It took a few extra moments for Autumnpaw to find her way to Slatestripe, but once she did the mentor wasted no time in getting their training started. It wouldn't be too much longer before the pond would freeze over for the season, making it impossible to fish in. It was best she learned to fish now, when the fish were still out and about.

He nodded toward the water. "First thing's first. When fishing, you want to make sure that your shadow isn't being cast over the water. It'll alert the fish to your presence and scare them away." He looked up at the sky. "See how the sun is across from us right now? That means our shadows are being cast behind us, away from the water."

Slatestripe looked back down at the pond. "In addition, you want to remain as still as possible until you're ready to strike out at a fish. Fish are better at sensing movement than you might think. If you give them any indication that they might be in danger, they'll be gone before you can blink."
