➺ .. another apprentice asking him for training. wormbite truly did not mind, he had none of his own but he did wonder how other mentors were faring with their apprentices. if there was a gap in training, he would have to look into that. though, he did notice the recent events had been mostly training focused besides a few. that was good.

the oriental entered into the apprentice's den, nose twitching at the dusty & enclosed space. ah, he did not miss his paw days. "seapaw! come, " he mewed for the other, assuming the tom could conclude he was calling him for training. however, unlike their first session together regarding fishing wormbite reckoned it would be more suited to invite a few more apprentices along.

swift to exit, wormbite went towards the middle of the clearing. like déjà vu he yowled, "if you wish to learn how to battle whilst in water gather here, "

mallowpaw had been taking a nap. again. no shame in it, she just really liked sleeping. especially when she got dreams. especially when the dreams were about frogs! those were the best. but the dream that had just been interrupted
wasn't that exciting. in fact, as she blinked groggy eyes open, she found that she was forgetting more and more of that. she didn't try to grasp the fleeting montage, instead letting it go in favor of focusing on the voice that had awoken her.

the apprentice poked her head out of the den, spotting wormbite nearby. that seemed important. she didn't really know what it was about, but she figured if other apprentices were heading over she should too. so she did, taking her disheveled coat of fur over to the others that had gathered.

he/they - 13 moons - Go with the flow

He was… Awake? So early? The apprentice blinked, eyes adjusting to the soft light that filtered into the den. It was much earlier than he usually awoke, thought probably not what most cats would consider ‘early’. Any dawn patrols will have already left, but it was a normal time to wake up! That was a win. They contemplated lying in just a little longer, when a voice caused them to stir. Ah yea, it was Wormbite! He’d asked the warrior for a water combat lesson. After going over the basic with Heroneye, they’d realised just how beneficial it would be for them to fight from the water. Think about it: as long as they were a more proficient swimmer than the cats of other clans, it should be easy for them to win! They doubted they’d need to throw many attacks, before they sent their opponent fleeing. It was the perfect plan in their mind.

So, they padded out of the den with a big yawn. In their last session, Wormbite had struck them as quite a serious warrior. Not that it was a problem! He just seemed to have a rather no nonsense approach - which was all good with Seapaw, he could cut back on the nonsense when he needed to. The contrast between him, and the far more energetic Eaglewing, who taught Spiderpaw to fish, had made him giggle in the past.

The apprentice sat down by Wormbite, wiping the sleep from their sage green eyes. “Mornin’ Wormbite.” It would be a lie to say he wasn’t a little nervous due to the fighting element, but it’d also include his favourite thing: water! So, he found it far easier to push past any nerves than he had done in Heroneye’s Battle Basics lesson.

Spiderpaw's ears perked as she heard the offer for more training. Water combat? She still needed that! The blue-grey tabby slipped out the apprentice den and found a spot beside Seapaw, giving a small trill as greeting to the apprentice before dipping her head to Wormbite. Her heart raced as she thought about getting back in the water...

The idea was terrifying... but she couldn't let it keep holding her back.

Starrypaw was anxious to learn more. Rowanmane had his own... issues, and her warrior ceremony was being delayed far too much in her opinion.
She could do this.

(I'm quickly joining by mobile, but I'm gonna write better once I get to the pc back!)

CrowPaw anxiously padded up. She…she needed this. She couldn’t fail. She had to push through her training.

➺ hm. another full group of apprentices. though, these appeared to be a quieter group. perhaps the stars did bless him today. wormbite never did well with many cats talking at once. "goodmorning, seapaw," he mewed in response, dipping his head in greeting to each of the apprentices. he would wait another beat to allow everyone to gather themselves before rising to his paws. with a swooping gesture of his tail, he signal for them to follow as he walked out of camp.

he traveled in silence. ah. how he wished riverclan still had cattail pond. it was a shame the squirrels had to steal his favorite spot. he did not voice his wishes -- much preferring riverclan's vague stability -- but he hoped in future moons they would reclaim what was rightfully theirs despite how beansprout had tainted it.

the oriental would come to a stop when he discovered a decent-sized pond. the water was still, but a quick dip of his paw and he reckoned it was deep enough to train in. wormbite turned to face the apprentices he had gathered. "you will be working in pairs. mallowpaw, you are with spiderpaw. starrypaw, pair up with seapaw. crowpaw, you are with me, " he started off, waiting for them to gather their partners. typically, he would pair with the oldest apprentice but he felt these pairs would be more .. provoking.

"the most important thing to keep aware of when in water combat is yourself. in a battle on land, you may be able to push yourself and wind up scarred in the medicine cat den. in a battle in the water, you push yourself too hard and you end up dead. you have to keep aware of how you are feeling. if you are growing tired, or lightheaded, or are struggling to breathe those are signs you need to escape. in this training session, you are to come out immediately. if you are unable, tap the nearest cat three times, " wormbite's tone was steady, but he placed emphasis on the dead part. it was far too easy for something to go wrong in the water.

"and then your focus must be on the water itself and your opponent. keep away from areas of water that have harsh currents or strong, powerful waves. shallow water will offer you limited room. be aware of what resides within the water. while you can use seaweed, rocks, and other obstacles as cover and to your advantage -- you forget where they are and you can end up tangled or injured. "

"your opponents will vary. the majority of cats will have little to no experience swimming. you have to know your predator before you tempt or drag them into the water. a badger may not like swimming but they are efficient. dogs are unpredictable. certain ones are more talented at it while ones with thick coats may get dragged down or those with short snouts and legs may struggle. i will do my best to prepare you for a multitude of scenarios but your focus will remain the same for the most part. you want to chip away at your opponent. tire them out, weave and avoid. with more efficient swimmers, i recommend doing this with fellow clanmates to regain advantage. " wormbite explained, his voice growing slightly hoarse. ah. he could not remember the last time he had spoken this much. alas, it was needed lest the apprentices go in blind. he supposed that had to be a decent introduction. truthfully, his other clanmates with stronger, denser frames may have a different view on water combat but with his body frame he was built for agility & endurance which shaped his style.

"what i want each of you to do is decide amongst yourself who will begin in the water and who will begin on land. eventually you will switch, but for now your objectives are as follows. cats within water should be focused on getting their partner into the water. either by unbalancing them, splashing and dragging them in, or whatever you come up with. cats on land you want to stay where you are and get your partner onto the land. you can use your hindlegs to your advantage by blinding them with sand, grabbing onto them.. go with what works in the moment. when you have decided, begin." wormbite finished.

the black tom towards to crowpaw, ear flickering. the apprentice had a bit of an unfair disadvantage but wormbite swore he would do his best to keep it balanced. for the most part. "you may choose which one you prefer, "

[ headups since i wanna try and keep this roleplay steady & active so y'all can get your requirements these are some of the stuff i am trying to follow to make it smooth . i am open to feedback so do lmk (esp if you have questions/concerns) !! ;w; ]

-- i will try to post at least once a week at minimum (if the roleplay isnt ready to move on, worm won't push it forward dw but he might just chime in with tips/whatnot)
-- if you have not responded to the most recent wormbite post within 1 week you will be bumped. if there is no response you will be skipped after three days. however, you are free to rejoin the roleplay at anytime but keep in mind the absence will be noticed in roleplay (& your character may need to be filled back in / etc.). this is only if you do not communicate that you need more time or something / etc. . :heartbounce:

Starrypaw
#thestarswithin
Riverclan | 11 moons
Mind Reader, Lucky Duck 3

Starrypaw nodded quietly, following the group of apprentices behind the dark-scarred tom.
She had already been trained by Wormbite, and she had definitely enjoyed it. But today, she didn't think she would be able to focus at all on the training she would have to do.
The Starcave was still collapsed, and it seemed that no one cared at all! But her, Starrypaw, couldn't bear the thought of her beloved sister unable to reach her. She wanted her protection, her eyes. She wanted to be followed by the Starclan kit.

A little frog bounced in front of her and splashed some mud on her chest. She licked it off while it jumped away into the security of a puddle, remaining a bit behind the others.
Seapaw was nice, and... maybe she'd talked with Spiderpaw once? She couldn't remember at all right now, but she blinked gratefully at the adult trained before joining Seapaw on one side of this nice pond.
"I'd never come here. It's so... peaceful..." Her voice whispered away like the echo of the breeze.

"I'd like to... stay on land, if you're okay with it.." She commented while fidgeting with her paws. It's just... I didn't have almost any training of fighting, so I wouldn't know what to do. I'd rather stay here and try to avoid Seapaw getting me. But she was a bit embarrassed about it, so she didn't admit it.
Instead, she took her position and steadied her legs, then turned to gaze at Wormbite's expression and waited for further instructions.

I'll... do my best..!

SPIDERPAW
Riverclan Apprentice | 9 moons | Lanky, amber eyed, blue-grey tabby she-cat with white paws, chin, and tail tip.
Heightened perception: Smell
~~~
When he waved his tail, Spiderpaw followed after Wormbite along with the others. Her sensitive nose ever taking in the very unique scents of the woods around Riverclan's territory. Despite being surrounded by apprentices she didn't really know, except for Seapaw, the fresh scents grounded her. She would need it for this kind of training.
Spiderpaw listened to the assigned partners and felt a bit disappointed. She had hoped to be paired with Seapaw... Nevertheless, she was sure that she could handle her own. She looked to Mallowpaw and approached with a warm, sheepish smile before turning to listen to the rest of the instructions. It all made sense to her. Her tail twitched as she thought back to her own experiences. While she didn't like it, she had one thing that she really hoped the others didn't; She knew exactly how far she could go before she couldn't anymore.
Her tail tip twitched back and forth anxiously as she tried to determine what side she wanted to fight on, first. She had a feeling that she would be able to fend off the younger apprentice if she was on land, though she had no idea how much training Mallowpaw had. Spiderpaw wasn't as confident with the water side of things. However, when she eventually did get pulled into the water, she wasn't sure how she would react. Her heart raced at just the thought. She would have a lot more control over when she went under water if she started in the pond, even if it was a more difficult position.
With a deep breath, she decided to leave it up to Mallowpaw. Spiderpaw figured that giving the younger apprentice the advantage of starting wherever she preferred might benefit her. The grey tabby already had some advanced training and would be put in both positions at any point. Why bother deciding which one would benefit her more?
So, as Wormbite finished speaking, she turned to the other apprentice and gave a small smile. "You can decide... where you want to start," She mewed. "I'll take whichever..." Spiderpaw told Mallowpaw. As soon as the other apprentice made her decision, she would get into position, ready to start as soon as they were both in their spots as Wormbite had instructed.
mallowpaw
[3/100]
purrks: primal instincts
mallowpaw still didn't know where they were going. but she was more than happy to follow along. she appreciated the opportunity to get out of camp, see the territory a little bit. she'd only been out one other time, so she occupied the quiet journey with the examination of her surroundings. the air smelled...not cleaner, but less dense than back in camp. she could still smell cats, but it was as if their scents had been spread out, and the space between the signatures was filled with exciting new aromas. of course, she was unable to decipher them yet, but she was content nonetheless. it didn't take much to make her happy, and everyone knew that.
they arrived at a pond, which was a good sign. mallowpaw loved the water. more than even most of her fellow riverclanners. she'd been told she was a natural at swimming. she didn't really know what that meant, but she sure liked paddling around and floating. maybe that's what they were doing here? wormbite began pairing them up. ooh, maybe a race? she flicked her ears in acknowledgement of her assignment, offering spiderpaw an easygoing smile.
oh. this was not a race. water combat, training, opponent. mallowpaw only understood about half of what wormbite was saying. she'd never had battle training before, but she supposed this was a rather integrative way to kick things off. she didn't want to hurt her fellow apprentice though. spiderpaw was older but mallowpaw was larger, and she had no clue how much training her partner had. huh, maybe mallowpaw should be more worried about herself. but she trusted her clanmates and felt confident all would be well.
"thanks, i'll take the water," she offered in response to spiderpaw. she approached the pond's edge, placing her forelegs in first. not too cold. she tread the rest of the way in slowly, not wanting to plunge down if the terrain suddenly dropped into deeper waters. chest-deep in the pond, she rotated to face spiderpaw. "good to go?" she asked amiably, tilting her head up at her temporary opponent. wormbite had told them to begin when ready, but it felt wrong to just attack without at least confirming.
