Still, he slowed down when he caught an odd scent flooding into his mouth.

"Whoa, what's that?", Darkpaw asked, turning to Bluegorse.

That was definitely a lot of titles and Bluegorse didn't even want to try to follow them all! "Ah, but you forget! Even the strongest leader can be felled by the tiniest of things. Even a scratch on the pad can lead to bad things if it gets infected.."

Sure, they had a capable medicine cat.. Bluegorse hoped. Tallmarsh rarely seemed to be around in the recent moons, and that was.. concerning to say the least.

At Darkpaw's question, he sniffed the air and hesitated. What.. was that Twolegs? "Um, let's not hang around and find out what exactly it is. It might be Twolegs and we don't want to risk leading them back to our camp."

Finishing up with marking, he started to head back to camp. "Come on you two, no sense in standing around! I'll let Duskfeather know about the Twolegs."

Darkpaw nodded, then raced ahead, excited to tell the other apprentices what he'd been doing.

And my dad. Oh, he's gonna be so impressed!

Swifthare ran back to camp easily keeping up with the exicted apparentice trying to stick with the patrol till they were back in camp her tail flicking with swift swishes

Mintfrost's tail flicked behind him as he waited for the others to catch up. "The cat scents are stale here," he murmured, "which might make a good hunting spot if we can stick to the areas that aren't burned." His hopes were on birds or ground prey that burrowed for the leaf-bare. To the others, he tilted his head to ask, "Because it seems rather quiet, it may be beneficial to split up. Dustbreeze?" Mintfrost's expression softened as he gauged hers. "If you feel comfortable, you and Leopardpaw can split off and see if there's any prey in that direction." He didn't think he'd need to remind them not to stray far, they weren't kits out for the first time. As for him and Herringpaw, he imagined they could scout around and at least manage to land a couple scores. They couldn't afford to let Thunderclan down.

Dustbrreze followed quietly with the group, happy to be out with her apprentice Leopardpaw had worked so hard and done so well lately, she was truly beginning to look and act like a warrior. It was a bittersweet feeling.

"Of course, we'll make the most of it." Dhe said casting a playful glance at her apprentice, perhaps they could have a friendly little competition. Her jade eyes turned back to the other two cats.

"Well, good luck on your hunt. Leopardpaw, want to see who can catch more prey?" Her tortoiseshell coat pricked happily at the chance to have some fun with the young cat.

Herringpaw followed the rest of the patrol, though he was on autopilot; his mind was elsewhere. He hummed contentedly as he watched a leaf flutter around in the slight breeze. He knew he probably should have been focused on their task, but his thoughts and attention were all over the place. The silver apprentice's ears perked with curiosity as he noticed a bird flying past overhead; he watched it go longingly, hoping they would find plenty others during this hunting patrol. It should be quite likely, since today was a warm, sunny day, and it seemed lots of things were trying to enjoy the nice weather. Herringpaw was feeling himself drift into pure bliss with the sun warming his pelt when he snapped back to attention as he heard the words "split up".
He tilted his head as Dustbreeze and Leopardpaw began to maneuver away from him and Mintfrost. He smiled brightly up at his mentor, happy to get some quality time with him. "So, what're we gonna do, Mintfrost? I want to hunt badger! I'll claw their throats! And slash their eyes out!" he hopped around on his paws, his hindquarters quivering with excitement as he sliced his claws at the air, his blue eyes bright. He then circled his mentor. "Is that what we're gonna do? Huh? Is it? Is it?"

Leopardpaw followed after the patrol, her jaws repeatedly stretching wide in a yawn again and again. She flicked her tail and remained close to Dustbreeze, occassionally glancing at the other two. Fighting a badger? No cat could do that alone, much less an apprentice. The Bengal found herself rolling her eyes tiredly before focusing on her mentor. "Sure," she replied, offering a smile to Dustbreeze. Leopardpaw nodded, accepting the competition before turning and padding to her own section of the area, crouching down and parting her maw to scent.
