Salteye hits the ground. Hard. The pain in his leg is quickly overshadowed by the gaping wound in his throat. His breath whistles through the hole as he stares at the canopy above.

Damn…. squirrels…..

Then the burning fades, replaced soon by numbness.

But Salteye refuses to close his eyes for the last time.

Despite what he thinks, he is merely feigning his anger.

The last thing Salteye was, was scared.
