Pinepaw twitched her small nose. This didn't smell like the apprentices' den. She swore she'd fallen asleep. What happened? The skinny calico opened her eyes and looked around. It was lush and smelled of nature. There were stars in the sky.
"This is StarClan, isn't it? So, my lack of appetite finally finished me off."she said, half to herself. I wonder how the others will react. Oh, I bet they'll just bury the random apprentice, say how sad this all is and forget about it.

(She isn't dead, she's asleep but she doesn't know that)

This IS Starclan. But you aren't dead. Fawntree mewed. Her kit. Her beautiful little kit, who was so, so sad. She knew she wasn't supposed to do this, but she COULDN'T allow anything to happen to Pinepaw. You see Pinepaw, I'm.....I'm your mother. @Shadeleaf

Pinepaw was a bit taken aback by the news. She looked straight into the she-cat's eyes, the same blue eyes, and turned her gaze away.
"So, why am I here?" she asked quietly. Her mother. She'd never met her, all she knew was that she died a little after Pinepaw was born. Why now, what did she want from me?

You're here.......because I hated seeing you so sad. Fawntree mewed. This was......much harder than she expected. Why couldn't she have gotten the nerve sooner? Why? Her precious daughter probably wouldn't trust her now. And why should she? @Shadeleaf

Pinepaw nodded silently. If she hated seeing me so sad, why didn't she do anything about it? Why did she leave me alone? Why did I let her go?
"I'm fine." was all she said. The usual emotionless reply she always gave when someone was worried about her. Tears were falling from her previously dull blue eyes, now much brighter with emotion.

That's what you say, but you're not. Fawntree mewed. I'm so sorry. I've wanted to see you for a long time, but cats that aren't medicine cats or leaders aren't supposed to get visited. But......I couldn't stop any longer. Moving forward unsurely, she began to do something she hadn't done for a long, long time. She began tenderly grooming Pinepaw's fur. @Shadeleaf

Pinepaw was surprised by the soft grooming of her mother. All this time she wanted to see me. Pinepaw wanted to tell her how upset she was, how she felt about everything, Breezekit's death and the ShadowClan raid. Instead she just kept crying, letting out emotions buried away for moons.

I'm so sorry. Fawntree mewed softly, moving to groom her daughter's shoulders. She couldn't imagine what Pinepaw was thinking, but she felt she had definitely done the right thing by coming. @Shadeleaf

Pinepaw looked up with her tear-filled eyes.
"What do I do?" she asked in a quivering voice. She'd lost all her emotions. Now they were coming back. What was she supposed to do? All the things she'd seen. All the cats she pushed away.

What do you do? I don't know my darling. I'm not all that wise you know! Fawntree gave a small joke. Sobering up, she mewed Take care of yourself. Talk to others. Try and make friends. You'd be surprised how nice cats can be. @Shadeleaf
