What do you think about Darktail? Was he right trying to destroy the clans to avenge his mother and kill his father who betrayed them? Or was he wrong, and just evil for not a good enough reason?? What are your thoughts??:squee:

!!!POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR A VISION OF SHADOWS BELOW!!!

Darktail was NOT justified in his actions.

I can understand being mad at your dad and wanting to get back at him, but attacking SkyClan and nearly destroying it - a Clan which had NOTHING to do with Onestar and had no knowledge of him - was already ten steps too far. And then he went after ShadowClan, tricked them into joining his "Kin" and driving out Rowanstar, and nearly drove the Clan cats to their destruction likes horses leading a carriage. Again, ShadowClan did not affiliate themselves with Onestar and therefore did not deserve to get wrapped in Darktail's furious rampage.

I get being irritated with your father for the things he's done, but that does not condone mass destruction of two large groups of cats. Darktail took his revenge too far, and he deserved what he got. If he'd only attempted to expose Onestar for having a kittypet mate, and ONLY expose Onestar, I would say he had a right to do so. But trying to destroy the entire Clan population is not the answer.

In all honesty, I believe both Onestar and Darktail's mother are also slightly at fault: Onestar for lying to his mate and then abandoning her when she had his son, and Darktail's mother for feeding Darktail the anger she held. But in the end, he could have chosen to go a different path, and simply chosen to be a better cat than his father, and therefore this places all the blame at his feet. So, no, his past absolutely does not justify his actions, and he got what he deserved in the end.

Hm...

Did Onestar do something wrong - Yes
Does wrongdoing deserve punishment - Yes, spare the rod spoil the child
So does Onestar deserve punishment - Yes
Can that punishment affect others - Yes, for example getting grounded; your friends can't see you
Did the clans specifically deserve it? - No, they did nothing wrong
In punishing the clans was Onestar punished - Yes, it was one of Onestar's things
Is it okay to punish the clans - Yes, see above
Did Onestar deserve death - No, killing someone is wrong
Did Darktail have a good reason - Yes, because Onestar did a wrong thing & needed to be punished
Was his actual reason good - No, revenge is never a good reason
Did Darktail go too far - Yes, killing someone is wrong

Was Darktail justified - Yes, but it was wrong because Darktail didn't use that justification, went to far, & was focused on revenge

Also, I don't think Darktail is evil

How exactly do you compare stopping someone from seeing their friends as punishment and destroying the clans/causing multiple cats to die for one cat's mistake?

I feel like "Was Darktail jusified?" "Was Darktail doing the right thing?" "Did the clans deserve to pay" & "Did Onestar deserve death?" are all different questions that need to be independent
