Gleaming was walking around the nursery trying to strengthen his twisted leg. Then he noticed a kit watching others play. But he didn't go with them. Maybe he would like to talk with me? So we walked over.
"Hey, I'm Gleamkit. What is your name? I haven't met you before."

Hollowkit's eyes widened a fraction as he realized someone was talking to him. Gleamkit. The tom's eyes shifted instead to his mother.

She isn't talking to anyone.

Then again, there weren't any warriors in the den, and he didn't like to be rude.

That could get him killed.

Hollowkit looked back to Gleamkit, his face blank.

"Hollowkit."

He had half a mind to ask him his age, but his mother didn't ask questions and most cat's didn't seem to like them anyways. At least coming from a kit.

But this is a kit.

Hollowkit padded out of the nursery, his dark gaze fixed upon the fresh-kill pile.

Grouse. I need a grouse. Mother's favorite.

At least, he thought it was. Now that he thought about it, she didn't like to eat anything, really.

Well, she's less reluctant to eat grouse.

Lost in his own mind, he slammed into someone, another kit! Hollowkit sighed.

Don't have time for this.

Not even skipping a beat, he murmured; "sorry", then continued on his way.

"Well Hollowkit. How old are you? I'm 5 1/2 moons old. I'll be an apprentice soon if Icestar allows me. How about you? Are you going to be a warrior?" Hollowkit hadn't seemed friendly, but if Gleaming tried to talk to him he might warm up.

Lixardkit sat away from the other kits. An apprentice had recently taught her a new battle move and she had been practicing it all day. She was a bit winded now. The other kits were just meddlesome brats that did nothing but play. She just wanted to rest up now.

This kit is... energetic. Would Mother approve?

She didn't seem to talk to anybody, regardless of energy.

Ah well.

Disregarding the first question, he answered the second. He'd spent a long time thinking it over before.

"A warrior name brings death, and also salvation. Learn to defend yourself, but die doing so. Honor, and loss. All the same."

He closed his eyes and turned away.

It was not an easy question.

You should make him purr all over you, you only need to wait five more moons and you can be his mentor, and it’ll be cute the voice in their head whispered
