Oh, everything was rapidly falling down. Riverclan was collapsing.
Mintpool watched silently with unblinking expression as Pikestar announced his resignment, though inside she felt a pang of horror at the leader's words. Even a leader made mistakes. And even though this was a very relevant one that affected the whole clan... didn't that make Pikestar a better leader now? Weren't all these losses of some use to the clan, to his future? This could not end like this. But... Pikestar had made his decision.
Now the clan had to vote.
She thought for a moment about his former mentor. She had a feeling Slatestripe would not be happy about it, but the dark striped tomcat hadn't been too available recently so Mintpool hadn't found the chance to ask him. She glanced around now, wondering where he was.
But the choice that awaited her was hers, and hers alone.
Cats around them shrieked and yowled - Pikestar had lost control of the meeting since the first moment, but Mintpool wasn't surprised about it. She still felt the soreness in her body and a pulsing pain in her neck and leg, where one of the dogs had hit her.
Was it really how Riverclan was going to lose his leader?
Mintpool quietly made her way slowly, calmly among the agirated cats to take seat in the left part of the clearing.
I have faith in Gingerfrost. And she didn't want to put young Stonepaw in such a difficult position. No, Riverclan could still keep together if the faith in their high ranks could be regained.
Deep down, Mintpool new Gingerfrost would have a lot to deal with as soon as he became leader. Because he will, won't he?
The white siamese narrowed her eyes at the crowd of cats still fighting with each other, her blue gaze trying to hide the concern that was tightening her chest as the meeting went on.
...What will become of Riverclan?
