"The first trail is a maze, after that is a surprise! Be warned that you will be I injured during these trails and we are not responsible."

Looks, described: mousy brown hair, a tad bit over grown and messy. Pale skin and lots of freckles all over his body. Dull gray eyes. He's short but fast and can easily evade attacks. Has scars running along the left side of his face.

Personality, described: he's very secluded, making friends is not his thing. It's hard enough for him to trust others, let alone get close to them. You have to prove yourself to him as trustful. He's not exactly shy as much as he just hates people and pushes them away.
Backstory: He grew up in a "no magic" village, so when he discovered his abilities he hid them away. He met someone else in the village who also had similar abilities. The two fell in love, but the other had evil intentions. They wanted to attack mortals, those who didn't have magic. Nathan, got pulled along before he could realize what was really being done. Eventually Nathan got away, found a new group of gifted people to hide away with.

Raelyn is a very cheeky and upfront person. While she does sway in and out from her aloof to direct personalities, she generally treats everything with a grain of salt and has an honest approach to things. She hates that magically gifted people are pushed aside in fear and hopes that one day people will see that not all magic is dangerous. Her curiosity can sometimes get the better of her as she tends to get herself into tight situations. Other than that, she tends to be very nonchalant about things and generally is very carefree.
Hoshio is very hardworking and down to earth. It urks him when people lie to others and themselves. Though his is passive in general, there are certain things that wont slip by him.
To put is simply, Alexander hates people. He despises them. Wants nothing to do with them and authority. He wants nothing more than to be free of control and to make his own decisions. His cynical nature comes across as cold and aggressive. One minute he's acting all cheery with you, the next he's holding a knife to your throat telling you to get lost. Caution and be warned, he's a dangerous and mentally disturbed individual. However, was that a hint of fear and confusion in his eyes?
Backstory
Raelyn and Hoshio grew up in the same merchant city and currently attend the same school. Both grew up in middle merchant-class families that took their kids magical abilities as both gifts and curses and put them to work with their abilities as soon as they could comprehend and control them.
While Raelyn's ability was accepted in her family, mostly for how passive it was in nature, she did endure teasing and bullying for it and her small size. Eventually she learned to ignore the bullying as her parents placed her in a special school for those with magical abilities.
Alexander had been an outcast for as long as he could remember. He'd travel and hitchhike his way from place to place, going as far as to sometimes steal things to get by. When a stranger approached him at the age of 10, noting his magical abilities and saying that there was a place for him, he accepted and went with them. Let's just say that was a mistake and what he endured hardened him and broke him into the messed up individual he is today.

Name: Jaycen (Jay) Stone

First Trial- The Maze.

In this trial you will be placed at one entrance of a maze with a partner, which have been chosen through examination of powers and personality. You will find that your partner is best in a similar magic you are best in. You don’t know your partner and will not meet them before the trial, you will have to learn to work together quickly.
You both enter the maze and have to get through, fighting monsters and such put there as challenges. You will need to get out the other side of the maze, the less amount of time the more points you get, the less injures you have the more points you get, the better you work together, the more points you get. You get the idea.

Here are the teams:

Team one is Jaycen Stone and Raelyn Coxwell. Team one’s maze is based around monsters hidden in swamps, nasty little things, prepare for that!

Team two is Nathan Grey and Alexander Delgrande. Team two’s maze is based around creations of those who trek into dangerous magics, some of you might have seen them before, strange little things.

Team three is Gavin Laies and Hoshio Layki. Team three’s maze is based around the untamed creatures of deep caves, I’d bring a torch if I were you.


Be prepared, don’t meet with your teammates until you are told, you will be called in five minutes, stay back in the assigned rooms until you’re called.

A blonde girl paced back and forth in her designated room. She was biting her fingernails and muttering to herself. She turned around and stared at herself in the mirror. "Ok Jay," she said in a trembling voice. "You can do this. You are strong and capable." Jay nodded to herself and straightened out her tight shirt. Out of nervousness, she untied her boots and retied them. She shivered. She was so used to wearing her sweater that she could barely stand to be without it. Instead, she grabbed a flexible, black, zip up jacket and sat down to wait for the call.

The room was small, quickly put together without care. It wasn’t even really a room per say, just a tent set up to hide the trial participants away in. Since Gavin and Nathan had shown up together, as a team of sorts, the directors of this thing had shoved them together into one tent.
Not that they cared at all. Alone time was good, Nathan liked it more than Gavin did.
Some participants got real rooms, some got tents, Gavin thought he had saw one was shoved into a closet. The idea made Gavin chuckle.
“What’s so funny, Gav?” Nathan asked, he sounded very nervous, had been picking at an older scar on the back of his leg successfully reopening the old wound.
“Nothing, would you stop that?” Gavin grabbed the other’s hands and held them away from the wound. “Cheer up, this is gonna be fun! You’re not going up against actual dangerous experiments, so it's nothing to worry about.” He ruffled the other’s curly hair, giving a smile though he didn’t get one in return from his nervous partner. “Just a few more minutes…”
“You should have brought Abigail, honestly, I don’t want to do this” Nathan chewed his lip instead of picking at the scar. “But I guess I’ll try it, for you.”

Oddly enough, but expected, Alexander was placed in his own solitary waiting room. Presumably because of the fear of letting him mingle with the others early on. At least, that's what he thought until a small blonde peeked her head into the room. He had been playing around with rocks that were now molten lava orbs levitating above his hands, but when the girl showed up, they immediately cooled and dropped to the ground as deformed chunks of basalt rock.

"Who are you?" The girl asked as she stepped fully into the makeshift room. She fidgeted with her aviator goggles before deciding to just sit cross legged on the floor.

"L." Was his simple reply since he didn't like to nor wanted to give too much about him away.

"L? You expect me to believe that that's your name?" The girl shot back, there was a hint of challenge in her glare.

This could be fun...

Hoshio peeked into the room he was suppose to go in and saw a blonde girl in a black zip up sitting on the floor, "Huh, I thought these were individual waiting rooms..."

“Gav, it’s a bit shady, isn’t it?” Nathan asked, sitting up on the floor where he had been laying previously. “This could all just be to lure us in, you know as well as me that some people wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to get rid of a few kids like us.” The thought had been on his mind as soon as they had heard about this whole thing, he tried to get Gavin as far away as possible but the older had other ideas, involving, and I quote; “You using your epic fire and me my animals to beat their sorry butts!”
“Oh, come on! This again! You’re just paranoid, can’t we be young and free for once? I love ya, Nathan, but your a bit too cautious now-a-days. Let’s chill while we can.” He sat, or more fell, down next to Nathan, putting his arm around the other’s shoulders and pulling him closer.
“I have good reason to be cautions.” His hand ran across the scar on his face. “But whatever, Gav, I’ll do as you say and ‘chill.’”
“Good, you’ll thank me later.” Gavin smiled wide, staying sitting next to the other.

Hoshio peeked into the room he was suppose to go in and saw a blonde girl in a black zip up sitting on the floor, "Huh, I thought these were individual waiting rooms..."
Jay looked in surprise. Due to instinct, she jumped to her feet and landed with splayed legs. Her hands instantly glazed over with ice and she glared at the boy. "Who are you?" she questioned with an icy stare. She didn't trust this guy one bit. Although he was eye catching, he could very well be there to destroy her. He was her competition. Not her ally.

Lex moved forward and leaned in until his face was just a few inches away from the other girl's, "I do believe you forgot to introduce yourself." A challenging grin crossed his face, "Besides, what are you going to do about me not telling you my real name? Huh?"

Raelyn's golden eyes were stormy. It was more like an electric storm if anything, "Simple." She mused in reply, "I won't tell you mine." With that, she huffed and turned to face the opposite way, towards the door. She could sense the orange-haired boy shuffling back to where he originally was.

"Alexander."

"Huh?"

"Alexander's my name."

"Quite a lengthy name you got. Is there anything shorter I can call you by?"

"Lex."

"Sure Lexie."

"...your name?"

"Raelyn."

"Well aren't you just a literal Rae of sunshine."

"I will blow you out of this tent."

"I dare you."

While she would've absolutely loved to blow the boy away, quite literally, she didn't want the authorities present at the Trials to question anything. So, she opted for a less funnier, but still funny nonetheless, option: sending a gust of wind to blow his hair around and mess it up. With a flick of her wrist, the wind in the tent obeyed her and did as such.

"H-Hey!" Alexander exclaimed as his already messy hair was blow everywhere by the sudden gust of wind.

"Serves you right." huffed Raelyn as she watched the comedy unfold.

"The coordinators put me in here." The caramel haired boy replied, "My guess is that they want up to somewhat get to know the competition." His hand was still extended in an offering to help the other girl up and onto her feet.

She looked at the hand with uncertainty. Slowly, she took it. Jay eyed him suspiciously. He was being so nice. Wasn't competition supposed to intimidate you? Her beautiful blue eyes gazed at him with mixed emotions.

Once the wind died down Alex worked at fixing his hair from the perceived mess that it was, "So I guess your chosen element is wind and air?"

"Gee I wonder..." There was a hint of sarcasm in Raelyn's voice, "A girl wearing aviator goggles and a hat that just blew a bunch of wind in your face, what could my choice element be?"

"Who knows," Alex grinned as he closed the distance between the two, his face inches from hers, "you might've been lying about having magical abilities at all."

"Says the boy who was playing with rocks when I came in."

"Oh?" Alex raised an eyebrow, "Playing with rocks you say?" He turned his right palm upward in a sweeping motion and the rocks followed into his hands. His left hand sparked to life as a flame danced across it before disappearing. With a flick of his wrist, the rocks took to a hover above his palm as they quickly melted again into balls of magma, "So, playing with rocks?"

Raelyn had nothing to say. There was just a look of awe as she watched the magical powers of this other boy, "That's honestly awesome."

"Nah, it doesn't beat your probably ability to fly."

"True, but it does match your personality." Raelyn caught a flicker of another emotion in his blue eyes that mixed with his teasing look and it somewhat alarmed her internally.

"Anyways," Lex said as he dropped the magma balls that cooled into basalt once again, "Any idea how long we have to wait in here?" With that, that scary emotion was gone.

The girl nodded as she was hauled up. Her light weight caused her to fly up and run into the boy. Jay tipped forward and her hands landed on his chest as she steadied herself. A subtle blush crept up her cheeks as she looked up at his face. His green eyes started to break through an icy barrier inside of her. Suddenly, she stepped back. "Sorry."

Jay looked to the door as they called everyone. Her heart sank. It's now or never. "Good luck," she muttered to Hoshio before she walked quickly out the door.
As she madeher way to her designated pot, she quickly tied up her blonde hair. Her bangs fell in her faces and she blew away. As she reached the entrance, she noticed she was the first one there. She sat against the gate and twirled small snowflakes around her fingers. You can do this...you are strong. @Solstice X

“Yes! Here we go, come on Nathan!” Gavin jumped to his feet, pulling the shorter boy up with him. He laced their fingers together and pulled him out of the ‘room.’ Nathan couldn’t help but smile at the others excitement, though he himself just wanted to walk away.
“Gav, calm down you’re gonna yank my arm off.” Nathan whined lightly, to which the other slowed down to a speed walk. They reached the area quickly, each spotting the doors they were to go to. “You sure you don’t just wanna quit now?” Nathan asked, trying one last time to get out of this.
“Nope!” Gavin smiled, pulling the other into a hug quickly. “You’ll be fine, and we’re gonna win this thing!” He pulled away, his hands resting on Nathan’s shoulders.
“Just know I’m not gonna give it my all, just enough to get by without getting hurt.” Nathan crossed his arms as he informed the other.
“That’s enough for me, stay safe, see you after this!” Gavin leaned and kissed the shorter boy’s cheek very quickly before dashing over to his door and waiting for his teammate.
Nathan just sighed, heading over to his door as well, thinking of a trick to do.

Raelyn was wearing an extremely wide smile as she was scanning the others for her teammate. When the bands had appeared on their wrists in the waiting room, she made a joke to Alexander about how fitting his orange band was and that it matched with his hair. As she scanned the crowded, she noted that the girl wearing a matching blue bracelet to hers. Taking in the appearance of an ice queen right off the bat, Raelyn thought it would be fun to literally blow her away. However, this was shoved aside for the more neutral flying in. Therefore, she whirled around and sprung herself with a gust of wind forward towards her teammate, landing like an acrobat right in front of her.

Alexander thought a fun trick would be to scare the living daylight out of his teammate. From a distance away he saw his teammate waiting at their designated door. With a sweep of his hand, the ground surrounding the door, save for the little piece of land his teammate was and a one meter radius around him melted away into a ring shaped pit of lava surrounding him. There was a sort of maniacal grin plastered to his face as slowly sauntered over, waiting for the other boy's reaction.

Hoshio didn't get the chance to say a proper farewell to the girl he met, but he had a feeling that he'd definitely see her again later on in the trials. Switching his attention to the task at handed, he headed for the green team's marked door and saw another boy standing at it. Out of the corner of his eye he swore he saw a ring of lava erupt at the nearby orange door and wondered which contestant did that.

Nathan had been standing around absentmindedly picking at a scar, he had been almost at the point of reopening it when something happened. Around him the ground seemed to change, in the blink of an eye it went from the normal ground to lava, the liquid rock heating Nathan up instantly. The heat didn’t bother Nathan at all, he was used to it as fire was something he was all too familiar. He jumped a bit initially but he quickly caught on that it was not what he was fearing, but his teammate’s trick. He looked up at the boy who had walked over.
“Impressive.” Was all he said, his hand absentmindedly ran along the smaller scar under his eye. He wasn’t much of a people person, so he didn’t think to introduce himself.

Gavin was really excited, so excited that he didn’t think to look over at Nathan, missing the ring of lava. When his partner came over he instantly reached out his hand. “I’m Gavin, Gavin Laies. Some people call me Gav, you can call me whatever. I’m really excited to be here, are you? I’ve never heard of anything like this before, I…” He seemed to realize he was rambling and his hand fell, his cheeks heating in embarrassment. “Sorry, I was rambling… I’m Gavin, and you are?”

Raelyn was wearing an extremely wide smile as she was scanning the others for her teammate. When the bands had appeared on their wrists in the waiting room, she made a joke to Alexander about how fitting his orange band was and that it matched with his hair. As she scanned the crowded, she noted that the girl wearing a matching blue bracelet to hers. Taking in the appearance of an ice queen right off the bat, Raelyn thought it would be fun to literally blow her away. However, this was shoved aside for the more neutral flying in. Therefore, she whirled around and sprung herself with a gust of wind forward towards her teammate, landing like an acrobat right in front of her.

Jay's head shot up in surprise and, once again, jumped onto her feet. This time she landed on her feet. Upon instinct, her hands shot forward and the ground glazed over with ice. She took a deep breath and actually surveyed her "attacker". Taking in her appearance and blue wrist band, she instantly felt guilty. "Sorry," Jay said. She winced as she spoke. This was not best impression she could make.

"Take it you're a fire preference too?" Alex asked as he noted the fact that his teammate seemed used to the heat. Great, now I don't have to worry too much about roasting him alive accidentally. The orange-haired boy didn't fancy the idea of being locked up again after he was just let out on probation, so a teammate that could use fire magic was preferred, or at least one that was keen to stay out of his way. His thoughts were trailing one way until he felt a rock hit him and turned to see Rae turned away from him, but her body language said everything. A grin crossed his face at the thought of how fun this competition might actually be.

"Hoshio, and it's perfectly fine." He replied, "You seem excited for this. So, what's your preference?" the question came as Hoshio flicked his wrist upwards and spikes of earth jutted out of the ground around the two. Small flowering vines could be seen slowly "leaking" from the tips of this earthen spikes.

"I'm Jaycen," she greeted. "But most people call me Jay." She held out a hand and realized it was coated in frost. She quickly shook it and held it out again. A nervous laugh escaped her mouth. Jay admired Rae's confidence and power. She seemed like the kind who would win this competition. Good for her.

“Yeah, though I don’t much use lava. I used t--” He didn’t finish his sentence, as his laugh interrupted him. At seeing the rock hit the other, he couldn’t help but laugh. He tried not to laugh, because he didn’t want to offend the other, but he just ended up snorting quite unattractively.
“Sorry for laughing.” He apologized when he had calmed himself. He attempted to just move past it quickly in case the other was mad. “I guess I should show you a trick, right?”

“I have a nature...ish preference. I mean, it is nature but it’s…” He didn’t really know how to explain it, it was entirely nature but most schools don’t teach it or consider it nature. He wondered if the other had went to a school, because he probably would have been taught that certain magics were dangerous even if they weren’t.
“I’ll just show you, just, don’t… It’s not dangerous like some people say…” He took a deep breath and cupped his hands closed so there was still empty space in them but you couldn’t see in them. He closed his eyes and focused, after a few moments, he opened his hands to reveal a small mouse has appeared there, alive and well.

"It's fine." Lex replied before nodding at the notion of a trick, "If you could aim it at the blonde over their preferably, that would be even better." A playfully evil grin crossed his face as he thought of the idea of getting back at the daring aviator.

Hoshio leaned in to get a closer look of the mouse. His green eyes sparkled with curiosity as he wondered what other animals his partner could manifest seemingly out of thin air, "Cute guy. Does that mean you can pull a rabbit out of a hat?"

Nathan put out a hand, making a flame appear. Reaching out with both hands it was almost like he was molding the flames, pulling it to look like a stick. The end of it seemed to bloom like a flower. After it was crafted the flame turned blue. A blue flower. Then turned to glass. "Sorry, can't aim a piece of art at a girl, unless you want me to chuck it." He twirled the glass flower in his hands. "Don't worry, I can do more than make pretty things."
Hoshio leaned in to get a closer look of the mouse. His green eyes sparkled with curiosity as he wondered what other animals his partner could manifest seemingly out of thin air, "Cute guy. Does that mean you can pull a rabbit out of a hat?"[/FONT]
"Yeah, never thought of that." He laughed slightly, putting the mouse into the pocket of his jacket. "Ya ever fought with your magic before?" He suddenly remembered they had to fight, and if the other was new to it that might be a problem.

Jay turned to Rae and raised on eyebrow. She had clearly not thought this through. "Seriously?" she said. "You expect this competition to not be deadly?" Her blue gaze was incredulous.

He crinkled up his nose, looking over at the girls briefly. "Why would I?" He watched the girls talking, spinning the flower in his fingers some more. Wouldn't it be a bit awkward to just give a girl a flower. If Gavin say him give the flower what would he say? Nathan thought about this as he looked at the other team.
Hoshio nodded, and as if to prove his point, his made a rising motion with his hand as the spikes lifted out of the ground. With a turn of his hand, the spikes turned pointedly at the door to their maze, "speaking of fighting, got a clue what's in there?"[/FONT]
"Well... The whole thing said our maze was based around the 'untamed creatures of deep caves,' and I doubt they'd but real threats. I mean, they might risk it if there were lots of precautions but there doesn't seem to be... Now that I think of it, a place like this having anything dangerous seems a bit sketchy, I've barely seen anyone but contestants."

"I mean, injuries are practically guaranteed, but death? Probably not as that's a messy business to clear up with authorities...then again, this does have a sketchy air to it to begin with." Rae continued after noting her teammate's disbelief. She knew that they'd be facing some sort of swampy ordeal, but what exactly it was going to be like would soon be found out.

"Illusion magic? Summoning and desummoning?" Hoshio suggested, "It'd explain a few things. At the very least we could always keep an eye out for the others too in case something goes astray and they don't pick up on it."

[CENTER]"Oh, uh, no one." He turned away, flustered for about a half a second before he forced past the incident. "I don't need to loosen up, it'll put me in a calm state and I'll be more susceptible to attack. That's rule number two; never be calm before battle." He explained, looking very serious and somewhat shocked that the other didn't know about something simple like this, it wasn't really real rules to anything, not for school, not for these trials, more just rules of being off with magic and surviving. "Rule number one; If you show you care, you show weakness. Never show weakness." He didn't exactly know why he had said that second part, but he had done it without thinking.

"...Yeah, I'm gonna keep a close eye on everything, but for now." He turned excitedly to face the door, a smile plastered on his face. "I think its about time that the mazes get open up. So I'm going to prepare myself for that." He patted the side of his pants quickly to check if his items were still attached to his belt, they might be useful here.

The doors to each separate maze opened with a buzz, all at the same time. The inside, due to magic, looked much larger than it had on the outside. As soon as each contestant had walked into the maze the doors shut closed with another buzz.
Team one first came across an ugly creature. It was tall, wide, and smelt of everything bad you could image. It seemed to be made up of mud and sludge, the substance dripping off of its form slowly. In its back plants grew, cattails and lily pads and all things you could think of growing in a swamp. Its face looked melted, the goo from which it was made up dripping like very wet clay, never staying in place. It was at least two times taller than a human, and about half as wide as it is tall.
Team two’s first beast came out of the shadows as soon as the doors were closed. There wasn’t much to say about this creature, because you could barely see it. It seemed to be cat-like from the silhouette. The room was dark and the creature was all black. You could hear its claws against the ground and feel its hot breath, hear the drool drip from its wide mouth. Its eyes glowed brightly, holding a creepily human look to them.
Team three quickly encountered mole like creatures. They were short, but very fast and there were tons of them. They seemed to have a lot of extra skin attached to their overly chubby bodies. They scurried around of six legs, each leg attached to large, razor sharp claws. In their mouth held long fang-like teeth that didn’t fit a creature like that. They were a dull shade of pink, and though they had too much of it that it sagged, their skin seemed to be hard like a shell on their backs.

The first thing to hit Rae was the smell. It was a somewhat soggy and putrid stench mixed into one. She made a gagging sound before she put on a gas mask that was clipped to her belt. Wearing denim shorts and a loose flowing white top was probably not the best choice she could've made as soon she found the sludge splattered on her legs and shirt from just walking in it. Thankfully, she made the cautious decision to wear hunter's boots. They saved her from having wet socks and the sludge seeping in that would've occurred if she had chosen to wear converses, "So, where do we begin?" She asked as she scanned the swampy biome ahead.

"That's not a good rule to live by." Lex remarked as he took a step into the darkness. Aren't you a bit hypocritical on that Lex? His conscious chimed. Shut it. The lava boy's "toys" soon erupted into balls of lava suspended around him and his teammate as he scanned the dark quarters of their maze, "Lucky we're our own light sources, eh?"

Rocks and earth. Just dirt everywhere. Great. Hoshio's mind reeled as he scanned their earthen maze. While it proved advantageous for him to have all the dirt he could desire around him, it was also a pain to him that the entire thing seemed like one big cave. If there was anything he tried to hide, it was his claustrophobia, and the cave just screamed of tight spaced. Thankfully though, he should be able to get himself literally out of any tight situation here. "Where to?"

“Yeah…” Nathan mumbled, his voice barely audible. He cautiously looked around, despite the light provided by Lex, the short boy still couldn’t see his own feet on the ground. It was cold, so cold he couldn’t heat himself up. It made his fingertips feel numb and his legs to shake slightly, not just because it was cold but because he’d never encountered a time he couldn’t heat himself up even a little. He took a few steps forward, his shoes clicking againts the ground and echoing against the walls he could only faintly see. He listened closely around, not moving. “If there is something here, it’s got soft feet.” He once again mumbled, he wanted to be catious as he didn’t know what they would be facing.

Gavin went over to one of the walls, running his fingers along the rugged stone. He was fairly good at tracking, and if they were facing a beast, they’d have to upper hand to know where it was rather than be caught off guard by it. The problem was, he didn’t know what he should be looking for. “No scratch marks or anything, and no sign that any creature rubbed against the wall…” He crouched down to check closer to the ground, maybe a burrow was there?
