Today he wanted to teach pumpkin paw how to tunnel. He’d been lingering near the apprentices' den, hidden in the shade, but now he forced himself to approach his mentor, his tail brushing the ground nervously. "S-sorry, Vinesmoke," he murmured, ducking his head as he approached. "I didn’t mean to keep you waiting. I just…" He trailed off as there was no real excuse, he’d been avoiding training, dreading the moment he’d have to prove himself. He was afraid tunneling was too dangerous, too difficult, and he wasn’t sure he had the courage for it. But he couldn’t admit that. Not wanting to stall any longer he lifted his head and he looked up to see Vinesmoke. "I’m ready now. I won’t slow you down." The words came out quieter than he intended, but he meant them. |

At some point we'll need to finish this part of training. I don't know how many other RPs you have active right now so I will wait for your response when you're free. |

Vinesmoke @Jakestar :heartbounce:16 Moons He/Him Tunneler Vinesmoke’s blue eyes met Pumpkinpaw’s as the young apprentice approached. He didn’t look angry, just calm and focused. He gave a small nod. “You’re here now,” he said. “That’s what matters.” He turned and padded toward a patch of loose soil near a shallow dip in the ground—an old practice tunnel. As they walked, he spoke plainly. “Tunneling isn’t about being the strongest. It’s about being careful. Paying attention. If you rush or stop listening to the ground, that’s when it becomes dangerous.” He stopped at the edge of the training spot and looked over his shoulder. “Watch how I dig. Don’t just claw at the dirt. Keep your movements close and steady. Pull the earth in. Don’t throw it all over.” He crouched and began to dig, slow and controlled. His front paws moved in short, even strokes, pulling the soil behind him in tidy clumps. After a few moments, he stepped aside. “Now you try.” He looked at Pumpkinpaw, his tone clear but not harsh. “One more thing. If the ground feels too soft or you hear it shift, stop. Back out. That’s not failure—that’s smart.” He gave a small nod toward the loosened patch of soil. “Go ahead. I’ll be right here.” |

The way the ground opened so easily for Vinesmoke made it look effortless, however Pumpkinpaw knew it required skill and attention. He swallowed his nerves and stepped forward when Vinesmoke offered up his turn. His paws opened hesitantly as he crouched beside the practice tunnel. Pumpkinpaw (art by Dino) | He/Him | 10 Moons ___________________________ Pumpkinpaw did his best to mimick Vinesmoke’s motions, digging in short, careful strokes, but his first few attempts sent dirt scattering. Flattening his ears, he shot a nervous glance at his mentor before adjusting, forcing himself to slow down. "Pull the earth in. Don’t throw it" He told himself. His next movements were tighter, more controlled, and this time, the soil gathered neatly behind him. It wasn’t perfect, his strokes were still uneven, his posture was still tense, but it was progress. "Kind of like this?" he asked, pausing to look up at Vinesmoke, his voice tentative but hopeful. @Tallstar :heartbounce: |
