Default Re: Downpour [RiverClan Flood Event]

Quote:

Almost at once, Larkwing caught sight of a young apprentice, newly named by the size of him, eye the sudden flood and get immediately swept away by the current that was rapidly coming her way as well. There wasn't any time to think, nor was there any time to process just how dangerous what she was about to do was, but she had made up her mind that she was going to rescue this cat. As the tidal wave of flood water came barreling in her direction, Larkwing deliberately dived right into it.

She wasn't the strongest swimmer in the clan, in fact, she wasn't really the strongest anything in the clan, but if she could even try and help, well, maybe she'd feel good about that, and maybe the clan would praise her, and, maybe... maybe there wouldn't be too many needless deaths.

The current was strong and the water was cold as she dove in, swallowing a small mouthful and trying not to choke. Bobbing to the surface, kicking her feet and using her tail to stay afloat, Larkwing, pushed her way through the current and to the apprentice.

"Hey!" she called, voice strained with the effort as she inched closer, the apprentice seeming to only be swept farther and farther away, "I'm almost there, hold on!" And she dove back under, hoping to have an easier time swimming below the surface than above. In a way, it was easier, and Larkwing caught up faster than she would have if she had stayed above the water. Bobbing up to the surface once more, she coughed and sputtered as she tried to pull the scared apprentice towards her, "c'mon! Let's get out of here!" She spoke, and took the small cat into her mouth by the scruff of his neck, getting another mouthful of water in the process, and began to fight her way to high ground where they would be safe for the time being, trying to keep the small body above the water as best as she could.

another shakey gasp as he took in some pathetic gasp for air, half filling his cheeks just as he bobbed under once again.

sticks and pebbles and other camp-building materials swirled in the water around splinterpaw, like little missiles in the water. floods weren't always dangerous just because of the water, but everything it carried with it.

before he could attempt to paddle up again, his rescue arrived! someone had heard his little mews and came to his rescue. who?? he didn't care. as long as It wasn't a windclan cat.

he was grabbed by larkwing, hauled out the water with a strangled squeal as water came pouring out his mouth. his throat burnt and his lungs were tight, breathing hard as he took quick, short, brearthes.

he scrambled close to the bigger cat, aiming to cling to Larkwing body. although, even in the middle of drowning, splinterpaw was conscious of himself and getting in the way of... his own rescue? he was self-aware that he was taking up someone else's time, oh god. Was he being a nuance? maybe he shouldn't just let himself sink away... blub blub blub. larkwing would hate him for this, obviously

"tha-thank you, thank you," his words came coughed out, bringing up a mouthful of water as he took another hard gulp of air. his body was already lacking the energy, and having the stamina of a kit did not help at all.

you couldn't help with his soaking, shivery form that tears were pouring out of his dichromic eyes, large droplets of tears falling from wide blue-amber eyes.

hopefully, the she would dump him somewhere out of the way, and he could curl up and die not from the lungs filled with water but from the pure anxiety of having to be in this situation to begin with,
