What a strange question. Lionstorm couldn't tell if it was from Duskstar trauma or if she was genuinely curious. "Because I could." Really, it was as simple as that. "Being a leader.. is exhausting. Time consuming. It saps your energy away and leaves you depleted. I lost the spark I felt when I first became leader-- the passion for it. So I passed the flame onto someone who still had that." He flicked his tail into Sootstar's direction. "The good of your Clan always comes first."

Lionstorm wanted it to be clear.. it was for RiverClan's sake, mainly. Having a leader with waning interest did not serve the Clan well. As Buckstar and Twilightstar made their leave, Lionstorm flicked his ears. "Unfortunately it appears we'll have to cut this chat short."

Somehow Eelsting had completely missed the other cat when he walked over so he waved his tail as a greeting to her and sent both strangers a smile. Little mouse introduced himself first, followed by Cedarleaf, and Eelsting piped up with his own introduction.

“Eelsting! Nice to meet you both. Correct me if I’m wrong but you both smell like Thunderclanners- how are things going over in the forest for you guys? Your new leader seems to be doing well! Then again I suppose he’s not all that new anymore.”

"Oh, uh, okay." they replied, as Cedarleaf got up and left all of a sudden, "See you!" they called after them, unsure if they would even hear over the din of the crowd. Had they done something wrong? No matter, they could find them afterward and ask.

"Yes!" they chirped, turning back to Eelsting, "ThunderClan is right. We're doing as well as we can in the middle of leafbare." They offered a soft laugh, "Buckstar is a good leader, so far."

That was odd. Eelsting watched Cedarleaf leave with a questioning tilt to his head. Maybe they had somewhere to be? The tom shrugged to himself and let it go quickly, turning his attention back to Littlemouse as the other warrior responded to his question.

“Oh great! I’m glad! It’s nice to have leader who can be trusted- unlike someone up there. Come to think of it, I guess we have an even newer leader than you guys! But you guys know Sootstar by now- he’s been deputy forever. I’d never even heard of Buckstar before he became leader. What was his warrior name? I’m curious now!”

It was odd, not being at the gathering. Whitetail had watched Rainyfur and the other cats leave for it, and she was stayin behind with Hailkit. She loved the kit as much as she had her own, and she was just as caring towards it, but it somehow felt wrong to not go. Murmuring a warning at one of the other queens, she got up to do a little moonlit hunting.

Rainyfur walked with the rest of the cats going to the gathering. Whitetail’s adopted kit thought he was her father, and his ears grew hot with embarrassment as he realised how much he had been visiting the nursery. Other cats had noticed, and he could see how bad Whitetail had felt for having a crush on him. He shook himself, this was a night to gather with the clans in a time of peace and gossip with warriors, and exchange news. Not to think about the romance drama he was having with a queen.
