“have you ever seen such an act? come to the performance of a lifetime, and see the greatness of the cirque de clair de lune*! watch our performers twist and twirl in the air, stomp on stilts, and even tame a lion. you will not believe your eyes, but do not waste your time. we will be here for a mere week before we must leave, so watch our show quickly!”

once the ringmaster has stopped.speaking, you see a dark puff of smoke around them as they disappear from sight. currently, you are hidden within a tent, preparing yourself for the circus. the other performers bustle around you as the tent buzzes with excitement. nervousness can be seen on the faces of your friends, both new and old, but the aura around you is one that cannot be denied. everybody is ready.

as described, this will be a circus roleplay. but, although this is a circus, i will not accept any ‘freaks.’ for example, a wolf person. your character can have special attributes, such as being a snake charmer, but this is not a freak show. please also keep every act a variety. i will not accept any doubles of acts, unless it is something you would need a partner for, like the trapeze, or a clown. please keep all romance within the roleplay to a minimum, thanks!

Scarlet is a lithe, graceful looking woman with slight curves. Her eyes are a deep blue which pairs well with her natural, wavy blonde hair. She isn't very tall, but isn't short either, standing about 5 feet and five inches. She rarely smiles unless she's performing or practicing. Scarlet wears red lipstick that pops out from her pale face alongside gold and red face paint to complete the look.

In her free time, she'll likely be sitting in a chair or on her bed reading from a leather-bound book without a title engraved in the cover, or writing in a journal with a light red cover.

august is shy, to say the least. he is anxious around all people, fearing the dangers they may hold within. it is very difficult to earn his trust, and he will flinch away from any unwanted touch. august does not ride in cars, as when he was little, he was struck by one, becoming trapped beneath it. the incident caused a large fear of vehicles to arise. although, when august is out performing, with the stage name of apollo, he feels free of all worries and just allows himself to feel the thrill of the aerial silks. he is very cautious and knows of the dangers his act can have. august is a man of little words, but when he is comfortable around you, he will talk your ear off.

He’s a calm, quiet guy, rarely talks but to his snakes he’s a big talker. A classy guy especially when he speaks but is a fast speaker when he is talking in his native language which is Spanish. Fluent in many languages and a rather shy guy. It’s kinda a shock why he is here. But he’s here due to his friends last dying request, which was rather odd but he honors it and he’s quite happy where he is. He’s a excellent cook but sucks at making normal conversation, he’s too shy, blushes very easily and tends to let his snakes do the talking which makes him sound a bit crazy but it’s how he can really talk with others. Once you get to know him he’s a air head flirt, a romantic guy and a really loyal and kind friend. Just beware of tiny, she gets jealous when you get too close. sighing, a pale boy padded into the tent. his hair hung low over one eye, keeping the dark hue hidden. the black boots upon his feet made a tiny thump with every step, hands shoved into his hoodie's pockets. cracking his neck, he scanned the tent for his crate of supplies, staying silent. all he wanted to do was practice for the show tomorrow. his routine needed some review, and he had to be sure that his prosthetic was working normally, unlike last time.
he flinched just thinking about it.
a huff was released before the aerialist was grabbing his outfit, silks, and container of crushed-up chalk. he made his way towards the large stadium in which the circus would be performed. come on, august. you can do this. don't think of last time, the boy, august, thought. he ran a hand through his hair before setting up the silks. before raising them up, he made sure they were fastened enough to where they would not come undone. then, he turned off the regular lights and switched the spotlight on.

Scarlet sat still in the tent she called her room, her supplies hung up and scattered over the floor. The only movement from the young woman was the scratching of a sharpened pencil against the rough, pale beige paper inside her red book. Eric hair fell in front of her eyes briefly, shielding the blue pools from the bright light coming from her lamp while allowing her to still see the paper. However, the thing stands bothered her and she moved her hair back behind her ear with the hand she held her pencil in, pausing as she looked at the page. The red book was where she planned out her act, always bringing in new techniques to freshen up the performance and challenge herself. Confident in the act she had pulled together, she only had to practice it one more time hopefully, before she could practice the newer moves she had come up with. She placed the book down and changed into her practice leotard, a simple white piece without any embellishments.

Grabbing her two hoops and the wire, she made her way to the main tent. The flap was closed, but she peered in anyway to watch August practice. She gently placed down her rings and the wire and took a seat, watching his practice with a very slight smile.

august changed into his costume and covered his hands in chalk before twirling the silk around them, lifting himself up. he climbed higher and higher, being sure to watch his prosthetic leg. once he found himself to be high enough off the ground, he twisted his body to pull the silk around his abdomen and legs. after getting a tight enough grip, he let himself unravel from the hold of the silks, but caught himself with his legs, cautiously keeping a tight hold of the aerial silk.
his breathing was heavy, yet he smiled to himself after realizing that he had finally done the most difficult trick for him to master. as he swung to and fro in the air, he pulled himself up and slowly tightened a knot in the two strands of silk. with a nod to himself, august licked his lips and tested the newly-made ring. he sat within it and pressed a button on his special prosthetic to lower himself to the ground, grinning.
"yes!" he cheered, fistbumping the air. august jumped off the silks and moved over to replace the prosthetic with his normal one, fixing his hair.

jamie is a very spunky girl, with an extremely stubborn nature. she never backs down without a fight and finds it hard to let go. she’s often a bit clingy and overprotective, and isn’t even close to being shy or quiet. she’s quite talkative, really, and radiates excitement. she is always helpful when it comes to emotional support, and is often the shoulder you cry on. she takes on a great deal, and doesn’t show how she’s feeling. she’s got a lot on her shoulders and secretly struggles to hold her optimism, but few notice her struggles. she’s the sort you never see cry, and if you do; something is seriously wrong. jamie has slight anger issues and gets mad at others easy, occasionally to the point where she’ll get into a fight. she hates to be overlooked or looked down upon, and fights hard to be a part of the circus.

He thinks a bit if he should go say hi than just eventually turns away walking by the training tent enjoying the fresh air.

Aaron was face to face with one of the trucks looking at the large bolder words and the handle to pull herself up and in. The large semi truck labeled "Handle with care, living and/or dangerous cargo" stood in a the middle of a yard of trucks and vans all coming and going every now and than. Stepping into the bed of the truck was like stepping into another world, a darker and more cold world beyond eyes. It was the part of the circus you didn't want to see or they wouldn't let you see. As she let her eyes focus as she stepped into the dark and fumbled around for a moment as they adjusted she could see the iron bars and crates linking each side of the truck bed. At the very back was a large cage with blackened bars and a door sealed tightly. Within where the three lions she often... Tamed. with an uneven huff she walked to the back of the space and watched the three beasts sleep. It was all they did if they weren't training and it was sad to watch. She picked up one of the three plastic bowls off to her left labled with each of their names. There was one for Apollo. The large dominant male, and the others for both April and Aria the females. Filled with meat scraps and the occasional fruit filling she tapped the cage gently. Springing to life the lions arose from their slumber cuffing at each other's ears and rolling to get up. A slender hole at the mouth of the cage allowed Aaron to gently slip each piece of meat through without getting her hand ripped right off her arm.

A young girl stood in her tent, looking at herself in the mirror in front of her. She sighed unhappily, running a hair through her very short golden brown hair. She flipped the part onto he other side, the loose curls moving in the direction she pulled. Jamie stared a moment longer before shaking her head and removing the new stage outfit she was asked to try on, and changing back into a short black skater-skirt and pale yellow sweater with a black and white flannel beneath. She pulled on a pair boots, and headed towards the stadium to watch the others practise. Jamie knew she definitely needed some work on her straight-jacket act, but she figured it could wait until tomorrow. She wanted to see how the others were getting along first.
Jamie made her way to the stadium, spotting a few other performers and giving them a friendly smile. Jamie hadn’t been a part of the circus for very long at all, and she was quite surprised to see how the age differences between her and he other performers, though she hoped it wouldn’t affect any of their performances.

august jumped, startled, at the sound of clapping. he blinked and nodded, smiling towards scarlet. his eyes brightened before he moved to get his silks down from the hooks. brown hair fell down over his face, but he brushed it away and waved a quick farewell to scarlet, not wanting to distract her from her practice.
"good luck," august said quietly, grabbing his stuff and padding away. the boy bit his lip and shivered once he was outside. it was nearing the time of winter, so the temperature was dropping. august rubbed his legs, which were still uncovered as he had not changed back into his normal outfit, and shook silently. his tattoo shone in the beaming sun, eyes glimmering.
finally, he reached his tent and changed back into his own clothing. august grabbed a book and went back out to find a place to read it, also picking up earbuds and his phone to play music. as he dragged himself towards the forestry near the tents, the boy spots jamie near the stadium. he hadn't seen her as he was leaving. she's nearly invisible, august thought.
he kept on moving before finding a tree to settle down under. leaves crunched under him, an icy breeze blowing. the aerialist put on his earbuds and began to play music, humming along while he read.

Scarlet strung up the wire, barely able to connect it to the ring that was just a few inches out of reach from her fingertips. She managed to loop the wire through and clasp it to the ring, tugging on it to ensure it wouldn't snap during her practice. Climbing down from the catwalk, she grabbed her two rings and began the tedious work of looping the connecting wire through them and manage to attach it to the wire that hung quite a few feet above her head. She couldn't take them up to the catwalk; the thing wasn't designed for large objects, however light they might be. She grabbed onto the large rope and began climbing up it with relative ease, the hoops looped around her right arm. Using her legs to stay stable, she let go of the rope and hooked them up to the ring, bending almost completely over backward to loop the connector through the hoops. It probably would have been easier to manage had there been some stagehands to help out with setting up the acts, but the Ringleader hadn't made much effort to get any thus far. Keeps us from becoming lazy like those second-rate performers from Hollywood. She thought, dropping to the ground and moving over to the rings.

Dusting her hands off with chalk, she grabbed onto the metal hoops and hoisted herself up. Her arms were parallel with the ground and her legs stood perfectly above her shoulders, her head perpendicular to her shoulders and arms as she looked out at the crowd that wasn't there. She closed her eyes and arched her back so that her legs reached over, toes pointing towards her head. It was a simple warm-up for the contortions she would be using in her act, getting her muscles ready for the tedious performance. Finished with stretching out, she rotated her wrists to allow her feet to touch the ground and stood up. She chalked up her hands once more and grabbed onto the rings, lifting herself up with just her arms and placing her legs on one hoop, sitting down on it while holding onto the other. For the next few minutes, she practiced various moves and allowed her muscle-memory to take over as she practiced her performance. It was amazing, the feeling of twisting and turning in the air without anything holding you up besides a wire and two metal hoops. To almost glide over the audience and the stadium without needing to rely on the ground, impressing people who couldn't hope to even match her various positions much less do it on only two rings for support. A huge smile formed on her face and she almost laughed with delight as she spun around in the air above the dusty stadium floor.

Jamie frowned and glared at the hissing snake, taking a step away with a furrowed brow, not being a big fan of snakes in general. When she was 8, she dug around in the garden and was bitten by a Guarder Snake on the arm. Since then, she’d never liked them much, and generally liked to stay away from any kind of reptile. Jamie wrapped her arms around her thin frame, shivering slightly as she’d left her jacket in her tent. “Lotta practice, huh?” She said casually to Scarlet, head cocked to one side.

august tapped his fingers against the ground, eyes skimming over the words of the book. as he listened to the music, a thought dawned on him. he still needed to choose his routine music. groaning quietly, he marked his page and stood up, moving to the stadium again. upon seeing scarlet, jamie and sasuke, august fought down a surge of doubt.
"oh, uh, hello. i was just coming here to choose my routine's song." he smiled nervously and shuffled over to the clipboard in which all their names were written. august thought for a moment, then a large grin broke onto his face. "perfect," the boy mumbled to himself. he wrote down the song name and artist before dragging himself back to the others.
"so, who else is really nervous about the show? or is it just me overreacting again?" august rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. his foot tapped against the ground and he waited for them all to gasp out in surprise. he never spoke, unless he thought it was necessary. but august had never begun a conversation before. Jamie frowned and glared at the hissing snake, taking a step away with a furrowed brow, not being a big fan of snakes in general. When she was 8, she dug around in the garden and was bitten by a Guarder Snake on the arm. Since then, she’d never liked them much, and generally liked to stay away from any kind of reptile. Jamie wrapped her arms around her thin frame, shivering slightly as she’d left her jacket in her tent. “Lotta practice, huh?” She said casually to Scarlet, head cocked to one side.

I haven't talked to her about it." She replied, frowning as she did so. August's nervous statement at the end concerned her a little and she tilted her head. "Why would we want you to leave? We're all friends here." She walked up to him and smiled, just a little to ease his nervousness if even just for a little bit.

She grabbed her book, this time the leather one and cracked open its yellow pages to the very middle, where she kept a dried rose pressed between the many thick and heavy pages. She had never read past the part, not wanting to read the ending until she had access to another book. After all, rereading it would be terribly dull. She frowned. And it definitely isn't because Naruko gave me this old thing. She slammed it shut. Once it had been a nostalgic reminder about happier times but now? All she was feeling was anger. She threw the book to the ground, the dried rose falling out of the pages angered landing on the circular carpet beneath her cot. She grabbed the red journal and began reading through it in an attempt to distract herself.

Her heart was beating fast now and she looks at the covers for a bit daring herself to go in but... she touches the scar over her eye stepping back a bit “ .... for her..” she takes a deep breath and just turns around suddenly. Should she just go in?! Does she ask? What can she do? It’s been years since that incident and since Than no one and absolutely no one made her feel this way. The fast beating heart, the foggy mind and the inability to think correctly with just the fact that scarlet was right in front of her just beyond some covers! Soon... she begins to turn around standing tall as she begins to speak, her voice now husky and strong but the warmth and kindness was still there like all those years ago but now... they were more real than ever. “ .... Mi amor... I’m back.” She says simply not wanting to say anymore unless scarlet let her in... and let her see her once again. That need to see her was the one that gave her bravery and strength to move forward and stand here with scars of old battles from traveling on her body. august sat alone in his tent, breathing deeply. every inhale felt as if someone were holding a pillow over his face, while any exhale brought the feeling of blowing bubbles underwater. he ran a shaky hand through his hair before frowning and standing. august stumbled slightly, then moved to open a carrier under his cot. out stepped a large, well-muscled molly. he had brought her to the circus before, after some persuasion to sasuke and tiny about not eating his cat, and she did a few tricks with them. august smiled and pet her soft, tortoiseshell fur before grabbing her collar and leash just in case.
"come on, cori. time to say hi to everyone else." once he stepped outside, with cori in tow, he froze. naruko. biting his lip as memories flicked through his mind, august veered away from scarlet's tent in order to reach the stadium once again. nodding after seeing that sasuke and jamie were still there, he led cori inside and sat down silently, allowing her to jump into his lap and lay down.

Her eyes suddenly widened and she dropped the straight jacket and sprinted at a surprising speed over towards August. “Ohmygod,” She slurred stooping in front of him. “May I pet your cat?” She asked, her eyes wide. It was quite clear that the teen was a fan of cats. “Oh, and I guess I really just need help getting it on.” She said with a shrug. “I never get stuck.” Jamie said simply and surely, like Shen had no doubts in the world that she could ever get stuck during her act. This was only because she never had gotten stuck. But just because she hadn’t ever gotten stuck before, didn’t mean she won’t get stuck later on.

august waved to them while cori purred and rubbed her head against sasuke, familiar with the touch of his hand. she warily glanced around, looking for tiny, before settling against august again, amber eyes dilated towards jamie, confused. oh, yeah. cori hasn't met jamie yet. i haven't brought her with me for a while, and jamie is a newer member of the circus. he pushed some hair out of his eye and nodded to the younger girl, staying quiet.
his prosthetic foot tapped against the ground lightly, nose twitching. he watched the other two performers, enticed by jamie's act. escapologists had always intrigued him. cori also watched, her tail swishing against his thigh. she kneaded his leg and allowed her ears to swivel with every sound. august pet her with a gentle stroke, smiling as he felt her soft fur beneath his palm. the boy's feline began to purr and lean into the touches, signalling that she wanted him to keep petting her, loving all the attention she was recieving.

august waved to them while cori purred and rubbed her head against sasuke, familiar with the touch of his hand. she warily glanced around, looking for tiny, before settling against august again, amber eyes dilated towards jamie, confused. oh, yeah. cori hasn't met jamie yet. i haven't brought her with me for a while, and jamie is a newer member of the circus. he pushed some hair out of his eye and nodded to the younger girl, staying quiet.
his prosthetic foot tapped against the ground lightly, nose twitching. he watched the other two performers, enticed by jamie's act. escapologists had always intrigued him. cori also watched, her tail swishing against his thigh. she kneaded his leg and allowed her ears to swivel with every sound. august pet her with a gentle stroke, smiling as he felt her soft fur beneath his palm. the boy's feline began to purr and lean into the touches, signalling that she wanted him to keep petting her, loving all the attention she was recieving. Jamie looked over at August with a grin. “Hi again!” She said with a wave. Her eyes suddenly widened and she dropped the straight jacket and sprinted at a surprising speed over towards August. “Ohmygod,” She slurred stooping in front of him. “May I pet your cat?” She asked, her eyes wide. It was quite clear that the teen was a fan of cats. “Oh, and I guess I really just need help getting it on.” She said with a shrug. “I never get stuck.” Jamie said simply and surely, like Shen had no doubts in the world that she could ever get stuck during her act. This was only because she never had gotten stuck. But just because she hadn’t ever gotten stuck before, didn’t mean she won’t get stuck later on.

Jamie nodded and positioned herself correctly, inhaling deep into her chest, and as her arms were pulled to her back, she made sure to have her stronger arm over her weaker arm. Once the straps were pulled tight, Jamie released her breath, relaxing her upper body. “Nothing now, really. I guess now you just get to watch,” she shrugged. Then, Jamie suddenly and forcefully pushed her stronger arm towards the opposite shoulder, moving the slack. Next, she carefully yet quickly brought her stronger arm up and over her head, keeping her weaker arm down; her arms now relatively free. Jamie leaned her head forward, unbuckling the buckle with her teeth, and next unbuckling the top and bottom buckles with her free hands. And to finish, she stepped on the material with her foot, pulling the thing off with a final yank of success. The younger girl let out a long sigh with a big smile, and bowed dramatically.

august smiled, cheeks flushing with embarrassment. he chuckled and allowed cori to jump from his lap so she could stretch her legs. his eyes glimmered and he watched jamie with a childish fascination, head tilted to the side. the aerialist ran a hand through his hair and scooted forward in his chair just as jamie broke away from the straight jacket. he gasped quietly, never growing old of her act.

The cat startled the girl somewhat and she let out a laugh, stroking beneath Cori’s chin with a pointer finger, then behind his ear. “What’s her name?” She asked August, smiling as she petted the cat, setting the straight jacket down on the ground. “Oh and thank you; I’m a little out of practice though,” she replied with a shrug, a smile still imenent on her face. She tucked a strand of her curly, short hair behind her ear where it proceeded to fall back into place. She tried one or more times but failed, shrugging it off and leaving the lock of gold hair be. “I saw some of your act, August. It was amazing. How long have you been practicing aerial silk acrobatics?” She enquired, head tilted to one side as she awaited his response.

"Your act is right before Scarlet's, and if she sees Naruko performing in your stead it will throw off her performance." The woman huffed, crossing her arms and frowning. Her green eyes were filled with uncertainty and a slight amount of anger. "This is why I despise romantic interactions." She snorted. "It makes everything so... complicated." She narrowed her eyes at Sasuke faintly. She partially blamed him for the problem, seeing as he knew about Naruko's arrival before anyone else. She was partially suspicious that he had organized the entire thint, but unproven suspicions wouldn't help anything.

By now, Jamie was overly confused. This was her first season of working here, anyway. She nodded to August, listening to his story. “Ah, same here.” She replied, speaking of the practicing. “And yes, she’s very sweet. Cori’s a lovely name, that was my mom’s name; she spelt it K-o-r-y though. Jamie shrugged. “When I was a kid, I used to lock myself in drawers or hide in weird places that no one thought I’d fit. Once, I hid for so long that my mom called the police because she’d thought I’d been kidnapped,” Jamie said with a laugh, a distant and whistful look upon her face. Quickly, she shook her head to clear away from the thoughts; she wasn’t about to get all mushy and sad in front of a bunch of people- no sir. At the sound of Amy’s voice, Jamie flinched a bit in surprise; not having noticed her entrance. She smiled vaguely at the woman, arms folded still as she shivered; half contemplating whether or not she should just go grab a jacket or not. She knew that Amy disliked her choice of costume: it wasn’t surprising or shocking or glittery. But honestly; Jamie didn’t much care.

august nodded, bending down to kiss cori's head. "lovely," he mumbled, tapping his foot. the aerialist held his feline close and smiled to himself, cocking his head to the side. his eyes glimmered with a rare hint of love, only shown to the cat he was holding in his arms. humming, august dragged gentle strokes of his hand along cori's back, all other things in the room fading out of his bubble of attention. cori headbutted his cheek, her purrs gradually growing in volume. he seemed to purr back, a genuine smile curled onto his lips.
a gentle breeze blew into the stadium through the open door, causing august's hair to rustle. he kept hugging cori even as he shivered, though. the pretty feline reached up and batted at his nose playfully before swiping her tongue across it, a show of affection as he nuzzled the top of her head.
