Re: The Dark Hunger{ShC EVENT}
Larkpaw

[ This was not meant to be so long. Apologies for that in advance. :,) I put Deadsight in red, Dawnstar's name in purple, and Darkpaw's in green so it'd be easier to see where I mentioned them ]
--------------------- The apprentice's tail swished with mild irritation as the elder on her right completely ignored her question. Or maybe he was attempting to irk her by not responding. Either way, she had undoubtedly given him enough time to speak up, but he'd not said anything thus far. His loss, not hers. Although Larkpaw would never show her elders blatant disrespect, sometimes cats got on her nerves. Especially those who assumed they were above her without having valid reasoning.
A movement at the corner of her vision caught Larkpaw's attention, and her fiery amber gaze shifted subtly to Elmshadow as the medicine cat approached, expression betraying his irritation at the state ShadowClan was in. She watched passively as Elmshadow ducked down to check Fallenpaw's pulse, and rose again after confirming the same that she had. That Fallenpaw was dead. With barely a few words to her and the elder (whatever his name was), ShadowClan's medicine cat turned around and swiftly walked off, being joined by Ivysnake not too long after. In truth, Lark didn't blame him for his seemingly cold actions. He probably had more important things to attend to. Living cats instead of dead ones.
Stewing over these thoughts as she stared blankly at Fallenpaw's corpse, Lark barely noticed the ongoings of camp around her when suddenly, a familiar, friendly voice cut through her thoughts. Her head jerked up, gaze fastening on Darkpaw with mild horrification when he asked if she'd seen... Fallenpaw..? Her mouth stayed glued shut, and all Lark could do was stare at her denmate like a fool when he started telling Fallenpaw's deceased body to wake up. A thought struck her suddenly, seeing them side by side, and Larkpaw's face drained of the little color it'd had left. 'Sweet mother of pearl.' Darkpaw and Fallenpaw were siblings??? Larkpaw hadn't even known the two were friends, much less siblings. Watching now, as Darkpaw attempted to revive his sister from the clutches of death, Larkpaw couldn't help but let worry for the poor tom inch into her mind. Her ears flattened ever-so-slightly upon witnessing Darkpaw's grief first-hand. The she-cat sat in silence, gaze glued to the ground as Darkpaw went on infront of her, voice pleading. She'd only just decided to somehow offer Darkpaw her consolation when his voice turned solemn and formal, losing the beseeching note it had retained earlier.
"I'm sorry." Was all she could say, voice barely above a whisper as she stepped up beside him. Her mind cast around for anything more to say to soothe her denmate and bring back the carefree air she'd witnessed before, at the Gathering. But alas, Lark was not very skilled at expressing her emotions, and instead found herself with her maw glued firmly shut, no further words of consolation being ommited. Besides, she was not even sure if Darkpaw would appreciate her concern, or if he would just lash out at her. One meager conversation at a Gathering didn't mean they were fast friends, even if Larkpaw had felt a small amount of kinship towards her denmate.
Yet again, another voice (more like a growl that practically shook the ground) broke through Larkpaw's brooding thoughts, and the apprentice's gaze shot up to meet the familiar sound. Ah, Dawnstar. A bit dazed, Lark could only silently nod for a moment as the leader spoke to her, until she realized what was being asked ... After a few moments of staring expectantly at Deadsight for him to answer the leader first, Lark turned back to her leader. Nevermind, if the elder didn't want to speak, Lark certainly wouldn't wait any longer for him to do so. "We can do it." She affirmed with a blink, and then frowned. Wait no, she was not going to talk for the elder. "I mean, I can do it. Not sure about.. Deadsight. I can find someone else if Deadsight would not like to go." She offered sagely, casting a sidelong glance in Deadsight's direction. Finally she knew the elder's name. Lark should really get around to hunting down every single Clanmate and matching names to faces.
Her attention shifted the moments Dawnstar's did, and Lark felt her limbs stiffening as the leader fixed her denmate with an irritated, cold stare. Skies above, Lark could guess what was about to go down. The slim apprentice was so prepared for the bout of scolding that she didn't even need to flinch at the harshness in each and every single one of Dawnstar's words. Although an emotion that suspiciously felt like pity (or was it concern? she couldn't tell) crept into Lark's mind as she regarded Darkpaw. Larkpaw would not wish death of a family member on her worst enemy ... Okay that was partially a lie. Unless that cat was her mother, then she'd be wishing death upon her self. Jolting back into reality, amber hues surveyed the scene in front of her. For a few moments, Lark felt torn between thinking of Dawnstar as right, or taking Darkpaw's side. In the end, because Lark was shamefully too selfish to step forward and ruin her own reputation in the eyes of her leader, she let her gaze drift to the ground and said nothing, letting Darkpaw take the verbal lashing. All she could do now was dearly hoped that the other apprentice would be smart about it and not say anything drastic.
