Why does Hollyleaf get the hate?!

okay, I know people are going to hate on me for this, BUT WHAT'S THE PROBLEM WITH HOLLYLEAF?! She was a great character! Why does she always get the hate?

1. She was quite a strong leader during kithood, especially when her and her littermates fell into the fox hole.
2. She was a great warrior and always helped her clanmates!

3. Even when she was an Medicine cat and was always struggling, she kept trying!

4. She actually had some right to kill Ashfur! He threatened several cats, and for what? They were his clanmates!

5. She when she finally came back to her clan, look how much she helped them! Without her, they wouldn't have survived the battle with Sol and Windclan!

6. She saved Ivypool during The Great Battle!

And these are only to name a few! If you do hate Hollyleaf, just post why! I don't believe she should hated, but there could be some possible points out there.

She also potentially had great potential to learning and getting into clan politics because she was so into the warrior code. Had she lived we could have gotten a cat interested in clan politics and history. She could have been a deputy or leader had things turned out differently.


It would have been a unique mind set compared to some of the other on going plots and drives for other pov characters.

Exactly! And unlike the other Mary Sue main characters, she had to WORK for her place in the clan!

yup, she showed a part of medicine cat duties that don't really get shown. The parts where someone had to do something gross for medicine. they developed a reason why Holly wouldn't be fit for a medicine cat. She found some duties gross, she struggled with memorizing, and she would get distracted by enjoying the warrior apprentice training.

I completely agree with this. When I read Power Of Three, I remember literally not blinking an eye at her killing Ashfur. Yes, I know it was ultimately unnecessary as she revealed the secret anyways in the end, but he literally tried to kill her and her siblings? Over a breakup?

She was also super interesting as a character, when they didn't dumb her down to "oH yOu MuSt FoLlOw ThE coDE." Her interactions with those she wronged and how she forgave and was forgiven by them were really good, and it would be so cool to see her look at the code she once held in such high regard and realize its flaws.

Hollyleaf is an incredibly interesting character. Not one of my favorites, but one of the better ones. She's strong, determined, loyal, but she also follows the warrior code to a terrible fault, which is more than you could say for almost all of the characters in the series nowadays.

She did have a reason to kill Ashfur. He was going to expose her and her siblings for having two mothers who lied to all of ThunderClan. However, this is exactly where I find fault with her character:

Perhaps she wanted to tell her Clan on her own. Perhaps she didn't want someone who tried to kill her family to be the one to reveal the big secret. Even so, she killed Ashfur to protect them and then turned around and did exactly the opposite. She exposed Crowfeather, Squirrelflight, and Leafpool at a Gathering, of all places. Ashfur probably wouldn't have gone that far, most likely only telling Brambleclaw or at the worst ThunderClan. But Hollyleaf exposed her family at a Gathering. I'm not getting "loyal, love my family, trying to protect them" vibes, I'm getting "extreme hypocrisy" vibes. That's the only reason why I don't adore her. I don't hate her, but she isn't one of my favorites, that's for sure.

I think that if you look at her state of mind at the time, her hypocrisy makes more sense. First, she believes as one of the Three, the entire future of the clans depends on her. Second, the one thing she has always believed in her whole life is the warrior code, yet her very existence defies it, in not only one, but two ways. Finally, she was then almost killed by someone, who then threatened to reveal her ancestry to her clan, which she believed would guarantee her exile. This rising stress and trauma erupted, and she killed Ashfur out of fear for her future. Then, her hatred of herself and her parents, as well as Squirrelflight, drove her to expose them all, and then she tried killing Leafpool, before backing off and running away.

The point of her character is that she IS a hypocrite, and does some terrible, nonsensical things. Her world is turned upside down, and while Lion and Jay can handle the things they learn, Hollyleaf can't, and she almost goes insane. She doesn't know what to do and can't think clearly, and so when she returns to calm, she must come to terms for what she's done and make amends with the people she hurts.

hollyleaf tries to be the best cat possible. some think(me) she would do anything in her power to get love, and she kills cats to make sure the warrior code is right. also, she was a big baby when she ran off to the tunnels. she only thought of herself, and why she should be the third cat.

She is a raging religious woman who believes she should be in charge, everybody should be punished for every little thing but she can do whatever she wants without consequences. I'd hate her in real life, so I hate her in a book.

I totally agree with this! 99% of the "connect Firestar with all of the Good/Bad Characters in the series" say that Hollyleaf is a bad character and I am always like "What duh..."
