SmokeClan is located on top of an abandoned TwoLeg school. The roof is intact in some areas, but the natural vine growth covers the holes for the most part. There is also a basement that SmokeClan uses for hiding. There are hidden entrances to the basement at the front of the structure, near the meeting area and the nursery. next to the nursery is the warriors den, and past that, the apprentices. at the back, behind the apprentices den is the medicine den, which also has an entrances to the basement. There is an old TwoLeg closet that is used to store the herbs there as well. Opposite of the medicine den are the Elders den and leaders den. There is a door that connects the two dens, and an entrance to the basement in the elders den. The leaders den also has an exit to the roof, which allows the leader to hear threats more easily. The area surrounding Smoke Clan is littered with building debris, which makes it hard to navigate without injury.
Surrounding the SmokeClan camp is a thick forest, with several river running through it, and is often covered with fog. The cats of SmokeClan eat the fish out of the rivers, but also hunt the birds in the forest. Occasionally, the warriors will find a fox or vulture and hunt it for the clan.
Unlike other clans, Smokeclan's medicine cat receives a gift from Starclan to aid them in their job. Each cat has a different gift. Smokeclan also believes that each cat should have a connection to Starclan. If a member of the clan feels the need for guidance and has not found any among the living, they can go to the Mist Bank, where they can receive visions from Starclan to aid them. The Clan leader and medicine cat receive their gifts from Starclan at the source of the river, a waterfall. The leaders and medicine cats pass through the waterfall and fall asleep in the cave behind it.

Smokestar, Icefur, Fireeyes, Misteye, Softheart, and Flowerclaw were rogue cats who each individually encountered clan cats, but were exiled from the clan for various reasons. They met each other by chane and formed there own clan. Smokestar's previous mate, known as Deadspirit, is the Clans sworn enemy. He received the nine lives from Starclan from another clan, and is currently on his fourth one, each taken by Smokestar. He has three claw scars across one eye, a wound which took his first life.
