Duckpaw walked over to to creek, being careful to sit at the right angle so her shadow wouldn't cover the water much. "What now?" she asked Salmonsong eagerly.

Grinning she jumped in after him, causing a splash. " good. Now move your paws like your digging ....but...your digging the water .." she instructed . Raising her paws, she stretched out her right paw but with her paws spread a bit and did the same motion over and over again. " don't forget to kick with your hind legs either "

Duckpaw looked at the pond, waiting for any fish to come by. Suddenly, she spotted two blobs moving in the water. She decided to try and catch the bigger blob to impress her mentor. Sticking her paw into the water, she quickly clawed it up. But the bigger blob turned out to be a leaf instead of a fish. "I...I thought it was a fish!" She blinked apologetically at Salmonsong and looked back into the water for another fish.

Salmonsong smiled,” I’m really proud of you, tell you what, instead of dropping off this prey for the elders or kits, I’ll let you eat this fish, since it’s your first...” she meowed. Salmonsong knew it was expected that apprentices give their prey to the elders, kits, and queens, but she knew her first prey would be something she’d want to enjoy herself.

He starts to kick and says “look I’m swimming” he goes under and then comes back up laughing
