Primroseadder yawned as she emerged from the warriors' den, blinking away the sleepiness from her emerald eyes. She found her paws carrying her over to the apprentices' den, and the warrior stuck her head through the entrance.

''Flickerpaw. Up 'n at 'em,'' she meowed firmly, her tone leaving no room for argument from the young tom. ''I know you're tired, but it's time for trainin'. 'm takin' ya out for a tour of the territory today.''

Primroseadder nodded and led the way out of camp and into the territory. ''Right now, we're walkin' within RiverClan's general territory,'' she explained, glancing at Flickerpaw. ''This is where most of the huntin' happens, seein' as Seagrass Fields is the habitat for herbs 'n Lionsbeach didn't have much prey ta begin with.''

Without waiting for Flickerpaw to respond, the warrior veered off and headed somewhere closer to the camp. ''This may sadden ya a bit, but this is Seagrass Fields, RiverClan's burial grounds. If ya have anyone ta visit, ya may pay your respects.''

Primroseadder led the way away from the graves. She didn't want to stick around any longer than she had to. So, she led Flickerpaw to the edge of the forest where the leaf-littered floor---finally, the snow and ice had thawed---met with sand. She stepped onto the sand, taking in a breath of salty air.

''Lionsbeach,'' Primroseadder introduced the landmark to Flickerpaw in one word. ''It's not known for prey, but ya can find the occasional fish on the shore---if birds haven't got ta 'em---'n the occasional seagull ta catch. Crabs, too. Somethin' that Lionsbeach is known for, however, are its infamous sunsets.''

Primroseadder's eyes narrowed at her apprentice's question. ''Not...as far as I know of---er, at least in the moons 've been alive,'' she responded, her ears flicking. Flickerpaw's question had been...dark, to say the least. She led him back into the forest. ''Ya won't be seein' Sedgewater Valley---RiverClan's border with WindClan---today, just so ya know. Owlstar hasn't reopened it yet, so I can't take ya there.''

A wide expanse of land separated by a river came into view before them, and Primroseadder purposely stopped a few fox-lengths away from the border. ''Don't go any further. Bumblestar's out for RiverClan blood, 'n I ain't lettin' it be you that she gets her claws on,'' she meowed firmly, glancing at the tom. ''This is Smallpines, RiverClan's border with ThunderClan. Take in a whiff of their scent 'n commit it ta memory. I want ya ta be ta recognize it on future border patrols Sunheart 'n Owlstar may send ya on.''

Primroseadder's ears perked up at the sounds of rustling, her emerald gaze shooting over to the border. The warrior remained in front of Flickerpaw, protecting him, sliding out her claws.

''ThunderClan,'' the RiverClanner growled, neck and shoulder fur bristling. ''Take one step over the border 'n I'll shred ya.''

''Here's how it's goin' ta go---you're goin' ta leave 'n get outta here, because right now, 'm rather tempted ta slit ya throat myself instead of lettin' Owlstar or Bumblestar do it. You're gettin' on my nerves, thundersquirrel. I was tryin' take take my apprentice for a tour of our territory 'n then you showed up 'n messed up my plans. As Dazecloud left, Primroseadder rounded on Flickerpaw. ''What in StarClan's name was that?!'' she demanded, a low growl rolling in her throat. She shook her head, rubbing the top half of her maw with her white forepaw. ''Whatever it was, it just earned ya tick duty for the next moon. By yourself. You are not allowed ta ask any of the other apprentices for help. The only cat ya can ask for anythin' is Berryshine.''

''Ya can be sure that I will be lettin' Sunheart 'n Owlstar know about this. I told ya stay back 'n ya didn't listen. In fact, ya made matters WORSE! Next time, keep ya muzzle shut, if ya don't wanna be lectured. If ya want ta act like a kit, I might propose ta Owlstar your demotion,'' the RiverClanner hissed irritably. ''Back ta camp. We're not finishin' the tour. When we get there, you're goin' ta go straight ta Berryshine 'n ask for some mouse bile, then you're goin' ta see ta the elders' ticks. I'll be watchin' ya, so ya better do it.''

Primroseadder gave a sigh, relieved that Flickerpaw seemed to be in the right state of mind today. ''All right, let's go,'' the warrior mewed firmly, leading the way out into the territory. ''You still won't see Sedgewater Valley today. Owlstar hasn't reopened it.''

The she-cat led the way through the territory and towards the ShadowClan border. She purposely stopped a couple of fox-lengths away. ''The scent line is just ahead, but we're stopping back here 'cause Dawnstar's warriors can be quite...vicious, ' 'm not goin' ta let ya be the next pelt flayed by one of the shadowrats,'' Primroseadder pointed out. ''Take in a whiff of their scent 'n commit it ta memory. I want ya ta be able ta recognize the scents of the other Clans whenever Sunheart sends ya on border patrols.''

''Your weight needs ta be spread evenly throughout your body,'' she pointed out, dipping her head to nudge his hind paws close to his stomach. ''Tuck ya hind paws closer ta your belly. It will add more power ta your spring when the time comes. If you're huntin' land prey, that is. Fishin' is different, 'n I'll teach ya how in time when I teach ya how ta swim.''

''Your tail needs ta hover just above the ground,'' Primroseadder meowed, using her white-tipped forepaw to adjust Flickerpaw's tail. ''When huntin', ya can't let it brush any surroundin' undergrowth, 'n ya need ta be careful 'n watch where you're puttin' your paws. Ya step on a twig 'n your quarry will know that you're there. 'N your pawsteps need ta be as light as clouds. Smaller prey---mice, for example---can feel vibrations through the earth, so if your pawsteps are too heavy, the mouse will feel ya there 'n take off.''
