The Traveler's eyes were wide and her heart was hammering against her
chest. The cream-and-white pelted Molly wasn't sane. No, she wasn't sane,
not when the noises surrounded her. They blended with the sound of a cat,
but she wasn't sure whether it was real or in her mind. Pawsteps crunched
the wet leaves, and the sickly scent of her blood mingled with kittypet. Moth's
face melted into a mixture of alarm and relief, before the pain of the massive
scratch over her eye made a flash of pain dart almost playfully over her features.
Her voice trembled. "The voices. Do you hear the voices?" Her voice
raised to a snarl. Cat noises surrounded her. Pawsteps, chuckling at her pain and
horror, heavy breathing of a beast echoing in the bush. "They're everywhere!
Do you hear the freaking voices?!" Her shout broke off into a crumpled sob
and she pressed her paw to her injury. She shook her head, blood and tears
dripping onto the leaf litter. "They're always watching." She whimpered.
The 9-moon-old shorthair's shoulder fur prickled. Her breathing wavered. The
Traveler was broken. The traveler was broken and could never be repaired.
