Ashfur still trapped Squirrelflight's children in a fire thinking that he would get to her and convince her to be his mate. He still did this extremely abusive and manipulative thing in an effort to force Squirrelflight to submit to his one-sided desire.

Bramblestar became leader and put Squirrelflight in a position to also have a lot of authority. He's not all that much better I guess, but I don't think he would have threatened to murder her family to make her love him.

i don't like squirrelflight but i don't think she desires any of them. Although I do think she could of still kept leafpool's kits <3 but she shouldn't get abused.. (although i have mixed feelings on my statement.) Squirrel didnt need ashfur or bramble

Well, it depends on how you look at it. Really neither off them would be good for many reasons.
1. Age difference: Ashfur was born around the time Cloudtail was, which makes him around the age if Squirrelflights uncle/niece. While BrambleClaw was a new Warrior when Squirrelflight was born.
2. They both try to make her feel Guilty:
In The New Prophecy Ashfur states his Mother was killed by Tigerstar, probably in a attempt to make her see the bad in BrambleClaw. While in Squirrelflights Hope BrambleStar is constantly trying to make Squirrelflight feel guilty and small.

So really neither of them are good mates.

Ashfur would be better, I hate Bramblestar and how he treats Squirflight (abusive relationship), and Ashfur is willing to do anything for her. Even though that makes Ashfur a little obsessive he won't try to override her and control her if they were in a relationship like Bramble does to her. Even though Ash is a bit evil, he's only like that for her. You can't possibly change my mind lol Ashfur x Squirrelflight foreverrrr! And it's not really Ashfur's fault that he's obsessive over her, she used him to get to Bramble and Ash thought they would actually be a thing and he's ready to die for her, after all she was more affectionate to him than she ever was Bramble.

Yeah, my personal opinion is neither are the 'better' mate, they have their perks, and their massive massive flaws.

Bramble is just full on an abuser, not physically but, I'd consider him an emotional and even verbal one. They fight all the time, not even just in Squirrelflight's hope [No matter what people want to claim], even as someone who has yet to read past series one, I already know they argued a lot about Hawkfrost in The New Prophecy [which, Squirrel was right to be suspicious of Hawkfrost.] They argued about the three [Now I understand Squirreflight did a wrong thing, but when you look at how Bramble treats his actual litter of kits and even the three after the secret, it doesn't make him out to be a good cat as a whole]

His 'perks' are that he, isn't a creep I guess? I guess he occasionally treats her good as well but, it is hard to find real perks with this dude, even outside of his relationship [Like previous mentioned, his parenting skills, and don't even get me started on him as a leader, any shred of credibility for the spot he had is gone.]

Ashfur, oh Ashfur. You were just a nice guy, no genuinely, from what I can see, he was a nice dude who got his heart broken, not to say Squirrel is a villain though. She did love him, but loved Bramble more and her feelings faded for Ash, in all honesty, neither were wrong in the relationship. Up until the whole Hawkfrost murdering Firestar situation, I know the fire scene is the big moment for him, but killing your ex's dad because she broke up with you is way more than a bit messed up. And if that didn't cross the line, then him trying to kill her 3 'kits' did, the only reason he stopped was because he found a new, 'bigger' way to upset her. Let's not even get into Arc 7 because oh boy, he get's even worse there from what I can tell.

He's actually a similar case to Bramble where he HAD perks before his big moment. [He was a nice dude, while Bramble was a competent deputy] but all of those perks slowly got burnt away into ash as the books went on.

So, for the people who don't want to read my essay, neither are good for Squirrel, one was a good deputy who became an abusive mate, neglectful father, and a horrible leader. The other was a chill ex who was still in love with the girl who didn't love him in the same way he did, but then became a creepy, in a sense stalker at this point who is willing to kill and possess her family to get what he wants.

Also, added on note to the Bramble situation, some people defend Bramble by saying fighting is normal, it is not. Arguing is what is normal, the occasional argument here and there will happen, but fights, especially at the rate that Bramble and Squirrel have them are not normal, and is not something that should be normalized.
