LOTUSWHISPER

Deep within the dense, shimmering forest that made up StarClan’s vast hunting grounds, a lone figure silently sat in complete silence, staring far off into the distance while hopelessly lost in thought. His warm amber-hued fixed on nothing in particular, yet seeming to search for something that was not there. How strange it was for the young once-WindClan tomcat that he was here, comfortably in the afterlife, and still left unsatisfied. He felt selfish and wondered why things were so unclear, why he was still not at peace despite his life being over and done with. It was frustrating for him, but the StarClan warrior did not complain, nor did he hold a grudge. He just sat there, alone, reminiscing in what could have been. The names of his family, his friends, his own apprentices, and even the cat he once loved were fuzzy in his memories, despite not being here for that long at all. It was pathetic really, and a disgrace to those who were still alive out there somewhere. The big dark-furred tomcat sighed, curling his tail around himself. This place was supposed to be a clan warrior's paradise, a worthy retirement after a long life of loyalty and hard work, yet it felt too quiet and too solitary for his own liking.

The hulking mass that was Hawktalon was... picking flowers? Yep. You heard right. Picking flowers. This large tom, despite his size, was a gentle giant. He picked flowers for the kits among the stars, watching their faces break out into smiles and giggles; except Talonkit. That one was a difficult nut to crack, it seemed. He had finished picking some when he noticed another cat, sitting in a clearing. He hummed softly, as to announce his presence before padding over, flowers still in his jaws. The cinnamon splotched tom sat down beside the other cat, gazing out across the lands as he did. Hawktalon set down the flowers, nudging one towards the other tom.

"Snowdrops," Sounded his deep mew. "First sign of spring. At least, that's what my sister always told me." At the mention of his sister, he let out a deep and rumbling purr. "The name's Hawktalon. What's yours?"

LOTUSWHISPER

Gently shaken from his far-off thoughts, the massive black-and-gray tomcat turned his head to see another tomcat, who seemed just as massive as he was in size. His bright amber-hued eyes flickered to the very beautiful flowers that were clasped in the big stranger’s jaws, following them as the neat bushel was rested onto the ground and nudged towards him. “Snowdrops…” The dark-furred StarClan feline murmured, repeating the name of the flower so that he could remember that for later on. His newfound companion would soon introduce themselves as Hawktalon. Huh, that was a nice name. “Lotuswhisper.” The once-WindClan warrior remarked, his tone quite softened.

Carefully, with one big paw, he would extend it towards the flowers, gently touching the delicate white pedals. He had always loved flowers while he was still alive. Hell, he had loved everything about nature. From the buzz of busy bees, to the cool breeze that swept through the plains. Up here, amongst the stars, there were many pretty sights to behold, but it wasn’t the same―although he didn’t know how to explain that to anyone. He glanced over at Hawktalon, wondering if it was too drastic to ask a question so serious so soon after meeting him. “Do you ever… wish you could have a complete redo? You know, at life?” Lotuswhisker said, hesitatingly due to the reasons stated right before.

The hulking former ShadowClanner grinned happily as the tom beside him took the flowers. That's how you make friends!! He turned his gaze forward, green and yellow eyes watching the star-studded grasses that lined StarClan territory. His ears flicked as his companion introduced himself as Lotuswhisper. "Badass name." He remarked quietly to himself. He wondered if he had ever met this cat, back when he was alive. He had died at only 27 moons, so he found it unlikely.

The next words from his new found friend caused him to look back at Lotuswhisper. He didn't hesitate a moment. "Every single day. I have siblings and kids back down in ShadowClan. I check up on them every once in a while; my sister is doing a damned good job at raising them and her own kids." He had a small, sad smile as he spoke about his sister. Dappledleaf was a badass. She always had been.

❖ Hearing the other tomcat’s reaction to his name made the dark-furred warrior utter a soft amused huff, a small smile slipping onto his expression. He had never really been complimented upon his name, so it was an unknown feeling, but a good one nonetheless. The massive feline released a low exhale from his parted jaws, staring off into the distance once more, trying to recall his time with the living and all the things he had experienced. How old had he been when he died? Twenty-five? Twenty-seven moons old? Somewhere around there, surely. It hadn't even been that long ago, Lotuswhisper had just never cared enough to keep track. He felt tired here, all the time, like he could sleep for a million moons and never ever wake up. Nothing would change.

Stars above, what was he even thinking? None of his thoughts made sense, even to him, but then again, it had always been that way. All the questions he had could never be answered here. No, they had to be somewhere... out there, back in the living world. Lotuswhisper's long tufted ears perked up when Hawktalon immediately answered his question, peaking his overall interest in a strange way. He listened silently as his companion briefly recalled his past life, in ShadowClan, where he had siblings, and even children. Hadn't Lotuswhisper had children once too? And a mate? What had happened to them? And his siblings to... So many cats... Gone now. "You sound like you have quite the family. They sound really nice." He said quietly, "Is there... any way to go back?" He had heard of cats coming back from the dead during his time in WindClan, but he'd never seen it happen with his own two eyes.

Hawktalon grinned at his new friends huff. He was doing great. After being lost in thought for a moment, Lotuswhisper's words shook him. A.. way back? He'd met a kit who'd sent other cats, but wasn't too sure. A look of thought and concentration formed on his maw, knitting his catbrows. You could almost see the smoke flowing out of his ears and hear the river running in his head as he worked the last braincell he owned. There-

"-is a way!!" His triumphant mew finally rang out, a stupid little smirk on his face. Hawktalon turned to his new-found friend, his smirk growing. "There is a way!! We just have to find where you're buried!" He stood, polydactyl paws flexing and digging his claws into the soft soil of StarClan. "What Clan were ya? I'm sure we'll find ya body there!!"
