How Do You OC?

I only want to have one main for now, as I can't be terribly active. However I'm having trouble deciding what kind of cat I want her to be!

The main things are: What clan? What will she look like? What will she act like?

I'll also need to figure out relationships, such as backstory, family, etc but that isn't as important yet.

So, the point of this thread: how do you guys decide what your kits are going to be like? You can say anything you want, I'm just interested to know what different processes people have! All are welcome! Doesn't have to be anything super special or crazy :-) :heartbounce:

Edit: Names too! There's way too many good or pretty namems, I can't decide! :sob:

i never consciously think in-depth about it, i just kind of have ideas come to me over time. often they're inspired by songs, pretty tumblr post writings, movies, or other media! if you're still struggling, you can always spin a wheel or something, but i like to let existing art give me inspiration.

edit: in terms of names, i rly just pick whatever sounds good to me :sob: scroll through the names list and find a combo that scratches an itch in my brain

Mine are inspired by uh... *blanking*
Well, I'll just go off of my main. Goldfish was inspired by my dog (Hehe) and my very own goldfish, not to mention the name! I took an old OC named Perchbubble and revamped his personality. Blazesong was inspired solely by her name, which I loved (Hence the username Blaze_Songs239) a lot. The design came off the idea of a cat with half their face white. I thought it was a pretty idea, and let my imagination go wild!!

I either base them off songs or myself in a way (For example, thingkit could have my Gullibility and empathy. and thing2kit could have my looks made into cat). Or just base them off human characters I make in my tiny brain like years ago.

(Names? I just use a random warrior name wheel or generator.)

Re: How Do You OC?

i generally have an idea floating around my head somewhere, maybe it starts with a certain character flaw/personality trait or even just a name. a big thing for me is putting some of my own traits into my characters, makes it easier to write these situations/struggles well because of your personal experience yk.
some people like writing characters inspired by fictional characters ( two tiny examples: @/sentimentalsquid's stagheart is inspired by arthur morgan, my outsider danny is inspired by my hcs for one hyperspecific ghostface )

kind of besides the point but since one of my characters kind of entered their evil arc ive noticed how refreshing and inspiring it can be to write a character completely different to how you are soooo maybe thats something you could try?

my oc jayfrost started from the name i think? then i had a plan for him, including character development reaching months ahead and then. i changed my mind. people constantly evolve and your opinions and feelings on your character are bound to change, especially if its a fresh character and youre just settling in and then you notice. oh! they feel VERY different to how i planned them to be, and then you have the option to slowly push them in the direction you think fits them better etc etc.

finally, music. music is great. i imagine animations all the time and then never do anything with it but thats besides the point. i think you can use music to flesh out a character. find songs that match them, listen to songs and think about how this represents them and why. or why it doesnt represent them.

this was very out of order but thats all i got. @lark. /
