Crayfish trotted upstream for a bit, then listened for the bird. "Hear anything?" She asked softly.
Bird pricked her ears and shook her head.

She shrugged. "Whenever they get stuck in this pool, they die. Perhaps it's for the better." She paused. "But, there are some places downstream that don't dry up in the summer."

"Oh well." He froze when he looked at a figure in the a bit farther from them.

Aatu stared at the two humans for a moment before walking off. He thought he smelled something different.

She let out a little squeak at the sight of the wolf, then squared her shoulders and bayed like the beagle she used to have.
Translation into dog:"HEEEEEEEEEEY!! INTRUDER!!! NO!! OFF!! MY LAND!!

"So that guy will either tell his friends that there are weird humans that bark like dogs that hold the territory over here, or he might tell them that there's territory to be had that's only guarded by some weird humans. How well can you swing a stick?" She started to make her way around the pool. "Also you didn't meet 'im you just saw em."

"So there is something over there!" Wolf mewed excitingly. "Let's go!" He ran off.

"Wait. I don't think your parents gave you permission..." Aatu said wqlking off after him.
