These trees conceal us from the others- enemies, if you’d like to call them that. However, sometimes… these enemies cross into the borders. Would you like to learn how to become the best fighter you can be? To fend your enemies off?”

Mothpaw’s eyes glittered at the skills she could get. Was this really true? Mothpaw glanced around.this place looked sinister through… but it would hurt to try.

“Excellent,” Fernwhisker sat down then began to think of what the apprentice had heard. “Promise me something, will you Mothpaw? Never ever show any of your Clanmates these skills I am about to teach you. Promise that you’ll listen to everything I say and that you will do these techniques without question.”

“You will be learning what I like to call the… bite and pin. I will explain before doing anything. First, when you are pinned in battle, you have three ways to escape, though one is weaker than the others. The first way I’ll teach you is the bite and pin, which is used when pinned by an opponent and is to be a last resort much like the second move, understand?”

The she-cat paused for a moment to allow the information to soak into the apprentice.

“To perform the bite and pin… you bite one of your opponent’s front legs, and don’t hesitate to bite hard, this could be a life-or-death situation with your opponent. After biting your opponent’s leg, keep a hold on the leg and push the back legs away from the opponent. This enables you to roll and be on top. Try it on me. Now.”

"Indeed," Fernwhisker hissed as she shoved Mothpaw off of her. "Again. And this time, bite hard. No battle will be won if you're soft on your opponent."

Mothpaw nodded and narrowed her eyes.she sped at Fernwhisker, biting hard on her front leg, then twisted it, unbalancing her, before pinning her down.

A rule in battle that everyone follows but no-one speaks of is that everyone expects an attack, but no-one prepares for one. Be on high alert all the time during a battle, it may save your life and you can surprise your enemy. You Clan cats just leave your opponent on the ground without knowing if they’ll get up and attack you from behind… follow my instructions, young Mothpaw and I’ll teach you how to make sure your opponent stays on the ground so you know they won’t attack you again,” the she-cat used her hind legs and kicked the apprentice off then got back up. “After you’ve been taught how to do the bite and pin, we’ll move onto the bite and kick. That’ll be your prize for learning how to do the bite and pin properly, understand?”

“I’m sure you will,” Fernwhisker smiled, though she really didn’t expect the apprentice to make her proud. “For now, focus on mastering this move. Can’t move on without doing that, Mothpaw.”

The she-cat readied herself for another bite then straightened herself back up, “Oh and uh… once you learn how to do it properly with this practice, you’ll have to learn how to use it against an opponent who is actually fighting back. But like I said: master one move at a time.”
