Snowypaw

His paw giving a rightful fit as it was lifted once more, Snowypaw's efforts to keep up with his mentor were quickly becoming harder, only his enthusiasm at being out of the camp for the first time in memory and his wish to not slow down his mentor's pace kept him going, although if he had to guess, he would be collapsing into the first empty corner of the apprentice's den he could find. For a moment, the large tom found himself fondly wishing he could simply sneak into the nursery and go back to his favorite solitary corner and it's cool stone floor. The thought was quickly dismissed, however, as he realized that if he could still sneak into the nursery, he wouldn't be out here wishing such nonsense to begin with.

As Deadmoon stopped in front of an impressive tree line - certainly much more impactful than the one by ShadowClan's border - Snowypaw couldn't help but look up, his mouth agape with awe at the sight as he sat down to take in the view. Having been cramped inside the WindClan camp for as long as he had, Snowypaw couldn't help but feel a sense of appreciation and fondness for the moors that they had frequented while cutting distance between the different clan borders. That said, there was something humbling about the towering trees that was only rivalled by the constant, buffeting winds of the moor and their infinite carriage of information. He couldn't help but think it seemed like a not half bad place... until Deadmoon brought up the fires. There was that. Maybe it was silly to even try to compare the moors to these woodlands in the first place.

At the mention of other apprentices, Snowypaw turned to look at his mentor, his head cocked to the side. Not having much experience with the apprentices in his own clan - and the few he had met having been perfectly calm and attentive - he had a hard time imagining an apprentice disrupting anything... especially not a gathering! With this thought, his chest puffed out slightly, proud of his own clan's apprentices... except for maybe that one apprentice that had disrupted the meeting earlier during the day? No, no. Such thoughts were ill fitting for him. Snowypaw was sure something must have set the poor apprentice off like that. She was a WindClan apprentice, after all!

Noticing his attention had drifted slightly from the topic at paw, the large tom shifted his paws embarrassedly, making sure to give Deadmoon his full attention now. Maybe his exhaustion was finally catching up to him? As if to carry this point across, a quiet, tired yawn escaped him before he could stop himself, forcing him to shake himself awake before his eyes grew wide, realizing his impertinence. His ears flattening in shame, he looked down at his paws before shaking his head in response to Deadmoon's remark on her being open to answer any questions, realizing that he probably didn't have the sense of mind to ask proper questions right now. The small stop here at the border seemed to have been taken by his body as a perfect moment to let him know it was ready for a nap. "Sorry," he mewed quietly in his usual soft voice, stifling another yawn before it escaped him.

The black tom was padding to the border, just for a patrol, when he noticed another warrior and apprentice. He raised his tail in greeting before looking back behind his shoulder. "Flamepaw, you keeping up okay?" He asked the she-cat, not wanting her to be too far behind. Turning back, he fully greeted the two cats on the WindClan border.

"Good morning! How's the hunting?" He wanted to be civil and kind, to keep the peace.

What gave that little rascal the right to be so CUTE? Snowypaw looked absolutely adorable right now, head tilted and stifling(or not) yawns that Deadmoon really just wanted to give him a big hug. She restrained herself. He seemed to have accepted her explanation of Thunderclan without complaint and seemed ready to head home, understandable given his obvious tiredness. Her voice lilting slightly in amusement, she mewed It's alright, we've had a pretty long day and I know I for one could certainly go for some prey and a nap right now. her statement ended in a quiet purr, before her attention was drawn sharply to the border they had come to investigate.

Two Thunderclan cats were approaching them, a tom and what she assumed to be his apprentice trailing a bit farther behind. He seemed friendly enough and when he greeted them she dipped her head in response. If they were going to be civil then she could be civil as well. She was pretty sure Snowypaw was never anything besides kind, so she didn't bother with any sort of warning 'stay back' look that a rowdier apprentice might have received.

Windclan has been hunting well. she mewed politely, sticking to what she considered the preapproved playbook of clan interactions. Be polite(unless you were active enemies), appear strong, and keep answers vague and undetailed. How has the hunting been in the forest? She fully expected an answer very similar to what she had just offered, with now frippery frappery that might lead to any assumption besides that Thunderclan was strong and healthy. It was probably true though, every clan ate well in Greenleaf unless they were having very big problems, so there was no real sense in trying to pry. Leafbare was when things got interesting politically, with cats hungry and tensions usually higher, not that she had any fondness for the colder season.

Expecting to be reprimanded by his mentor for his lack of attention and obvious disrespect, Snowypaw couldn't help but instinctively flinch as she finally spoke, his eyes closing shut until he realized there was no sign of anger in her voice... again. In fact, she seemed... amused? Not something he should be finding surprising by this point. His mentor had been nothing but kind, patient, and funny! Not only that, but she seemed to be sharing his opinion on how naptime sounded swell right about now. Turning to look at Deadmoon, he beamed at her, big blue eyes sparkling with glee despite his tiredness. Nothing like the promise of rest once they got back home to give him that burst of energy he needed! Wait... was that right?

With not even time to get up, Snowypaw noticed Deadmoon's demeanor suddenly change, her face turning sharply back at the border. Nerves finally giving him that final jolt he needed to fully wake up, the large tom swiveled his own head back towards the woods, confusion etched on his face until two figures came closer, startling the apprentice. No doubt his mentor had sensed them before him. Note to self, always keep a watchful eye while out by the borders, even if all seems quiet and you just want to zonk out.

Still, despite the fact that these were obviously not WindClan cats, they did not seem offended by their chance meeting. If anything, they seemed to be perfectly nice. Noticing Deadmoon give a polite greeting in response, he dipped his own head as well in a quiet hello of his own. Shifting his paws, Snowypaw pressed closer to Deadmoon as she spoke, deciding it best if he remained quiet while pleasantries were exchanged. The large tom straightened his back, making his posture straighter and more alert while still retaining a friendly demeanor about him. He did not want to seem rude or intimidating, but it would not do to seem anything but a proper apprentice to his mentor, after all!

Flamepaw had luckily already had plenty of stamina from her previous training. Bringing her attention back to Spiderleap, she smiled and gave a nod, signifying she was doing okay. That was something the apprentice was lucky for: a seemingly endless amount of energy. Maybe that's why she's called Flamepaw. But that didn't really matter, did it? After all, it was just a name, something others call you.

Looking ahead of her and her patrol mate, she purred and lifted her tail in greeting the WindClan cats. They smelled a little stranger than what she was used to, but she knew she had to be kind. After all, they weren't battling one another, and ThunderClan, as far as Flamepaw knew, didn't have any conflict with the rival Clan. Her orange and white fur was moving slightly with the wind that was coming from WindClan territory.

"Hiya!" she purred. "I'm Flamepaw!"

Flamepaw looked at the stranger, a warrior. Not really knowing how to address a rival warrior on the border, she stayed silent after announcing who she was. What was she to say? She couldn't give away any Clan weakness, that would just be mouse-brained. Who knew where WindClan and ThunderClan stood with each other? The warriors, that's who. Now, Cindersky was dead and Sparrowflight was off getting her lives. Could she mention that? Probably not. That sort of stuff was mentioned at Gatherings.

A bit uneasy and uncomfortable, she looked to Spiderleap and whispered in his ear, "What do I say? I never met WindClan cats..."

The WindClan apprentice seemed to be falling asleep on his walk, was it really that boring for him? Surely a border patrol would be fun, exciting, new?? Shaking her head, Flamepaw only offered a small, awkward smile of greeting.

"Who are you? Is this your first patrol?" she finally thought of something to ask! Perhaps she could become friends with this stranger. It would be fun to know someone in a rival Clan, and besides, did it really hurt to know a potential enemy? Maybe it did, but that was for Flamepaw to figure out at a later time. She had to be nice, show WindClan that ThunderClan was strong. Although she hasn't gotten the chance to go to a Gathering yet, the she-cat knew she had to show off ThunderClan's strength.

Shortly after his mentor had cordially spoken to the dark furred ThunderClan warrior, the apprentice behind him spoke up. Introducing herself as... Flamepaw? He didn't have much time to ponder on her name, however, as he saw her turn to the warrior, looking a tad uncomfortable. His ears perked up as she whispered to her companion, realizing that if he felt on edge being around potential enemies - no matter how friendly they seemed - it stood to reason that she might be feeling the same. Again, not much time was given to ponder on this as Flamepaw turned to him next, asking him for an introduction.

Unable to contain himself, a small purr of amusement escaped the large tom. He could see what Deadmoon had mentioned about disruptive apprentices, but quite frankly this was not how he had envisioned them. If anything, while certainly high spirited, Flamepaw seemed like a perfectly nice molly! "Snowypaw," he mewed softly in response, keeping his place next to Deadmoon. For her next question, however, he paused. Unsure of how to answer, his ear twitched in thought. It wasn't really his first patrol. It couldn't be, as he had been named an apprentice only earlier this day. Would a tour of the territory and his first outing through WindClan's territory be considered a patrol? He settled for tilting his head questioningly at Deadmoon. Surely she would know what this was, and he would not rudely lie to the ThunderClan apprentice.

Hearing the WindClan apprentice purr in amusement, Flamepaw couldn't decide whether to be mad at him for being amused by her rather rare awkwardness and skittishness. The apprentice looked almost as large as she was, though the orange and white green-eyed tabby knew the WindClan apprentice was much younger.

"Nice to meet ya, Snowypaw!" she dipped her head and softly purred in formal greeting. So the tom was nice. Well, that was great! At least this apprentice wasn't like what she remembered from ShadowClan's takeover of ThunderClan. That was a terrifying time. And in her mind, it still was. But Snowypaw only tilted his head and stared at the WindClan warrior accompanying him. But there was not much more time for conversation. Spiderleap was already wanting to head out and continue the border patrol. Aw man! Flamepaw didn't dare complain out loud, what would Snowypaw think if she had?

"See you around, I guess, Snowypaw," she murmured and turned to follow her patrol mate.

Flamepaw turned her head, disappointment flashed in her eyes but the apprentice forced the feeling away with a shake of her head. Spiderleap's right. We have to patrol and report to Copperfire. She was happy, though. Spiderleap shared news of ThunderClan without actually mentioning what was going on in the Clan. No mention of the deaths, births, or even Sparrowflight's promotion.

"I guess so. But who was that warrior with Snowypaw? They seemed really friendly," Flamepaw questioned the warrior, her eyes bright with curiosity. "Do we have anything going on between us and WindClan? I wasn't exactly sure what to say..."

His eyes still on his mentor, Snowypaw's mismatched ears perked as he heard the dark ThunderClan tom speak. Oh. They were leaving already? A small hint of disappointment bubbled in Snowypaw's stomach as he met Flamepaw's eyes for a moment as she mumbled a quick goodbye to him. As sad as he was to see the friendly apprentice leave, he supposed it was to be expected. They were no doubt on a patrol themselves, and a good apprentice always follows their mentor's instructions, right? Flamepaw was simply being a good apprentice!

Trying to hide his own regret of not having been able to get to know the ThunderClan apprentice better, he gave a shy smile as she left, lifting a paw gently as he pawed the air once, almost as though if he were trying to send a playful nudge through the distance between them. "Bai," he whispered back in his usual soft tone, bright blue eyes following after them. Maybe he would see her again? Deadmoon had just mentioned the ThunderClan apprentices at the Gatherings. Maybe if he was extra good, he could go to one and meet up with her once more!

Hope gleaming in his eyes, Snowypaw turned his gaze towards Deadmoon, his head slightly tilted as he silently waited for her instruction.

Alright, so Badgerpaw was leading the border patrol. He found it odd considering he has never even been on a patrol, but if Twilightstar thought he could do it, he would. Padding his way through the territory he found the familiar, light-colored trees along with water that was flowing toward Badgerpaw's right. As he and the patrol got closer, he found that it was a stream. Not a river. I made it to the Thunderglade! Badgerpaw straightened himself up, feeling more confident that he had managed to lead the patrol in the right direction. This'll show Laurelpaw, Tulippaw, and Tulippaw's friends that I belong in WindClan! Now to remember what to do on a border patrol...

"Borders must be checked and marked frequently..." Badgerpaw murmured to himself, recalling the conversation he and Twilightstar had on the border tour. "Alright, spread out and mark the border. Look for any signs of trespassers and predators. Stay alert, anything can happen. Let's mark the border in pairs, Twilightstar and I will cover this part-," Badgerpaw motioned to some land close to the stream with a twitch of his whiskers.

"Dapplepaw and Rabbittail, you two can go over there," the tom then turned his head to the dead tree.

"Call out when you've finished or if you see, hear, or smell anything that doesn't belong here."

That was good, right? Badgerpaw hoped so, it was his first patrol. He looked to his patrol mates to see if they had any questioning glances. Anything to suggest he was doing something wrong.
