Just then he had let out an embarrassing yelp. He was not supposed to yelp. That was weird. He grumbled before he turned to her and put on a small smile. Although he was not happy that he had yelped, he was thankful for her company. He was starting to get lonely and really needed to socialise. “Good morning,” he greeted. His voice was nowhere near as cheerful as hers, but he was happy to see her, and it showed through his eyes, rather than through his voice. “Have you been swimming? RiverClan’s supposed to be the ones swimming, not us,” Cardinalsnake remarked, wrinkling his nose in disgust as he watched her wash her paws. He wasn’t disgusted by the fact that she was washing dirty water from her paws, and he wasn’t even disgusted by the thought that despite being normal cats, RiverClan swam. No, that didn’t bother him much. Instead, he was disgusted that his perfect fur was now damp with dirty water. “You know how I feel about getting my fur dirty. I need to look my best at all times,” he complained. He didn’t sound angry though. He wasn’t mad, just disappointed that he had to fix his fur up again. Halfgaze was one of those cats that he couldn’t be mad. One reason was because she was the deputy and if he lost his cool, she could punish him for accidentally offending or hurting her (though he doubted she would do such a thing to him) and second, she was his best friend and he just couldn’t get mad at her, no matter what she did he had to keep his cool. Cardinalsnake could be a pretty nasty cat if someone ruffled his fur the wrong way, both idiomatically and literally. He could be an absolute angel and acted as one every day, but he was truly rather dark on the inside. After all, he was Cardinalsnake for a reason.
(I'm so sorry! I totally forgot about this ;n; You can just yell at me if I do it againXD Virtually punch me over PM )

Halfgaze purred triumphantly as she heard Cardinalsnake's little yelp. She didn't acknowledge the teasing annoyance in Cardinalsnake's voice and instead smiled and teased, "Aw, you're cute when you're scared!" Some might have construed those words as flirting, but Halfgaze rarely flirted. She wasn't worried that Cardinalsnake would think she was flirting. He knew her well enough to know that that was not her intention. Cardinalsnake's greeting wasn't nearly as chipper as Halfgaze's had been, but she looked up at his eyes while she washed her paws and saw the missing happiness swirling within their depths. "No," Halfgaze said calmly without moving her eyes from her paws, her tone teasing as she added, "I was out hunting. What have you done this morning, lazy bones?" She knew that Cardinalsnake hated water, and therefore knew that her getting him wet could hardly have made the tom happy. Her theory was confirmed when he complained. Bursting into laughter, Halfgaze ignored him and continued to dry her paws. He clearly wasn't mad at her. The two were best friends after all. SHe had no idea what was going on in his head and her status didn't occur to her at all.
