Curlypaw kneaded the ground beneath his paws, anxiety sparking his pelt. Camp was supposed to be a safe place, where he could trust everybody (at least on a surface level). This was supposed to be a place where he could feel at home, where the threats of the outside world couldn't harm him.

Yet, camp was quickly becoming another place on his list of locations that made him feel uneasy. After finding out about the mysterious deaths that had occurred, Curlypaw had found himself unable to shake the nervousness that clung to him like a kit to its parent.

Was Cowtuft really responsible, somehow, for those cats' deaths? It seemed very strange to the apprentice. He didn't know Cowtuft very well, but weren't medicine cats supposed to be good? Why would a medicine cat ever do something that would hurt or kill one of their Clanmates?

Curlypaw didn't like how the possibility of Cowtuft being a murderer made him feel. His claws began scoring into the dirt beneath him. If he couldn't trust the medicine cat, who could he trust? Was Lavenderhaze trustworthy? What about Fallownose and Twilightstar? Had he misjudged them, too? Or was he just overreacting, worrying about something that wasn't even a real threat?
