"A Thousand Lifetimes In Space"

[Captain]

The current year is 2050 and you wake up in your home, starting your day out like any normal routine - except something catches your eye as you collect your mail that morning. A small, white cardboard box rests in your mailbox, which was usual, considering the you never got packages and you certainly haven’t ordered anything online. Curious, you bring the box back into your home and open it. Inside, there are two items: A folded piece of paper and a cassette. You examine the cassette, wondering how these still even existed is this age. Luckily, you had a radio that accepted cassettes, which you questioned why you owned that too.

But whatever.
You slide the small, white square into the slot and click play. Several silent seconds pass before a couple voices finally emerge.

[Captain]: Hello? Hello? Is this thing on?
[Second In Command]: It’s recording, sir. You can began.
[Captain]: Very well. *ahem* Greetings, [y/n]! I know that this must be confusing and wondering how we know your name, but in your luck, you have been chosen to be one of our first passengers on the ‘New Hope’ which is a brand-new, high tech space transportation. As you know, out there in space, there are many wonderful opportunities for new life and new homes for the residents here on Earth. We have asked you and six others to participate in this journey to a possible new-home for people and animals. Please read the following the paper that was sent to you with this message and we hope to see you soon!


Taking a moment to process the short, but interesting words on the cassette, so then grab the piece of paper on the table that you had set aside. On the paper, it states the address of where you go to start your journey. One suitcase full of clothes, hygienic supplies and other personal belongings that you wish to take along is required and a small carry-on such as a satchel, backpack or purse is optional. It also shows a picture of what the ship looks like. A cafeteria, personal bedrooms for each passenger, a gym, greenhouse, infirmary, kitchen and even a weaponry is included on this vessel. On the bottom of the page states in red letters.

Attention! Since this spacecraft is in experimental mode and required to suit both human and animal bodies, we do allow you to bring your beloved pet if you do own one. Dogs, cats, lizards, birds, etc. No large animals such as livestock please. Various types of food for your pet is stored in the cafeteria.
After a long thought, you decide to accept this offer and pack up your things, heading out to the address stated on the paper - which is a large institute with the ship that was shown on the paper. This was your new beginning. As you walked, you were greeted by a woman at the front desk and were given your room key and the ship and directed to your room. You were asked to sleep in your sleeping pod in your room until the ship woke you up when the time was right.

However, he thinks of himself as ugly, so using recent hologram tech along with something he programmed himself, he has a small device he keeps on him that makes him look different
Altered looks: Looks like a human-dragon mixture. He has red scaled that cover his body instead of skin, and his hair instead is a thick mane of scales that protrude slightly from his head and neck. he also looks about an inch taller, and a bit better built. He can also use the hologram to make it look like he is breathing fire, although its only an illusion, of course.
He mostly stays in his altered form, but if specifically asked he will show what he really looks like.
Personality: Whenever he uses his altered looks, he speaks like a knight from the medieval times. normally acting chivalrous, he is very kind and soft hearted, willing to help anyone out. However, he is extremely introverted, and prefers to be on his computer programming stuff rather than talking to people. He can get somewhat depressed sometimes because he thinks so poorly of himself.

Backstory: Grew up with parents that only insulted him, and he believed that he was a scourge to the world. growing up, he liked programming computers, and started at the age of 5, and is now one of the best computer programmers on the planet. A loud beeping noise made Raine’s eyes open and look around, wincing at the bright white light that all she could see for a few seconds before her vision adjusted and she was met with a clear glass surface in the front of her face. She reached up and pressed her hand up against the glass, the surface cold under her fingertips as a slight whimper made her jump. Scruffy, her large, brown-furred dog was laying beside her in the sleep pod, lifting his head and looking at her with a tilt of his head. Raine stroked his head, smiling slightly at her canine companion. “It’s okay, buddy. I’m here for you.” She murmured and a short, abrupt clicking sound made they both jump as the glass hatch of the pod opened up and cold air rushed to their bodies. Raine sat up, hugging her knees as she looked around at the room.

“Attention to all passengers of ‘The New Hope’. Please take caution as you are waking up, your bodies still might be weakened from the long amounts of sleep.” The familiar voice of the Captain from the holotape sounded over the intercom around the ship, “Once adjusted to your surroundings, please proceed to the cafeteria to feed you and/or your companion. Make sure to also introduce yourselves to one another! It will be several days before we meet our destination, so enjoy the safe accommodations of the ship while you can!” His voice was strangely friendly, but seemed to have a hint of mystery behind it.

Scruffy leapt out of the pod, sniffing around as Raine quietly swung her legs over the side and stood up, stumbling for a moment as she regained balance. Everything around them was strangely quiet, but the young adult focused on getting around. She went to the front door of her room and scanned her keycard on the metal door. The door slid open and Raine peeked out, looking down the hall with the other six doors that was with other passengers. The short girl watched as her large, long-furred dog padded out into the hallway, his tail wagging slightly as he gave a short bark, urging her to follow him. Raine grabbed her warm, fuzzy sweatshirt and slipped it on and hurried after Scruffy as they both went to the cafeteria. They were the first ones to arrive and the smell of food made them both look around eagerly. Food was laid out in plastic containers on a table - such as bread, fruit and various types of nuts (food that can be eaten in space as is). There were also containers full of food for animals with clear-printed labels. Raine went over and picked up two containers full strawberries and one with dog food.

The two first passengers on ‘The New Hope’ took a seat at one of the tables in the corner of the room, eating to themselves. Raine couldn’t help but glance over at the door, curious, buy shy about meeting her fellow passengers.

Feeling himself regain consciousness, Nova opened his eyes and looked at his room from inside of the pod. Opening the pod up, he stepped out, his muscles a little weak from being asleep. stumbling around, he saw his backpack and his side bag. Grabbing his side bag, he took his holographic appearance alteration machine (H.A.A.M) out and turned it on, however it didnt turn on at first. grumbling, he got out a fresh set of batteries and put them inside the machine, turning it on and the machine gave a slight murr as it started up. slowly, from head to toe, a hologram was placed around Nova's body, and instead of looking like the human he normally did, his skin became red with scales, and his teeth and fingernails turned into fangs and claws as he turned into his fantasy dragon character that he preffered to walk around as.

With his side bag ready, and the haam on, Nova departed for the cafeteria, opening the door to his room with his keycard and going out into the hall, using the signs located around to find the cafeteria. Once her enetered, he noticed that someone was sitting at the other end of the cafeteria, although he didnt say anything yet, since they were probably a little curious why he looked like a dragon character. Going over to the food, Nova grabbed just a plain slice of bread, as he wasnt very hungry. sitting at the table adjacent to Raine, he started chewing on the bread, waiting for something to happen.

Raine’s eyes widened as one of the passengers walked in, looking almost non-human like. It was quite weird and she was intrigued by this. This was obviously some type of technology. She knew that they made things like that back on Earth, but she never had the funds for something like that. The young girl couldn’t help, but stare at him for awhile as he kept to himself. Rain ate another strawberry and looked down at Scruffy, who was hungrily eating his dry food. The large dog lifted his head and locked his gaze on the other person in the room. At least, he thought it was a person. He gave a short bark, but Raine shushed him, not wanting to attract attention. Scruffy looked up at her, but then gave another growl-like huff, padding away from her and over to Nova that wasn’t that far away from them. Raine quietly tried to call him back over, being the shy one that was scared of embarrassing herself. However, her dog was not afraid to explore. He walked over to the dragon-looking person and sniffed him, looking up with a slight tilt of his head, confused and curious.

"Yes it is" Nova said in his deep friendly voice. "I prefer to program, and this is something of my own creation." He said, taking a bite of the loaf of bread. "Might I inquire your name, fellow passenger?" He asked in his chivalrous tone.

“Wow! You made that yourself..” Raine mentioned, speechless for a moment and felt her face grow warm at her reaction, “My name is Raine. Raine Foxen, to be exact.” Her tone was shy and she looked down at her hands with a small smile, “It’s a pleasure to meet you. With that technology, you must be a genius. What’s your name?” Scruffy gave a huff from under the table and rested his muzzle on one of his owner’s shoes, closing his eyes and resting there for the time-being.

"Well hello lady Raine" Nova said, giving a bow. "It is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Nova. I didnt make this myself, however. I had some help from a dear friend of mine. I prefer not to show my actual face, as I feel I am not worthy of the world." He said, acting like it was normal. "I guess whoever planned out this whole space ship thing wanted a good programmer to be on it. I would have no idea why though."

Raine blushed slightly at how gentlemanly he acted towards her, calling her a lady. “It’s certainly a pleasure to meet such a gentleman as yourself, Nova.” She said, smiling at him lightly. At his mention of not being worthy of this world. “Well, you must have some purpose, since you were chosen as one of the people to go on this wild ride. I think you are quite nice and deserve more credit.” Her tone was sincere and heart-warming, “Maybe they wanted a good programmer in case of something bad happening, I’m not sure.” Raine gave a little laugh and looked down at her Scruffy, her smile faltering, “I don’t even know why I’m here. I’m useless on Earth, how could I have any purpose here?” She looked sad for a moment, thinking back on her past.

Nova acted surprised. "Lady Raine! do not say such things about yourself! You have already managed to cheer me up, I am sure there are plenty of things you can do." he said, pondering on the thought of it.

Raine’s heartbeat seemed to quicken in both excitement and fear at his words - wanting to spend more time with her. It had been a long time since anyone had told her such things. For years, it had just been Scruffy and her in their run-down apartment. The young adult knew though how people were and feared that she would be abandoned by Nova - just like the others. Raine shook her head, dismissing such morbid thoughts and focused on the positives. Her face felt warm with another blush as he bowed to her like a prince would to a princess. Get your head out of the clouds, Foxen.. She scolded herself and looked over at her new-found friend with a soft, light-hearted smile before turning back to the magnificent view outside the spaceship window. Raine rested her hands against the cold glass surface as she looked out upon the endless void of space. “It’s so beautiful, don’t you think?” She asked Nova, hoping that he would join her while admiring the beauty of it all.

For years, it had just been Scruffy and her in their run-down apartment. The young adult knew though how people were and feared that she would be abandoned by Nova - just like the others. Raine shook her head, dismissing such morbid thoughts and focused on the positives. Her face felt warm with another blush as he bowed to her like a prince would to a princess. Get your head out of the clouds, Foxen.. She scolded herself and looked over at her new-found friend with a soft, light-hearted smile before turning back to the magnificent view outside the spaceship window. Raine rested her hands against the cold glass surface as she looked out upon the endless void of space. “It’s so beautiful, don’t you think?” She asked Nova, hoping that he would join her while admiring the beauty of it all.

"It is quite the spectacle to view" Nova said, joining her by the window as he gaed out at the stars. "I am quite inpressed with how much effort went into this ship. Must have taken a few years to build to be this luxurious." He said, thinking casually.

“Yeah, it was pretty vague though about all the information we were given when we were contacted for this experiment.” Raine said, gazing around at the vast sea of white dots around them. She looked over at Nova. “So, is there any reason you actually agreed to come on this ship? You leave anyone behind - like parents, siblings, girlfriend?” Now that she had said that, it sounded weird, but she was just trying to strike up conversation to get to know him better. Scruffy gave a wide yawn beside them, his tail wagging back and forth contently. Raine brushed a few loose strands of hair out of her eyes and tucked them behind her ear, smiling slightly at Nova.

Raine sighed and rested her head on her arms, murmuring to herself before looking out the window of the spaceship once again. “I wasn’t the most friendliest of people back on Earth - people didn’t want to be around me because of my issues with depression and such. I never felt accepted there and going on this journey, I somehow thought that this place could give me another chance at having a life where I felt truly happy..” Her voice trailed off as she rose to her feet and gave a sigh, “If I talk anymore about this, I’ll just scare you away just like all the others. I’ll see you around, Nova. I hope that we can chat again sometime.” The young girl whistled to signal Scruffy to follow as she walked out of the cafeteria and down the hall to her personal room, swiping her key card to open the door. She walked inside, leaving the door open as she sat down on the windowsill of the large window that gave her a view of the stars. Scruffy whimpered and rested his muzzle on her leg, knowing that his owner wasn’t doing okay at the moment.

Several minutes passed as Raine thought to herself while sitting and looking out the window, peering at the endless wonder of stars. She finally stood up after a while, telling her canine companion to sit and stay here while she took care of something. The young adult strolled out of her room and walked down the echoing hallway until she found Nova’s room. She peered in at him working on his laptop and took a reassured sigh before stepping into his room with her hands laced together. Raine looked down at her shoes, feeling rather shy. “Hi, Nova..” She began, trying to search for the right words, “I apologize about just leaving from before. I’m not the most social person and various events of my past has caused me to become depressed or irritated now and then. I really like you - it seems that you understand what I go through and I feel like we can be great friends. I hope you can forgive me.” Raine’s voice was true and gentle, trying not to stutter in her speech.
