Patrols are organised by the leader. Usually, they mention you in a long post of instructions. Any cat can be assigned as long as you haven't specifically told them not to assign you. I'm pretty sure you can also ask them to put you on patrol if there's room. Of course, kits don't have any patrols and apprentices need a warrior, usually (but not always) their mentor. There's optional events suggested by the leader, but not compulsory. Honestle, I've never asked or refused to be on patrol so that's all I now. I've been on 3 or 4 so far.
