"I barely learn anything, I just wear ear plugs and write and cook a lot." She shrugged. "Sometimes we get actual work, mostly I get to work on what I want. I like researching animals. The cooking is to help us get skills for when we live alone, though I'm perfectly fine already. The other kids in my class need more help than me, I'm just there so I don't yell in class."

"Breakfast is soon, so school should be pretty soon." She finished organizing, shoving her folders in her bag.

"Carmen! Carmen, wake up!" A blonde girl was sat up in bed, busy braiding her long hair. She was talking to her twin sister in the bed next to her. Crystal already had her glasses on her face, them slowly sliding down her nose as she braided her hair. Her sister, Carmen, didn't like waking up early but she had to put up with it.
Carmen and Crystal hadn't been here as long as most other kids. The 11-year-olds' parents had dealt with Carmen being cross-eyed, but the cost of the glasses for both of them and the care required made them give up their children. That was bout five years ago. Most kids had been in the system since they were really little. Most kids don't remember their parents at all.
Crystal continued attempting to wake up Carmen, and the cross-eyed girl eventually got up. "Crystal!" She said in a mocking voice. "Crystal, I don't wanna!" she stuck out her tongue as she spoke, swinging her legs off the bed to grab her belongings.

A loud whistle-like sound resonated around the house; loud and high pitched.

...Breakfast...

The children hurried to finish get ready and silently raced down the stairs into the large dining room. Where headmistress was. She didn't look at them as she spoke.
"Brats! It took you two extra minutes to get down here this morning! I am not impressed! What is your reasons for this?" She waited for a reply.

Christopher sank into himself, looking down at his shoes and not looking at the strict woman before them. He slipped his hands into his pocket and remained with eyes on the toe of his shoes and his head slightly bent downwards. He wasn't sure why he felt shame at this aspect of being two minutes late, it didn't make much sense, especially since it made no sense that they were being yelled at for it, but nonetheless he wouldn't want to look at her.

Quincy kept partially off to the side of the rest of the children, not wanting to become squished between them. Sometimes even having people surrounding her was enough to make her uncomfortable, so she remained where she was, looking at the woman in front of her. She felt no shame at this, she was actually kind of glad that they were all late. Living by the rules of someone else was something that she didn't want to do with her life, but unfortunately had to.
