Birdecho hadn't slept all night. She knew that with the morning would likely come an apprentice seeking training, but when the sun rose and no one came to bother her, the young warrior slunk to the apprentice's den and poked her head in. "Hey, Pawsters," she addressed her apprentice, not caring if anyone else woke up. "Training time, yeah? Whaddya say?" Her amber eyes glinted before she slid out of the den and waited for Twilightpaw's arrival. Now she had to decide where to start... Ideally she'd teach the kid tree climbing and hunting but other than that she didn't really care. Battle was lame, at least in her opinion. When Twilightpaw emerged, Birdecho wasted no time speeding out of camp, expecting the apprentice to follow. Her tiny legs were quick over the ShadowClan territory, though she slowed a bit when she remembered that this was likely Twilightpaw's first time in the territory. "Er," she began awkwardly, "so uh, what do you want to learn, kid?

Ah, right as she was about to get up. Perfect timing. The young molly's ear flicks in acknowledgement, stretching and stepping carefully over her siblings' nests, which are clustered next to her's. She soon catches up to her mentor with long strides, blinking away the bleariness from her eyes as she studies the older cat, waiting for her to do whatever mentors do. Such as training. That would be nice. When she does speak to her, she's both mildly disappointed and a bit excited to be given the choice. Birdecho doesn't seem like the teaching type really, but she still has hope in her abilities, as fleeting as that hope is. She honestly doesn't know what to expect from the molly. But alas, she gets to train now, so she'll take whatever optimism she can get.
"Wouldn't mind staring with huntin'," She says thoughtfully, dropping down into a crouch without any needed instruction.

Her form isn't bad, low to the ground, but her paws are spread farther out than necessary. Her tail is brushing the grass aswell. She glances up at her mentor, waiting to receive any critiques with perked ears.

Hunting was good, she enjoyed hunting. Birdecho watched with a blank, slightly blithe expression on her face as Twilightpaw dropped into a crouch. It wasn't bad, but she couldn't keep the grimace off her maw. Not that she would have wanted to anyway. "Yeah, it ain't bad, but let me show you how it's really done, kid." Birdecho dropped into her own, pointedly shuffling her paws closer in to her body, and lifting her tail up so it was pin-straight behind her. "Tuck your paws in a bit--yeah like that, and your tail--yep, awesome. There ya go." Birdecho straightened, walking around Twilightpaw and pushing on her flank a bit to see if she toppled over. When she didn't, Birdecho harumphed in approval.
"Hunting's pretty easy. Consider yourself lucky that you're learning now instead of leafbare." She chuckled, greatly amused at her own comment and not really caring if Twilightpaw also found it funny. "You're gonna open your mouth and scent for prey, like this--" she opened her jaw and took several short, quick breaths to allow the scents of the forest to wash over her glands. "Alright, your turn. Whatcha smell?"

The apprentice's keen gaze catches the expression on her mentor's maw without trouble, making her slightly self-conscious as she studies her form, trying to correct it before she has to be told to. However when Birdecho starts speaking, demonstrating her own flawless technique, she listens and studies her body position intently. She quickly locates what she's done wrong and rectifies the flaws. At the older cat's subtle approval, she can feel a small smile tugging at her lips. The smokey, thick-furred cat swiftly refocuses when another instruction meets her ears however, her jaws parting as directed. A multitude of scents flood her senses more prominently, leading her tail to twitch slightly as she adjusts- trying to pick out the different scents.
"Hmm..." She hums thoughtfully, thinking a brief moment more and taking a few short intakes of breath through her mouth before responding, "I smell a rodent, perhaps a mouse? Nah, a shrew. Earth, morning dew, there's a faint scent o' Shadowclan cats, maybe a patrol that wen' out?"
She glances at Birdecho, awaiting her next instruction quietly.

Birdecho's ever-present manic glint in her eyes bloomed hotter, an approving grin on her maw as Twilightpaw listed out several scents. "Practically a master already, kid. Great, you got your scent picked out. Now what do you do to get at it? Use that excellent crouch of yours and stalk it. Check it--" Bridecho dropped into her crouch again, taking long, slow strides to demonstrate the care with which she put her paws to the ground. "You're gonna keep to clear ground to avoid stepping on sticks and crunchy leaves--fun in leaf fall, not fun in hunting, capisce? Another thing to keep in mind is where the wind is blowing. Long story short, kid, you want the wind blowing against your face. Keeps the prey scent towards you, and your scent away from the prey."
She let Twilightpaw practice a bit before chirping to get their attention. "Not bad, kid, not bad. You ready to try somethin' real?" The glint in her eyes turned mischievous. "Go get that shrew."

A muted expression resembling something like excitement flashes across her face at her mentor's appraisal, an ear flicking in acknowledgement that she understands her directive. The grey-ticked molly opens her maw again to pick out the scent of the shrew, holding herself low to the ground as she turns in the direction of the small animal, keen gaze tracking its figure with ease as it nibbles on a nut near the base of a tree. A subtle breeze dances through her fur, brushing it backward. Good, it's blowing toward her. She waits a few moments for the shrew to scurry out into the open a bit more before gradually starting to creep forward.

Her paws are silent with each purposeful step, the sound of her fur brushing over the grass barely audible as it blends with the rustling of the trees. Once upon the shrew, she swiftly snatches it up by the throat and a snapping sound can be heard. With that, she pads back over to her mentor and drops the chubby creature at her feet, sitting down neatly next to it.

"Well well well look at you, we got a prodigy over here!" Birdecho crowed when her apprentice--yeah that's right, this rat was her apprentice--dropped a fat shrew at her paws. "Hell yeah! You wanna try a frog? Those freaks are SO hard to catch like you'd think something with that much slime wouldn't be able to move so fast but damn." Birdecho glanced in the direction of the mire. "Betcha can't find a frog faster than me. Ready set go!" Birdecho shot off toward the mire, Twilightpaw hopefully behind her.
[Next post can be Twilight trying for a frog and then wrapping up if you like B)]
