"OK," he purred, then jumped back to the previous branch. He scrambled for a bit, and nearly fell, but he sank his claws in and kept upright. He turned to look at Ashpaw. "I think you had better climb down."

Well, I reached this far... I mustn't fall now.
Ashpaw tried to concentrate on his grip on the bark. He slipped a bit, but he kept his claws well sheathed and tried to stop himself from trembling. He had to breathe and control his paws.
When he was close enough, with a small leap he reached the branch below where Harefire sat waiting for him.
After coming so high I guess climbing down isn't so scary anymore...

Harefire gave him a nod, then began to climb straight down. He kept his gaze ahead of him, watching the apprentice like a hawk. He ignored the branches, and carried on down, feeling the bark with his hind-paws. Finally he touched the solid ground and stood back to let Ashpaw pass.

Starclan, please let me go down safely!
Ashpaw followed Harefire silently, but his paws shaked and he knew he would jump to reach the ground more quickly. As soon as he was a dozen foxtail-lenghts from the ground, he leaped and landed on a huge root covered in moss. He stopped to catch his breath.
