She would pry until she was yelled at, then she knew to shut up. Because this golden cat did not like to be yelled at. She slumped next to Fennec, trying her best to stay in line with him. Her ears folded to her head, and she stayed silent.

The thought of bears strolling around through her still made her slightly afraid. There were hardly any bears in the Syndicate. In fact, there were not any animals within the syndicate. It was such a tough place to find food, since the land was so barren. Sometimes Timid felt bad for Halite. He was such an odd character, that she felt pity for him more than sorry. Especially with the recent lost war with Skyclan. Timid could remember that day when she patiently, but anxiously awaited for the fighters to get back and declared they won the fight...but they didn't. They were all fallen, all worn out, and the sight made Timid recoil inwardly. She thought the fighters were great at...well, fighting. Then again, she didn't know the codes of the clan very well. Or, their fighting technique.

She had been lost in her thoughts. Lost in nature. The deer and elk were...majestic? Timid twitched her nose, tilting her head for a second as she imagined that 'deer' and 'elk' were majestic. One thing that Timid did love was observing other species. She knew a lot about other species, which were a bit odd if she told another cat. Though this was something that she liked to keep to herself. So far, the place still looked like a new home. Her bright graze flickered every aspen tree in sight, and she could smell the scents of nearby prey. Perfect for eating. Now that she was thinking about food, she could feel her stomach tightening. Yet, she couldn't figure out if she was truly hungry or that as each second was passing, she was wasting time to getting back to the Syndicate to feed the fighters.

Timid perked her ears at the toms reassurance. She gave a soft smile. ''Well, you have been here longer than I have.'' She gave an awkward chuckle, but she was the slightest of convinced. She heaved in a great sigh, and she forced herself to believe this tom. After all, nothing was wrong with Fennec. He just seemed...out of place. Like he didn't belong here. Timid wanted to be seen as a friend, but she was still from the Syndicate. So, it was understandable to her that he didn't trust her much. But, being Timid. She had nothing to hide. Her life could be seen in her eyes if looked upon closer.

She was scared.

Simple as that. When he talked about the bears, Timid felt herself flinch for a second. ''But, you said that there had been reports of one being seen!'' She said, her eyes taking on a pleading turn. ''Just because you didn't see it, don't mean others didn't.'' Her voice remained soft, timid-like, always scared. She never tried to stray too far, but perhaps her words had been a bit...hurtful. She wanted to believe the tom and not question his actions, or his words. If he didn't see a bear, then maybe the bear didn't make it known to where he was. ''But-- uh! Maybe...you're right. No bears.'' She shrieked, but bounded after him.

But as he answered her question about his family, the she cat nodded. But, she knew something was well-hidden in his hues. He looked sad, almost. Timid didn't know how to make him feel better. She also didn't want to be the cause that he was remembering something...he didn't want to remember? It had confused her that he missed his family, but had to escape. Had someone threatened his family and took him away? So many questions had swirled in the young she cat's mind, and every now and then she would turn her head to Fennec, about to ask him a question, but fight against it because she would only be playing into his business. His voice was harsh when he answered her. Very vague. So, she figured he didn't want to talk about it. ''Oh.'' Was all she really could say. If she said anything else, perhaps he would had became agitated and yelled at her. As stated before, yelling made Timid uncomfortable.

Timid stayed quiet for a while, her head downcasted on her paws. Her eyes flickered from her paws to his, acknowledging the difference that their paws held. It made her see how small and fragile she was. Then again, this could had been due to genetics. Ah, yes genetics. Timid never knew her mother or father. And, the queen that nursed her didn't look a thing like her. Besides, she knew this since the old queen constantly told her how much of a disgrace she was, and that she was forced to nurse her. Timid couldn't change the past, and she never became bitter from it. She focused solely on the future. Mainly being scared of what was to come. When her last days would be present. But, she shook her head from the depressing thoughts. Timid was scared--always, but depressing? Never. She was one of the most optimistic cats there were! The golden cat brought herself back to the presence, gazing at her companion for a short moment. ''Where are you taking me?'' Hopefully, a change of topic would bring back a friendlier atmosphere instead of the one they were currently in. Whatever this atmosphere they were in. He had mentioned this place he figured she would love. She felt bad that he was alone in this place. No one to talk to. Surely, he would had gone insane, and so maybe that was why he needed a companion. Maybe, it wouldn't be so bad to leave behind a place that was...controlling. Yet, she still didn't know if it were the right choice. Then again, when it came to Timid? She was indecisive and thought every choice she made was a bad one.

Fennec felt his tail sinking closer to the ground between his feet. He really didn't mean for it to move, it just did on its own: however, portraying him as a cowardly liar. Well, not a liar. He told Timid the truth, the very amigious truth. But even thought it was vague didn't mean it was a particularly a fib. Fennec rotated his ears forward to counter his his tail, which seemed to have a mind of its own at times. Maybe Timid thought he was a giant secret holder, and destroyed the growing trust between them because he hadn't said anything. He bit his lip, he didn't want to tell her all about his past, but a small part of him just wanted to get it out in the world to someone. What would Timid do? He didn't think she was the type of feline to laugh and run away. His nose twitched, he still dint think he was ready to throw out his past like snowfall.

To lose time, Fennec sniffed the air, hoping to find a song patch of prey, or maybe a fawn to show the molly beside him. He closed his eyes and searched the clear air with his nose, hoping to pick up the faint scent of the juniper bush that was near the aspen clearing. He inhaled, and the smell of juniper drifted awards him. A sharp, strong, and piney type of smell that was somehow more...planty? Whatever was the scent, they were extremely close to the little grove.

Judging from the fact that Timid had somehow known all about the fennec fox, he had a hunch that Timid was well-informed about animals. He just didn't know which ones, but he knew for a fact probably a lot more than him. Maybe that was a good thing: Fennec had always found deer and cervidae fascinating, maybe Timid could teach him a thing or two about all of the prancing, antler-sporting deer.

Fennec returned her small laugh with what he hoped was a reassuring smile. Sure, he'd been here for a season or two, but he wasn't an expert. Anything could happen here, he just prayed that it was good action. But nonetheless, thunderstorms would always happen. It was just a matter of how strong the storm was. Either way, he'd do his best to hold out. Anything could be an adventure, really.

Fennec swiveled his head sharply as Timid replied to his flustered reassurance on the bears, he felt his rising tail now prickle with a feeling he couldn't pin down. "It was all talk." Fennec kept his voice level, remembering the two cats passing by saying something along the lines of 'oh yeah, that bear was huge!'; Fennec figured they'd seen it on the edge of the territory, but the cats were travelers, so they tustve seen it somewhere on their path. He spoke aloud again before he could stop himself, "I haven't seen one personally, but Im guessing so many other cats have seen one. Not here of course, but cats all around that live in different places. I bet some dent even know what bears are." he gave a little amused puff of air as he finished his sentence, looking softly at Timid's face a she tried to agree with him. Fennec felt something awkward flutter in his chest, the other cat probably still didn't believe him. He heaved a sigh, why did he say bears in the first place the he knew he would frighten Timid?

Fennec felt his anticipation grow as he watched Timid nod as he talked about his family. What was she thinking? He felt his paws turn skittish, each paw step bringing a new level of sensitivity. He was ready to become scared and shelters if Timid replied something that he dint want to hear. But maybe this was ate telling him to face the music, just up and tell her. His slightly brave feeling growing within him suddenly deflated as Timid responded to him. He took a deep breath in, maybe she couldn't find anything to say. Fennec turned his gaze forward to look at the wildflower, and pine needle-strewn grass infant of him, but Timid stayed in the corner of his eye. he decided not to think of the questions that just happened, and instead focused on the sound of his and the she-cats paw steps against the nature.

He couldn't help but notice Timid looking at his paws and at her paws, perhaps they were thinking that same thing? Fennec doubted it. his mind was simple, priorities first and taking in the exact scene around him. Timid seemed to be the cat that thought of all the possibilities and remembered the memories that came when a small thing triggered it. Fennec set his jaw, the only memories that came back to him was his family, which did not help whatsoever. He felt his shoulders loosen in relief as Timid averted the subject to something else. Fennec was almost excited to respond, so he looked up and back at Timid."it's beautiful."he mewed, trying to give Timid a visual picture, "Its a small clearing of aspen trees, and they literally glow in the sunlight." he emphasized enthusiastically, "we're almost there."[

The thought of his past left his mid free for a few moments, so Fennec scented and looked for the distinctive juniper bush on the side, his amor eyes flickering around in a panoramic sweep. He slowed his pace dramatically when he spotted the small evergreen bush. "Do you see that juniper bush? Its right past that." Fennec increased his pace slowly. He hoped Timid would enjoy this, not for her to take up his offer- which he had spaced out on- but just so she could enjoy the scenery of where he lived.

He hoped Timid would enjoy this, not for her to take up his offer- which he had spaced out on- but just so she could enjoy the scenery of where he lived.
Timid’s large eyes soaked in the area. She was already excited...even though she should had probably been home by now. Instead, she was taking up an offer of leaving everything she knew behind. She always figured that there would be greener grass on the other side. And, this place? Was the literal definition of it. She looked towards the blue skies to aspen trees to the pretty flowers of all sorts. She was intrigued by everything. As she whipped her head to stare at Fennec, her ears began to flat to her head and a frown appeared on her face. “What's wrong, Fennec?” Her voice was light. Why did he put himself into a submissive posture?

Timid hoped it wasn't her fault if she upset him. This made her began breathing heavily as she always felt when something happened, it was her fault. She was usually was the one easy to be picked on back in the Syndicate. She was small, she knew she was useless, but she was one of the skilled hunters. They couldn't just get rid of her...but she wanted to leave. She just didn't have enough encouragement to do that until she met… The Fennec fox look alike. She knew it wasn't a bad thing that she met him. He was so nice! Even beyond the rough...interior. Or, whatever he was hiding.

Timid didn't want to pester him. He would probably find her company unbearable and want her to leave. To Timid, she felt this was giving her a second chance at being happy. And though, she was happy being in the Syndicate...with friends. She forgot the true meaning of happiness. She was such an upbeat cat that rarely got to show that side of her.

So, she bounded forward, running as fast as she could with the small legs she had. “Come on, Fennec!” It was funny. She didn't know this place at all, but she was urging him to follow her. The beauty had left her breathless, and the fresh air entered into her nostrils like it was giving her new life. Nothing bad had to happen here, right? Timid took a whiff at the air, smelling the noticeable plants. She blinked her eyes for a moment before she continued on.

Of course, the bear...Timid stopped in her running, gradually slowing down. Her ears swiveled towards Fennec. She began lightly railing beside him, keeping her tail in a low swish. “Bears are intimidating because they're so large!” She had to admit...she was overreacting when it came to this bear situation. She could by the way Fennec was trying to convince her with his stammering. Even if she was scared, she tried her best to hold it down by simple facts she picked up from bears. “It won't attack you if you don't provoke it.” She shrugged, flicking her green eyes to look at him. “You just have to stay really still. Blend in with the surroundings and they won't bother you.” Her whiskers quivered, and she looked ahead at their destination.

Timid observed a lot of animals. From the tiniest termite to the ever so large bears. Any animal apart of the forest, the small feline knew about. Learning was everything to Timid. And, she wished to share her knowledge with other felines...but no one seem interested to know the facts she learned from observing each species. So, Timid kept it to herself. And, every now and then, she would let little facts slip out at the right moment.

As they continued on, Timid smiled at the tom’s words. “You don't have to tell me that!” She giggled. “I already know it's gorgeous here!” And, a lot better than that depressing place I call home. Home… That was a funny word to her now. She didn't understand the meaning of it, but she knew she would enjoy every moment that she had left here. The she cat began picking up her pace once more, excitement welling in her at the thought of being awestruck by such a…beautiful place.

She was already in love with air that was surrounding them. And the brilliant sunlight that lit up this place. She couldn't imagine what the moon would bring upon lighting this place up. She had wondered how long they had left before they would reach the place. Then, she figured the farther the better! But at Fennec’s words, she stared at the juniper bush, and nodded at the tom. She passed briskly towards it, passing it as Fennec said it was beyond that bush.

“Oh. My.” Exactly. Just as she thought. She was absolutely speechless. Just rooted to her spot as she stared around at this new place. Why didn't the Syndicate take this as their home? It was such a pure place. Untouched to the core. And, Fennec was lucky enough to call this his home. Her mouth was agaped, and her eyes stayed widened.
This was endless…
After a few moments of being shocked, intrigued, or any emotion bubbling with in. “This is where you live?” She stared up at him with a tilt of her head. She knew it was beautiful, she just didn't think it would be absolutely stunning!

This was endless…
After a few moments of being shocked, intrigued, or any emotion bubbling with in. “This is where you live?” She stared up at him with a tilt of her head. She knew it was beautiful, she just didn't think it would be absolutely stunning!
Fennec Pursed his lips and urged his tail to pick up from the ground, his ears still pressed flat to his head. The moment Timid spoke, he let go of it all ad let his feelings take over.He was in such a depressed posture, Timid was surely suspicious. He swallowed nervously, forming the response in his head. If her were to share it, he would share it now. "Just a..touchy subject for me, thats all."he mewed, trying to return the golden she-cats light tone. Already, his ears started to return to normal, although his tail still hung down in a hook near the ground. He knew he shouldn't say anything, but the last part just slipped out, "I kinda have a rocky past."he made his voice a quiet mumble, gritting his teeth and half-hoping Timid wouldn't hear his verbal slip up.

He walked in silence with Timid for a few moments, his mind searching for something to mask up his little sentence, but he found nothing he could use. No matter where he looked in his head. It always either had the words 'family' 'Holly' 'Swift' 'Birch' or 'Thomas' involved in it. Even if he talked about his home, the real reason why he was here because he accidentally escaped from the prison he called his kin. But he couldn't tell Timid that, of course.

Fennec mouth twisted into a competitive smirk as Timid bounded forward, in a way almost teasing him to catch up to her. He smiled, and the heartbeat after she called his name, he tore away after her, keeping a swift and light-hearted run to keep up with the other feline. Already, his little slip up and Timid's question faded to the back of his mind, carried by the breeze conjured up by his fast strides. Pacing, running, stretching his legs in a confident run. The last time he acted so freely was...well, no memory came close to this one. The winds tasted like opportunity and joy, especially since he was chasing after Timid's tail tip playfully.

He slowed down with Timid, taking in breaths and panting with his sudden sprint. For some reason, when he was forced to run or when he made himself exercise, he always felt winded. But when he had to run, wither from a dg or a cat or just for fun, he never felt breathless until he stopped, like all of the tiredness caught up to him after he finished. His smile slightly faded when Timid replied to his bear comment "They are pretty big." he mewed, suddenly remembering something Swift had told him a long time ago, "Expect for...what are they called, again? I think they're called Koalo Bears. Anyways, they're super tiny, and sleep the whole entire day... right? They aren't intimidating at all." Fennec added, before watching Timid's green eyes look at his amber ones. His ears perked with interest at her information; he never really knew that much about animals, and Timid had practically studied every single one out there. He could just imagine his knowledge and his mind, next to Timid's, which was probably about three times more informed than his."Wow. You know a lot about wildlife." he commented, still watching Timid as she looked ahead of her.

Once he explained where they were going, he searched Timid's face for an expression. He was almost proud to see a smile appear on her face. He returned a smaller one, picturing the clearing in his mind. His honey-colored irises sparkled with happiness as she went on. He could only imagine what the Syndicate looked like, but judging from the looks of wonder Timid held as she scanned the territory, this place was a lot better. "It is a pretty place, isn't it? almost... surreal." he looked at the bushes ahead again, searching for some kind of pretty flower to look at or something.

Fennec watched her pass him once she spotted the dark, beryl, evergreen bush. Quick, he quickened his pace to see Timid's reaction to the new place that was bathed in the orangish-green light of the aspens. He kept quiet, not wanting words ruin the zone Timid had slipped into to observe the aspen clearing (I found this picture and i thought it would kinda look like this?), which was stunning to him even now. Fennec looked down at her dazzled expression, he laughed "I wish! But no, not exactly in this place, you know where you tackled me? I live right there. That Ponderosa tree." He slowly turned his head back to the glowing clearing, taking in the sunlight and the zephyrs and the newer and fresher smells swirling around him and intertwining with the peaceful atmosphere. He took a deep breath, and his eyes darted to a flash of movement behind a marked aspen tree. He leaned a little closer to Timid, keeping his voice quiet. "Hey, look. A deer came to say hello." he nodded his muzzle to where the deer was. Timid would like seeing the deer, right? "its right over there.".

(This is just me but i found it a bit ironic when Timid asked 'this is where you live?' because I live in an area thats looks like this X3)

(This is just me but i found it a bit ironic when Timid asked 'this is where you live?' because I live in an area with looks exactly like this X3)
Timid acknowledged her friend’s privacy. She butted his shoulder with her head playfully, nuzzling him. “It's okay if you don't want to tell me.” She looks up at him with a small smile.’”Family is a touchy subject for me too.” She turned away for a second, frowning for a while. She didn't remember any of her real parents. They both weren't apart of her lives. In fact, the queen that raised her told her that she was left to...die. The golden cat was in a deep thought process, and upon hearing his words, she shook her head, turning back to him. “Rocky pasts seem to be apart of all of us. Although their more of a learning experience now that we made it this far in the world.” Her tone, at first was depressing, but soon enough a sparkle of hope entered into her. She had heard him though, and apart of her was curious, but she didn't want to push him. He wasn't a syndicate cat, but still...she learned her lesson a long time ago about being nosy.

Timid pranced around for a bit, staring into the distance as she admired the view. The pretty yellow colored trees, and the different animals. It was all new to her. This scenery. It was something she never seen. It was something that she stared in awe for a while. Her ears flickered towards Fennec, and her eyes slowly turned to him. He looked so sullen. As if he was drained of every type of love. “Don't be sad, Fenny.” She cooed at him, slightly bumping into him to catch his attention. The name had slipped out, but she thought it was a good nickname. Usually--as she thought-- nicknames made everyone feel slightly better. It was just something special about being called something different. “Life's too short for sadness!” She hopped around, dancing within the trees.

That was good. He was playing with her. He was chasing after her. Even if Timid wasn't extremely fast, she purred. Games were fun. She loved playing games. They made her feel young, like she had no worries in the world. The syndicate was long forgotten. And, in that moment all she could see was the two of them in their own world. Running. Feeling the breeze through their pelt.

As they dashed through the beautiful colors of the aspen trees, she began to slow down, looking back towards Fennec with a tired smile. The she cat tipped over, falling onto her back. The leaves seemed to match the sun perfectly, blending in together in a mixture of yellow. Her green hues glanced around, until they landed on Fennec’s own gaze. “Tired already?” She purred, then twitched her ears as she heard his words. “Well, that's the one thing about bears. You don't want to mess with him. That's asking for a death wish.” She rolled around in the grass for a bit, stretching out her body. She noticed how tensed she had been. “Koala bears are adorable!” She cooed. “Which is actually really funny since they're not in the bear family at all. Only because they carry their young in a pouch--similar to the kangaroo actually!--wait… Have you ever seen a kangaroo?”

Timid had been on a few adventures herself. Being apart of the Syndicate and sometimes having the longing to know other locations, so occasionally she dispersed herself, going into twoleg territory and finding some...amazing discoveries. Timid pinned her ears to her head, and slowly she scrambled to her paws and looked towards him. Upon his compliment, she allowed a small, shy smile to cross her maw. “Heh, thanks. I didn't really think anyone would want to know about any other species. Especially is cats-- we’re pretty proud animals.” She looked away again, hiding a familiar tinge that was ready to explode under her skin. “But I assume you know a lot about wildlife. I mean, you live here with a lot of different species,” she giggled. “And… It's a hunt or be hunted world.” Her voice was quiet as she looked down, clawing at the ground slightly with unsheathed paws. “You're either prey or predator. And, every species have a predator above them. They say it's the circle of life.”

Timid hopped up onto her paws, smiling slyly towards the tom. She began padding in front of him. “This place is a real dream. So enchanting...like a myth or something...only it’s real. And, about the only prettiest place I ever seen.” Nature was always pretty, that was for certain. Even beat the two leg’s residence. Since it was so manufactured, and this place was...left alone. Hopefully for many moons to come since Two Legs liked to ruin a lot of things.

Timid stopped looking around as she turned back to trot towards Fennec. She gave him a baffled look, rolling her eyes in a dramatic manner. “Hey! I did not tackle you.” She giggled. “It was on accident. You literally allowed me to run into you.” She bumped her head into his shoulder. “It ever occurred that you could've moved out the way?” She playfully fluttered her eyes towards the tom. But, as he leaned into head, the she cat’s ears pricked in alarm. She tilted her head slightly, but relaxed as he told her that a “deer came to say hello”.

“Hm?” Timid turned her head to stare at the majestic creature. She entered into a crouch position, creeping forward to get s good look at the other species. Deers were pretty. Powerful. Well, a lot bigger than she was. “Wow.” She blinked her eyes, staring as it stared at her. One movement, and the deer would had left. They were skittish animals, but as well as intriguing to observe. “I wish other species could understand our language, and we can understand theirs.” She glanced towards Fennec. “I can practically pick up facts about other animals based on what they do, but I would never understand their intentions for doing such things.” She huffed, but continued to watch the deer in a silent show.

On that thought, this place was an excellent observation area of undisturbed animals. Timid wouldn't mind coming here in the early morning just watching the animals as long as she could. She stepped back, allowing the deer to handle its business and she slowly walked back towards Fennec. She perched herself under his chin, nuzzling softly into his chest.

“I changed my mind,” she began. “I want to stay here, if you still don't mind the intrusion.” She knew, out here, she could make that decision. But, there would also be that one feline that would ruin it all. She just hoped it wouldn't be so soon.

(Oh wow!!!!! That place must be like REALLY pretty!!)

(Oh wow!!!!! That place must be like REALLY pretty!!)
Fennec tensed when he felt Timid's head nuzzling his shoulder. Really, the only people he had really voluntarily curled up with was his siblings, and even then it was mostly from trembling in fear in the shadow of their mother. So the other feline's head was like a numb feeling spreading through his shoulder, to which he didn't know how to react. He only squeaked out the words "Thank You." to Timid, but what he really wanted to say was I could tell you everything...if you wanted me to.. He took a deep breath of the dull forest air and listened to her words, he never knew how much they had in common and how wistful the little golden cat was.

Fennec reviewed his thoughts again, but again, nothing but family popped up. His thoughts were too crowded with the visions of glinting, matte, and pearly claws slashing towards his face. The one time he was pressed against the ground and he felt the sharp claw digging into his foreleg. Although the pain was too great to be there in person, it hurt more to relive it over and over and over again. The hurt must’ve shown everywhere on him, because then he heard Timid talking to him. He let out a tiny laugh, shaking his shoulders. As Timid bumped him, he touched his feathery tail tip on Timid’s pelt in a friendly gesture. “Fenny? Is that my name now?” he teased, a grin engraving itself on his maw. Any sign of a sad demeanor was erased, even the melancholy glint in his eyes was sparkling with laughter at Timid’s fun nickname for him. “Then I guess I’ll call you..Timmy. Heard that one before?” he teased, watching her saying how life was too short to be sad any day. He relaxed his posture, if Timid could find happiness of the black hole of the Syndicate, then he could find happiness with his past behind him.

But could he find it with a grieving heart?

At that, his smile faded and was replaced by a fake one. And the glint in his eyes was violently stamped out like a broken firework. Grieving. He had forgot. His heart was still stone for Swift, buried somewhere in the forest; tucked into the dirt by his cream paws and his sister’s black paws. But then to add on to the rockslide, Holly was caught in the accident: and then there was Fennec. But his short sprint after Timid definitely helped his depressed case.

Fennec watched her stretch on her back in the grass for a moment, and suddenly felt the urge to stretch himself. After his muscles being warmed up by the run, he hadn’t stretched out since he woke up. A jolt of surprise shocked him like lightning when her green eyes landed on him. They were such a pretty color, compared to his dark honey colored orbs. ”Pfft! You wish!”he joked after her remark, rolling his eyes dramatically as he caught his breath.

His tail curled as her voice rang out in the wilderness, talking about the danger of bears. He smiled when she cooed at the grey little animals that were not koalo bears, but Koala bears. He tilted his head as she went on. “Wait, they’re not actually bears?” he exclaimed at her fact then taking in the carrying the young in the pouch part into his head for logic. “aren’t those types of animals called marsupials?” he questioned, remembering the fact, but not how he knew it. He shot his gaze strongly back at Timid as she mentioned a thing called a ‘kangaroo’, at first he was confused, but realized that he knew it. Where did he hear that term? ”I think I know what they are.. Can I get a refresher?” he asked.

Fennec hid his smiled as she watched Timid get to her paws and flatten her ears to a head, in a way, it looked like she was blushing to him. He listened carefully as she talked about knowing species. Personally, Fennec had never thought of cats as a whole species, or they had a whole entire vibe. He had only thought of animals that way: like spiders evil, birds unintellegent, dogs aggressive. But there was seemingly much more to it than that.

He shrugged at her words after that. ”I guess I do. Not as much as you, though.” he felt a blush rising to his cheeks, making his ears angle backwards.Only, it disappeared as he heard Timid talk about there was always something there to hunt you. He breathed deeply, his jaw clenching slightly.

The circle of life. Sure, he would talk about the circle of life forever. But the circle of life always seemed unfair to him. Sure, things died. But was that natural, or the world totally against every move you make? He pushed the thought to the side to unbury later.

Fennec, now slightly annoyed, made his tail rise above him and followed after Timid, her words skipping over his ears as the image of the day Swift was knocked backwards by the blow. There was no harm done then...yet. He cleared his face and tried to focus on what Timid had said, which he only half-heard. “Pretty...yeah.” he mumbled after her. Deciding to focus on the present.

At her excuse, he gave another little laugh, this time it came from his heart. He rolled his eyes in a mocking way after her. When she bumped her head on his shoulder, he flinched again. It was hard to find out how to react so casually to a simple form of interaction. He gave another small chuckle, a smirk on his face. He never really thought of moving, but it was worth it, he met Timid, and spotted a deer.

He was relieved when Timid showed interest in it by crouching and creeping forward slowly. Fennec chose to sit where he was, observing the scene unfolding round him with every flap of a butterfly’s wings. His ears were perked at full max, reaching out to drain any action from the deer and aspen clearing. He tilted his head as she spoke again, flashing a small smile as Timid glanced back at him. ”Yeah.” he nodded in agreement, “I can also walk outside and tell that stupid song bird that wakes me up every morning to shut up and let me sleep.” he kept a level voice at his joke, hoping it would make Timid laugh.

The surprised, jolted feeling of numbness entered him again when Timid stepped back and positioned herself under his fuzzy chin. Each time Fennec felt her against his fur, a prickle of what felt like electricity shot through him. Not again- how could he respond to this? He was just standing there like a tree! In attempt to make this less awkward, he took his tail and rested it next to Timid, close enough for it to brush against her.

A joyful feeling spread through him when Timid spoke again, finalizing her decision to his offer- which he had spaced out on completely. “Of course I don’t mind! I’m glad you're away from that Syndicate place.” He mused, leaning his head back so he didn’t hit Timid’s forehead with his jaw. His eyes searched to see if they could find hers momentarily.

While in this slightly awkward position, Fennec recalled what Timid had said. The Life Cycle. Right, he had his thoughts about that. But what did it really mean. After a life of living something just died at the end? It didn’t matter if they were just born or the oldest cat alive, they died. It was so unfair. Swift had died, Holly had died, and all at the merciless paws of ‘The Life Cycle’. He never really knew what happened to Thomas or Birch, but he knew for a fact: all dead. His eyes misted and his jaw clenched angrily. Anyone he’d ever grown close to had suffered a dark ending around him. Maybe life would keep that wheel spinning: taking it out on Timid just for him to feel all the pain. Could he handle all of that? Slowly, he began to stand. His eyes tearful and down-casted and angry, a faraway look to him as he stood and took two pawsteps backward. He didn't look at Timid’s expression immediately, all he could think of was the one thing in his head: he was bad luck, pure and simple. Who was to say that his bad luck was everybody getting caught in rockslides and being murdered by so-called “family”? If he was really bad luck, then what did that make Timid?

(Oh yes, especially in the Wintertime)

Timid giggled at the tom. “It certainly does fit you,” She smiled. “Fennec...Fenny...I’d imagine that it gets lonely here. And, nicknames must be a rare occurrence for you.” She almost felt bad for him! Timid was pretty extroverted. She was outgoing, easy to approach and start a conversation with. It was easy for her to make friends. With more of the friendlier cats that enjoys her presence, obviously. Not everyone could make it into the tough and daring squad of the syndicate. Her best chances were hunting or being...executed. But, Fennec was hardly around any cats. Who did he talk to? Did he not go crazy while staying in this place? Though, it was gorgeous. Without anyone she could talk to? Timid would never love in such a place. She flicked her ears upon the name Fennec called her, and a purr escaped her maw. “Timmy...I like it.” She tilted her head up towards the sky for a moment. “Fenny and Timmy...it has a ring to it doesn't it? It sounds like it would be perfect together.” She put her head down to stare at the ground, using a claw to unconsciously pick at the dirt.

The young golden cat knew Fennec was hiding something, but she wouldn't push him. Oh no. Never! Timid was not a forceful cat, and she tried her best to respect others spaces. Yet, she longed for him to trust her. Trust was a start to a good friendship. Timid knew she would never lie to him. Sometime she told too much than she should had. Like about the Syndicate. Or, about how she's constantly afraid of things. One thing Timid remember learning as a kit, would be that if another cat knew your fears or weaknesses, they would eventually use it against you. At a tender young age, Timid was influenced that the outside world-- outside your clan-- is filled with cats you can never trust. However, Fennec didn’t look harmful. And, Timid always viewed the world as a happy place. What’s the worst that could happen?

The small golden cat stared at her companion, she wanted to giggle at him. Add some lightning sparks to this dim litted situation. Maybe, he was in a deep thought. What was he thinking about? Who was he thinking about? Is he thinking about me? Timid looked away bashfully, a slight tinge coming under her fur. It wasn’t in a good way. More so, she thought he was thinking differently of her. Like he didn’t want her around. Maybe, she would cause too much conflict. Maybe, he thought he didn’t want her here. Maybe, it was best if she left back to the syndicate. Her nose twitched, indicating that she was becoming deep in thought herself. But, at his words, she kept her inner negativity away. It was a foxbrained way to think that he was...changing his mind. Yet, it wasn’t impossible. At his words, she purred once more, hoping that it sounded normal than what her thoughts contrasted to. ‘’Good. So, you wouldn’t mind going another round?’’ She circled around him, flicking him with her tail in the process. ‘’Maybe, I could chase you this time!’’ She hopped in front of him, throwing herself into a hunting crouch as her rump stayed in the air, adding a little shake to her playful nature. Maybe playing would get their minds off...other things. The sad things. The depressing things.

Timid stared up at her companion, twitching her nose once more. She tilted her head to look up at him. ‘’What, you didn’t know?’’ She asked, rather stunned. Though, she didn’t know why she had to be so surprised. Yet, she had expected Fennec would know a lot about the different animals. Share her knowledge. Give her more. He lived in this open with a variety of animals. ‘’They’re not bears because they carry their young in a pouch. Which is like this large opening where-’’ She stopped, hearing the exact word she was thinking about. Marsupials. Yes, that was what they were. ‘’Yup! Marsupials. Which are animals-- specifically mothers-- who carry their young in a pouch that is connected to their bodies.’’ She felt her ears twitch. It meant she was enjoying this. Giving him knowledge, or even testing his knowledge. He was so smart! And, she felt a type of joy settle within her that he was actually...interested in knowing about wildlife. Looking away from the tom once more, she held a hidden smile. ‘’Oh, well, you know,’’ She started, feeling herself become bashful. ‘’Those large animals with great big paws--almost like a bunny. And, very large bunny ears too! They kinda look like an oversized rabbit! They hop too.’’ She stared at him once more. ‘’They have very powerful legs. You do not want to get hit by those things,’’ She giggled.

Timid stared at the deer once more, knowing that she would never bother it. Watching the process of nature was the best thing of all. She heard Fennec’s compliment, but she didn’t know what to say. So, she only nodded, and a tiny smile graced her maw. Upon his next words, Timid gave the tom a devious smirk, shaking her head and rolling her eyes. ‘’Birds are a blessing,’’ She crowed, more playfully. ‘’You have to learn how to respect them.’’ Besides that, birds were more of a...rare occurrence within the Syndicate. Timid never truly got to hear them sing. She figured they would only sing in the much happier of places. And, the Syndicate? Long from a happy place. Though, she wouldn’t tell Fennec this. Especially since she decided to leave the syndicate behind.

Timid never minded being close to anyone. She was actually, a very affectionate cat. Only in the Syndicate, she hardly got to show her affectionate side. This was because the Syndicate was filled with so many cats that just wanted vengeance. That didn’t know what love was. That was ruthless until their dying days. Timid knew what love was, and on a daily she tried to give it out. Obviously, it was frowned upon. And, it was rejected. Timid knew that Fennec must not have been...so sure. He was frozen. Unmoving as she pulled herself against him. Maybe, she was too close in his comfort zone?

Timid was almost surprised. Shocked, to see him step back. She squinted her eyes, wondering what was wrong with her friend. First, they were being playful-- was it something I said? Timid pinned her ears flat to her head, almost whimpering in a sense. Of course, it was something I said. It’s always something I do. The small golden cat, looked away for a moment, contemplating the decision she just made.

She chose to stay.
Stay here with him.
She chose to live her.
Experience a new side of life.

But, what if now, he didn’t want her here? Timid thought she could see anger filling him. And, she didn’t know whether or not she should talk to him or leave him alone. Maybe, it was best for her to go back. Or, maybe she was moving too fast. It could had been anything, really. After much thinking, Timid finally made her decision. She got up, her tail lowly swishing, before she turned to walk away. ‘’I’m guessing you changed your mind?’’ Her voice was quiet, but her ears stayed perk. ‘’I don’t have to stay if you don’t want me to!’’ Because, you look like you don’t want me to. Maybe, she was being rash. But, she was young. She was scared. And, she just wanted to...belong somewhere. But, whatever the reason it was, Timid knew it was her fault in the first place. Everything was always her fault. Before, he could even say anything, she bounded away. From this gorgeous place.
Perhaps, the Syndicate was where she was born.
And, every chance she had to get away from it.
It had her running back to what she dreaded.

(Ooooh, if it’s not cold in the wintertime, I’M MOVING THERE. )

(Ooooh, if it’s not cold in the wintertime, I’M MOVING THERE.)
Fennec gave Timid a small smile, a playful glint in his eyes as he watched the small golden cat speak to him. ”Actually, I’ve never had one before. Until now.” he laughed playfully, his tone bubbly and light hearted. Actually, he was bending the truth- he remembered vividly when Swift and him were falling asleep on the rain, and she had said to him ‘Fen, did you know I've always loved the rain? It's smells so good’. That night, they both smelled of petrichor and had a fear for Holly, who had not returned until morning. Fen, Fenny and Fennec were the only names he'd ever heard. He smiled in joy as Timid did too, glad she liked his nickname. He felt his ears lie back slightly, and a blush rise to his cheeks at her last comment, his fur prickling slightly. “They sound kind of like a pair...don't they?”
(I AM SCREAMING OML )

Fennec looked ahead of him, remembering some happy empties of the time-minus the claws and the rockslides. He remembered the first time any of the three siblings caught prey. It was Holly, who had been practicing for a quarter-moon. She was so proud when, while he and Swift had been wreathed quietly in Shade, she pinched and scored a plump vole. The smile on her face, and how she enjoyed that vile while giving them a few bits, her eyes were bright as she watched her siblings enjoy her catch. Only, her happy smile was Spoiled when Birch stalked out d the woods with narrowed eyes. Their mother took one look at their content expression, and decided that they didn't deserve it. In seconds, she chased after them and then… he stopped thinking there. Fennec looked down at his shoulder, where a faint scar marked his fur. He remembered every single injury and day perfectly. Which sometimes was like living in a horror scene.

He shook his head and looked back at Timid. Fennec stared back at Timid, he took a dramatic breath of air, “Phew, you’d win. I'm out of breath.” he puffed, flicking his tail tip at the green-eyed cat. “chase me? Are you sure you could catch me?” he joked playfully, stretching his legs dramatically. He mirrored Timid’s position, except he was a little more upright, his tail Curling upward like an unfurling fern frond. He placed his paws squarely and staggered, his ears forward to he could watch Timid’s next move. He straightened up as Timid spoke, at her question, he shook his head as he rose to a sitting position, his tail flapping form one side to another.

Given his current living condition, Fennec thought he would know a lot more about life far away from him like Timid did. He only knew about the simple things: Fennec foxes, local animals. And so on. Since he lived in this alpine-like, riparian area, he knew of deer and elk and moose and squirrels and regular red foxes. Kangaroos? Not so much. But he had seen a few interesting animals in his time: this one time he saw an ermine. No, it was called a stoat. No, wait, it was a weasel. Whatever the rodent was called, he found it so fascinating how in summer it’s coat faded to a dark brown, and in winter it was as the snow itself. He wondered what he would look like. Dark brown in the summer, bleach white in the winter. Boy, he would look funny. At least it would make Timid laugh. His pupils displayed at the thought. Why would it matter if he made Timid laugh? Of course, he wanted to make her smile, but why? He pushed the thought away and turned back to her. “A pouch?” he echoed, his eyes widening more, “That’s so interesting!”. He paused, trying to imagine a gigantic rabbit standing up with a pouch. But kangaroos were somewhat small and red. Still, he had no idea. He bobbed his head along with Timid and focused on his surroundings.

He watched the deer, his gaze taking in every speck of the Evie around him while his eyes shone with the glow of the Aspen leafs, which washed the clearing in a wave of sunny colors. With Timid's reaction to his joke, he returned the small smirk-ish smile; A small laugh bubbling in his mouth. He tilted his head at her next words about the birds. He couldn't imagine waking up to find the air heavy and silent the the ominous clouds of evil the Syndicate must've been shrouded in. He had always overlooked all of the flying creatures around him. Even the smallest made a difference in his daily life. He only nodded, the faint echo of birds rebounding as a thought of the sharp-winged swift, his sister's’ namesake. He could see Swift as a bird: graceful, Delaware, soft, gentle, and underestimated. Not to mention and most importantly, a gift.

Fennec felt the flashback all rush in his mind as Timid moved against him, and he was aight backing away with his gaze stuck to the ground. Just because of his small panic attack, Timid must've been hurt. Because out of the corner of his eye he saw her ears pinned back to her skull, it was all his fault. Because of his little attack, he would be caught explaining. He breathed deeply, this was for her sake. His eyes shot back to the ground when Timid spoke to him.

“Of course I want you to stay here-”

He paused, the images of a rockslide settling and the dust slowly falling to the ground. Again and again, Swifts’ bright eyes becoming dull and glazed, like a puddle. And Holly being swept aside by rocks in a black tabby blur. How he saw his dad and immediately wanted vengeance. And his mother, who he knew was gone. Everyone around him, anyone that was ever pulled close to him. Gone. Dead. Nonexistent. “Look, I don't go around telling everyone about my past, the only ones that know what happened to me are my family; and they're all dead. You see, everyone that has been close to Me has died.” he paused, hesitating for a moment before he could bring his gaze up to Timid’s, ”I don't want you to have the same fate as them because of my bad luck, I just met you, and I don't want that to happen.” he shuffled his paws, pushing aside any part of a thought that included spilling to Timid right here and right know.

He thought it would take ages for him to tell someone, but really, he was easy to crack. Timid was pretty much his only friend, the only living cat that he had known the longest. And already he had told her about how his past was bad, and his family is dead.

He sure has great conversation starters. And he hoped that Timid would still take up His hospitality, even though he was a bad omen.

(Sorry to break it to you, but it's super cold in the Winter)
Timid gave a slight wide of her green orbs. It was hard to believe that the tom didn't have a nickname! Everyone had a nickname - right? Even within the syndicate Timid was known as Titi. Or, maybe even something less thrilling such as a ‘Coward’ and the occasional ‘Scardey Cat’. Though a name was a name. And a nickname was unique. “I had all sorts of nicknames! Like Coward and Scaredy Cat!” She blurted out, as if that was a good thing. She didn't notice it at first, but realized that the names...sounded bad. So, she pinned her ears to her head, wanting to shrink in the tom’s presence. “Okay...those don't sound very appealing.” But, what else was to be expected of the Syndicate? It was a lonely cold place. Rough exterior. Tough interior. When the tom agreed that their names sounded like a pair, Timid thought of two turtle doves. She didn't notice the slight blush that the tom hid, or how sheepish he must had been when she first brought it up, but Timid simply blinked her eyes and smiled at him. “Yep! I've been always told that two is better than one.” She purred, a content feeling inside her as she happily remembered those words. Only from who, she didn't remember. A team was better than going solo after all. And, Timid felt that her and Fennec would make a great team.

When a delicate calmness settled between the two, Timid stared at her friend for a moment. He seemed to be deep in thought. Maybe, he was thinking about his family. Or, something important. The small golden cat didn't want to ruin his thoughts. So, she continued to look around the area, her eyes landing on a soft pastel colored butterfly as it hovered over a flower bed. She started to imagine the language of the butterflies, and wondered if they different in any way from a cat. As soon as that thought left her brain, she somehow crossed the Syndicate. Just thinking about the place made her upset. She was very depressed, but being around the other animals brought life to her lonely heart. And, Fennec had showed her this. He showed her a new side of life, and he had soared her life. Timid was afraid of so...many, many things. It was apart of her nature to be frightened. She couldn't help but scream on impulse when she met the unimaginable. Or, met anything that suddenly jumped out at her. On the plus side, Timid found herself to be marvelously friendly, which made up for the fact that she would tremble at anything and everything. The she cat shook her head, scattering her thoughts around. She saw Fennec staring at his shoulder, and she thought she caught a glimpse of a scar. She wanted to ask 'How did you get your scar?' But, maybe it wasn't the right time to be asking such questions.

Soon after, Timid immediately jumped to her paws, entering into a playful crouch. She giggled upon hearing Fennec's words. "Give up already? Well, I am a hunter. We had to practice running at fast speeds." She stated proudly, once again embracing her syndicate culture. It wasn't anything to be proud of. Timid could visionally remember her hunter trainee. One of brute force who made her run for days it seemed! Her small legs always tired out, and when she slowed down, he would yell at her. Timid became apprehensive when being yelled at. It made her want to run further and longer than she ever could. But, with her stubby legs it was still hard to keep up with much longer legs like the ones Fennec had. Timid shot up once more, almost ready to bound off again. Her eyes were shining with mischief, and she noticed how Fennec was showing off his well brawny legs. Well athletic and powerful for running. Obviously, he could beat her. "Yeah - no need to show off," she brushed her tail to the side in a bashful manner. "But it's all about the technique. Pretty sure I can corner you like the last finch I caught." Fennec was pretty smart. It was like a game of cat and mouse. He was the prey, and she was the predator. The mouse ran, and the cat tried any technique in order to catch them. Because mice were fast, no doubt. Other than that, the she cat deemed she was very tired. Even if she learned repeatedly to keep up endurance. Timid was built for endurance. She lasted longer than a lot of other cats because all hunters did was run. Run. Run. And more running. She was glad there was no one in her ear and yelling at her to continue running. She could relax for once.

Animals - as in other species, always been a type of admiration for the young she cat. In her free time, which she rarely had, she would watch the birds, or the insects, even she was aware of the predator animals that every cat needed to watch out for. The thing was; the forest was large. For a she cat her size, she was in deep awestruck at it. Sometimes, it was so large, you would get lost in it! Which happened on more than a couple occasions for this feline. At one point she found herself crossing two leg territory, almost being hit by many monsters. Obviously, she was panicking. She was beyond scared. She thought she was going to die. It was a miracle that she even made it back to the forest. Where the trees were able to lead her home. One thing she did learn while venturing out? So many different animals. The forest was not limited to the common species. In the outside world, there were plenty of them. Even if she didn't understand their language, she stayed long enough to observe their peculiar ways. "Pouches do sound nice," she thought about the little makeshift bag that was attached to any animal considered a marsupial. "But, I think I prefer nursing my young - out of a pouch. If given the chance, I have any." She nodded, cheerily. It was a rare occurrence when Timid thought about kits of her own. Since she was young, all she focused on was surviving and hunting. Kits were cute and all, but if she were to have any in the syndicate. They surely wouldn't survive. Kits hardly ever survived the syndicate.

They were on to a good start. A great friendship. Earlier, Fennec had invited the small feline to stay with him. She didn't know how she could ever repay him for such a wonderful proposition. Internally, she felt that she would had been a disgrace. Unwanted company. What if danger came around? Timid knew how to run and avoid it, but she didn't know a thing about fighting. Nothing about her was sharp or athletic. Sure, she had ran, built up her stamina and endurance, but that was it. She took up his offer, and even gave him an affectionate nuzzle. Which was meant to be friendly, but had ulterior motives to it. This has went unbeknownst to Timid however since she remained to be a sweet feline with no intentions of breaking their friendship apart.

Suddenly, he had pulled away. He backed up out of a warm embrace, and it made the she cat feel baffled. Why had he backed away? Did she do something wrong? That's what her first initial thought was, and she started to consider his offer to be a failure. Maybe, it was best that she did leave. As she was about to, the she cat stopped in her tracks. Her body was still turned away from him, but her ears stayed alert. She felt herself become tensed when she did turn around to face him.

She wished she hadn't. A part of her was frightened, and another part had felt bad for her friend. When he talked about parts of his past, Timid flattened her ears to her skull. She didn't know what to say. She felt a whimper escape her maw, her eyes growing wide at his words. She shook her head vigorously. "I'm scared of death, Fenny! I don't know if-" Timid paused, breathing in deeply. Okay, now here she was about to have a breakdown. Her tail was twitching irritably and her eyes flitted around every corner. Death was scary. Yet, it was inevitable. If she chose to go back to the Dusk Syndicate, wouldn't she be torn apart anyway? That was sure to happen. But, in this open, if she were to die...Timid didn't want to think about that.

The tom sounded so sorrowful. And, why wouldn't he? His entire family died is what Timid picked up on. Truthfully, she had no words. Nothing to say. Possibly, this was because she was from the Syndicate. Cats died everyday. She was left to die on the outskirts by her own mother. Her eyes held a blank stare for a moment. Just blinking repeatedly at looking at her friend. She didn't bother to move from her spot. "Hey," she spoke softly. Very softly, that one needed to strain their ears in order to hear her. "I'm from the syndicate - remember? If I survived there for so long," she paused. Surviving by hiding, begging, cornering herself. She continued, "then I could survive anything!" She wanted to bring anything lighthearted to the conversation. It was steering onto a dark path pretty quickly. That was the last thing they needed.

The she cat used her two front paws to grasp onto Fennec's shoulders lightly. "If you're bad luck, then so am I. Fenny and Timmy is a team," she purred. "We're a pair, remember?" She giggled, and let go of his shoulders as she sunk to the ground. The golden cat stared at her friend with bright moon-like eyes, and she hoped she had sparked some kind of inspiration into him. Even so, maybe she was good luck. A dynamic duo. Who knows.
