everyone else, his scowl had disappeared and a look of neutrality had replaced it. If he wanted his cats to avoid personal fantasies of vengeance, he had to try to keep his own to himself.
"This is ShadowClan. Their scent is earthy, and they smell of pine and swamp. Quite the offensive smell, if you ask me. ShadowClan are the most ruthless and immoral of the Clans, although ThunderClan and WindClan aren't too far behind as far as morality goes these days. ShadowClan cats will readily kill kids and maim others, no matter whether they have anything resembling justification or not. Whenever you train for battle, use that as motivation. The better of a fighter you are, the safer you'll be in a fight against one of them."
He paused to leave a single scent marker behind on a fallen tree, making sure the apprentices could see him. "When you're on a border patrol, leave scent markers just like I did there. You don't need to go crazy; a simple scent marker is sufficient. Leave markers on objects, like trees, logs, and rocks. On top of that, when you're on a border patrol your job is to look out for anything unusual or any threats to RiverClan's safety, like trespassing, for example. Any questions so far?"
