Cinderflight stalked a plump thrush as it pecked at a worm buried in the ground. Wriggling her haunches, she licked her lips and imagined how impressed her family would be when she brought home this catch. She pounced, landing squarely on the bird. It let out a shrill sound that was quickly cut off. Cinderflight raised her head and looked around. When she saw a couple of birds lifting off from a nearby tree, she let out a disappointed sigh. Well, there goes two perfectly good birds I could've caught. Picking up her thrush, she buried it by the tangled roots of an old oak tree. Cinderflight tasted the air and slunk into the undergrowth to catch more prey.

She appeared from a clump of ferns, mouth full with three mice. "Okay," she mumbled. Dropping the mice, she doubled back and dug up the thrush and a vole. She placed her paw protectively on the pile. "Yeah, I think this is enough," she purred with amusement. "I might've hunted a bit too much."
