He got on the other side of her and put his paws on her to hold her down.

Fang gripped Silver's paw in his mouth, braced one paw on her chest, and gave a sharp tug.
Silver screeched as her shoulder popped back into place and she lay there, panting.

The fox sat and curled his tail around his paws. "You both know what a killed crayfish smells like," he began, "but living ones smell slightly different. See if you can scent any."

Minnow sniffed the air, trying to smell crayfish. "I can't smell any." He said finally.

Silver sniffed deeply, then opened her mouth to catch a better scent. "I think I smell one!"

"It's this way!" She started bounding across the rocks.

The scent grew stronger, and she suddenly stopped, tail drooping.

Minnow stopped, he was a bit behind her, letting her do her hunt.

She turned away from the decaying crustacean, padding back to her brother and Fang. "It's dead," she mewed sullenly.

Minnow was silent.

"Don't worry," Fang said, sounding impressed. "You caught that scent from all the way downstream." he lifted his tail and pointed back downstream, to where they had started. "You've got a good nose."
Silver gave her chest an embarrassed lick before turning to Minnow. "At least you were smart enough not to go chasing crowfood, huh?"

He shook his head. "I honestly just want to go home right now. I'm tired."

They arrived back at camp and Fang collapsed in his nest next to Aatu.

With a grunt he closed his eyes, quickly falling asleep.

Fire was in their den, sleeping soundly.

Fire stirred as she started to wake.

Bolt's eyes flew open and his quickly rose to his paws.

Fire twisted her head to look at him quizzically. "What is it?" she mewed.

"Just..." Bolt said looking around seeing there was nothing bad going on. "Just a bad dream."

She touched her nose to his cheek. "Whatever is giving you nightmares," she mewed softly, a comforting purr in her throat. "I shall rip off their limbs and slow-roast them to cinders." She stood. "Lets go hunting."

This made Bolt feel better and he nodded.

She started to pad through the tunnel and stopped.

She backed up, moving to the side so he could pass. "I think I'll stay behind."

Bolt ran out to go find some food.

Fire sat down and awkwardly started to groom her chest fur.

Bolt was searching until he found a mouse which he killed with ease. Putting it near a rock, he left it there wide open.

As it was dark, an owl spotted the prey, swooping silently down.

Bolt jumped up and grabbed the owl, bringing it down and killing it.

Fire looked at the entrance again, and started to walk through it, stopping as she did before and turning back with a sigh. She curled up to wait for Bolt's return.

Bolt came back with his mouse and owl.

She let out a soft purr as she heard his approach.

He stopped at the entrance for a moment and then walked in.

"An owl," she blinked.

He nodded and put o it down.

She bent her head and began eating, tearing into the owl's flesh and chest nsuming nearly half of it before pausing and looking up at her mate. She blinked and looked down at the half-devoured owl, the meat slightly charred in her enthusiasm. "I..."she trailed off, confused at her actions.

"You don't need to say anything." He said. "Just finish it."

She lowered her head and continued eating, although at a much slower pace than before. Hunger sated, she pushed the last of the owl to him.

Rat flicked her ears as she heard paw steps of something unfamiliar, she lifted her head, peeking through the brambles. "H-Hello?" She whispered, flicking her tail so it peeked out of a bush. This would make it easier to see where she was, just in case she startled whoever was coming.

"No," she mewed. "Look at this!" She waved with her tail for him to jump up on the ledge beside her.

Curious, he jumped up next to her and looked. "What is it?"

She stared at the small hole in the rock. There was a small sound emanating from it. "Do you hear that?"

"Lets go check it out!" He said.

She stared at him. "Can you fit?" the hole in the rock was only about a mouselength across.

"Watch me." He ran to the hole and got down as low as he could to squeeze through, but not being able to fit, he turned back to face her. "Never mind."

She saw his face and started laughing.

He shook his fur out.

"Y-you're--c-covvered--" she managed to choke out , nearly falling off the ledge. "Face!"

He pawed his face and looked at it. "What?" He said. "It's all over my face?"

SHe gasped and nodded.

His face flushed in embarrassment and turned his head from her,then ran to go wash it off.

She raced after her brother, still laughing. "Just, look!" She said when they reached the water's edge. The mud had made a near perfect circle of dark fur around his face.

"Ugh!" He threw some on her before washing it off his fur.

She squeaked and shook her head to get the mud off, trying to rub it off with a forepaw, but only succeeded in spreading it in a long smear down her face. "Is it off?"

He looked at her after he finished getting the mud of his face and he held in a laugh when he saw her face. "No. It's not."

she narrowed her eyes and marched forward, rubbing her face on his and getting them both equally smeared. "Now stay here and clean that while I explore the cave!" she yowled, racing off.

"This is a really big cave..."

"Yeah. Hey, what's this?" She was stopped before a long white bone, about a tail length or longer.

"What's what?" He asked before feeling the bone. "Oh cool!"

"It's gotta be too big for a bone."

"I don't know. It could be."

"What has a bone this big?" she asked, then found another one like it nearby.

"Mayne a bigger cat." He said. "Or maybe a wolf."

She nearly crashed into a round white bone, at least twice her size. "Hey I think I found it's head!" She padded around the huge skull. "Something's wrong with it though."

"Let me see!" He said running up to the bone.

"There's no muzzle," she mewed, placing a paw on the tiny nose hole. "It's all flat."

She tapped the silver object with a paw, and something sloshed inside. "What is it?" noticing a black nub on the side, she pawed at that.

"I don't know." He said, "But it's awful and these two," he put the two kits on his back. "Reek with the smell."

"Wheee....." Silver started sliding off and Fang caught her quickly.
"We'd best carry them by their scruffs," Fang said, holding Silver by hers. "Less chance of injury."

"Funnnnn..." Minnow began to roll off, but Aatu caught him by his scruff and started walking back.

Fang padded back to camp, seeing Grass. "Where's Feather?" he asked, not seeing her anywhere.

Crayfish padded out of the cave. "What's--ew!" She ran back in "Wolf! Bird! Get out here!"

"Why?" Wolf asked walking out and immediately regretting it. "Oh that smell!" He put a paw to his nose.

Grass was coming back with Feather.

"Fire water?" Wolf asked.

"It is poison," Feather mewed, motioning for Fang and Aatu to set the kits down. "It makes you dizzy and..." she trailed off, watching her adventurous kits. "Confuses the mind." She sniffed Minnow and Silver, much to Silver's giggles, and continued. "They are lucky they drank no more than a lap. Any more and they might have died." She flicked her tail at Crayfish. "Pad their bedding well."

Minnow was laughing and trying to walk, but would collapse after a few steps. But that didn't stop him from doing it again. "Big white birds in the sky."

Feather flicked her tail at Fang. "Bring me some yarrow." He padded off to do so as she bent towards the giggling Silver. "Aatu, bring Minnow over here please."

Fang returned with the yarrow and Feather placed the leaves in front of the kits. "Eat these."
"Yum Food!" Silver mewed, trying to eat them and lapping at the stone next to them.

"Yuck." He turned away from them.

"Eat these herbs," Feather mewed softly in Minnow's ear, "or I shall force them down your throat." It was unlikely that her kit's drunken brain had forgotten his mother's authority.

Silver finally started lapping up the leaves.

Fire paced in the small den, walking in circles with her flank against the wall.

"Hey Bolt!" Fang called, and Fire roared a bolt of flames out of the tunnel, making Fang yelp and leap away. "I-I'm going!"

Fang looked with wide eyes at the flames that continued to shoot from the caves mouth. "Wh...what happened?"

"Lets not worry about that right now." He said. "Why did you call me."

"I was just checking up on you guys." He continued to glance at the flames. "Seriously what is going on?"

"She's just in one of those angry states." He said looking back. "Oh great. She just burn the the falcon I got for her to ashes." He walked back to the cave.

"uh.." Fang just looked even more confused. "What did you do to make her like that?"

"Wait!" Fang yelped, grabbing bolt's tail to stop him just as more flames poured out. "I have an idea."
