Coldstripe paced around the den, his tired blue eyes drooping. The sleep deprived old tom felt as his paws lifted and crash landed onto the ground, his tail lashing furiously. Half way into the night the tom had forgotten what he had even been angry about. Starclan not talking to him? No, they'd talked to him last only a few moons ago.. herbs not being sorted? No, he had sorted them during the night, before he had become angry.. Was he just getting too old..? His fur had already started to gray with age.. He shook away the horrid thought, finding that impossible.

"Coldstripe!" Shadepaw called out to the old tom. The black and white apprentice was padding up to the medicine cat den, the smell of herbs strong. He wrinkled his nose at the smell.
"I have a thorn in my paw."

He sighed, padding over to the young cat. Coldstripe ripped the thorn out, padding off into a darker part of the den to grab some cobweb, thyme, and Coltsfoot. The medicine cat came back with a pulp of Thyme and Coltsfoot mixed and cobweb. He trickled the juices of the pulp on the remaining cut, setting the cobweb down, realizing he needed to get Marigold, which he didn't have. The aggressive frail elderly tom shrugged it off and covered the pad with a bit of cobweb. The apprentice shouldn't have a thorn in their paw anyway, he thought bitterly.

"Ouch," Shadepaw muttered as the medicine cat patched up his cut with the bitter herbs. He knew that Coldstripe, the grumpy medicine cat, would be annoyed at him for getting a thorn in his pad.
"Thanks, Coldstripe," he said, running out of the den.
