Too much was happening around him. Shouting, arguing. Most of it blurred and blended together, thankfully for Wingpaw's sake. He was barely managing to steady himself, resisting the nearly overwhelming urge to bolt. He could feel eyes on him, coming from above, and slowly he lifted his head to meet Birdsnow's gaze. There was pity in there and it made him feel... sad. Weak. He didn't want to be pitied.

But it wasn't until he heard Pristy's voice that he felt reality start to come back to him. Still panting he glanced over at her, trying to mask the terror he felt. "She's gone, Pristy." Now it felt final. Wing had spoken it out loud, and now it felt more true than it had before. First dad, then Rushwater, now his aunt... it wasn't fair...

He was acutely aware of Birdsnow speaking, and if he hadn't been so wrapped up in his own aching heart he would've felt the burst of admiration for how she took control. But his gaze was still focused on his best friend - until some warrior thought they could tell either of them what to do. A sharp gaze cut to Birchbranch as Wingpaw did his best to control his panting. "Go shove your nose elsewhere before I claw it off," he snapped with a lash of his tail. If that warrior thought he was going anywhere now, she was mistaken. He couldn't bold, he couldn't go back to the apprentice's den, as much as he craved the dark and desolate feeling it often provided. No, he had to be strong. He was going to be leader of this Clan one day, dammit; no more acting like a kit.

With a grunt the caliby pulled himself into a more seated position, a low growl erupting from him as he forced himself to raise his head. After another scathing glare was sent Birchwhatever's way, Wing let himself scoot closer to his best friend while also taking a paw and holding Honeypaw close to him. He would be alright, so long as he had his brother and Pristy by his side. Nothing was ever going to happen to them - nothng.

Lost. No matter how many times she said it, she always felt lost. "I'm so sorry." Was all that came out finally. She'd said it so many times before, and yet, nothing had changed for Wingpaw. Everyone kept slowly disappearing... and Pristinepaw... she couldn't believe that just a few minutes ago she'd been selfishly thinking of telling him they couldn't be friends anymore, because of what her mother had said. But he was hurting. Hurting so, so much, and she decided she'd tell him later. Or she'd take the coward's way out and avoid him if it came to it.

Pristinepaw didn't want to lose his friendship - just the thought felt like a hole tearing in her chest and stealing all the warmth inside her. Too many choices to make, too little decisions made. So instead, she focused on the present, cringing back with hurt and surprise at Wingpaw's sudden harsh words until she realized they hadn't been aimed towards her. Glancing over her shoulder at Birchbranch, the young apprentice tried to offer the warrior an apologetic look before turning back to Wingpaw.

"I'm not going anywhere." She whispered softly as she attempted to wrap her front limbs around Wingpaw's frame,
trying to snuggle into his side, to steal his warmth and keep it to herself. Keep it with her forever.

Because
regardless of her whispered promise, Pristinepaw couldn't help but feel that she'd just told the biggest - and first - lie of her life.

[ @Shellwhisker - Brief Birchbranch Mention ]
