Blaze quietly followed Frostcoat and Cherrypaw, listening to their conversation. He was unfamiliar with the territory, but that never stopped him from finding prey. He always had an excellent sense of smell, and he just about knew how to hunt, otherwise, he wouldn't be alive. He trailed behind a bit just to let them talk until they decided to remember his presence.

Thornstar sat on the hightree watching his clan. He sighed and jumped down, starting to walk over to his den. His pelt shimmered in the sunlight. He remembered when his father, the old leader, died because of the sickness that spreads through out the clan. He sighed and sat outside his den, his head down looking at his paws

"Whatever we can find. Most likely not salmon, though. We are heading towards the Meadow. We'll probably find squirrels and shrews." Cherrypaw reminded Frostcoat of when he was an apprentice. Fond memories filled the old cat's head of when he, Coldpaw, and Romanpaw were striving to be the best they could be. Following that thought came sadness, remembering how Coldstripe killed Romanheart. Frostcoat missed his brothers, but at the same time was glad Coldstripe died of sickness. The sickness Frostcoat has. Unintentionally, Frostcoat's excited face turned into one of deep sadness.

"I'm great at catching squirrels!" Cherrypaw mewed, looking up at Frostcoat "I could use some work on my--" She cut herself off and stopped walking when she saw his face "Are you alright, Frostcoat?"

Cherrypaw's words brought him back to reality. He shook his thoughts away, his whiskers occasionally whipping his muzzle. "I-I'm fine. Just nostalgia." Frostcoat gave a fake smile, trying to reassure his apprentice. Maybe later he could tell the story to the young shecat and pass it off as a spooky story. The old cat lifted his gray muzzle, scenting the air. He smelled a shrew and turned to Cherrypaw and Blaze to see if they smelled it too. "What can you smell?" He asked, subconsciously changing the subject. This was a bad habit of his.

Blaze had kept quiet until Frostcoat asked what they could smell. He took a few good sniffs, and made his guess, "I can smell a possible shrew, over in that direction." He pointed the direction of the scent with his tail, looking in that direction as well. He took another good whiff, and said, "There's also a squirrel over in the opposite direction." His nose hadn't failed him yet, but at the same time every cat makes a mistake at some point, he just never knew when his mistake would happen.

Let me see you try and catch one." The old tom congratulated, Frostcoat turned over to Cherrypaw to see if she scented anything different.

Blaze sniffed the scent again to get a good path to the squirrel, crouching down and sneaking his way towards the prey. The squirrel never notice him coming, his tail kept perfectly still, and his paws gently touching the earth, making sure not to hit any twigs. When he was close enough to the squirrel, he sprung his hind legs, launching forward into the air, landing on top of the squirrel, holding it down long enough for him to give a killing bite to it. When he killed it, he simply picked it up and brought it over to the two, thinking that Frostcoat didn't see him catch it.

Cherrypaw was lost in thought, her head tilted up as she tasted the air. "A vole to the north," She meowed "and...a hare? No, a squirrel. The hare is to the west, near the lake."

"Good job, the both of you." The old tom meowed before pausing, seeing which way his scent was blowing. It seemed to be blowing away from the vole. Frostcoat crouched, lowered his tail, disappearing under the grass as a result. The grass rustled as he dashed forward, making a tiny leap, his paws outstretched. His paws curled around the vole, his claws piercing the flesh of the small creature. Frostcoat picked the vole up, the limp body dangling from his jaws.

Cherrypaw stayed where she was, eyes closed. Her tail tip calmly twitched every so often. her ears were like radars, twitching and shifting at every noise as she tried to lock onto one. This was something she learned from one of the older apprentices. lock onto one thing. if all of her senses are concentrated on one thing, she had better chances of catching it.
