Hiraeth
(n) A homesickness for a home you can’t return to, or that never was.

General Description

There is something so sweet and delicate about a kitten opening their eyes for the first time to look out at the world and sense color for the first time. To see things never seen before, and set their vision upon a thing that would forever be a part of them. Most kittens open their eyes to see the loving faces of their parents, or the curious stares of littermates. Some gaze up at a brilliant blue sky, a spectacular sunset, or a flood of rain cascading over rich soil and intense green leaves. And a few open their eyes to see things that would later haunt their dreams and bring fear and uncertainty to them for the rest of their days. In this small group of unfortunate kittens is little Hiraeth, named in her mother’s last dying breaths and left with her litter of siblings and father to face the world without a mother. She was born amidst a storm, her parents in the shelter of a fallen log. Her mother died during childbirth, Hiraeth being the only kitten to receive a name- the rest named by their father, who subsequently left them on the border of ShadowClan for a border patrol to find and bring home. Hiraeth is a somber and quiet kitten, hardly as relaxed and fun loving as her siblings. She protested profoundly at the idea of being renamed, and kept Hiraeth to be her prefix for as long as she could. Hiraeth had been the first in her litter to open her eyes, and had spent weeks watching her siblings stumble around blindly without opening their eyes. The moment her eyes opened was forever burned into her mind- the image of a molly wailing while lighting struck the ground in the background hard to forget. The kitten sports a full and healthy coat, a mottled brown and orange with patches of white here and there. The tortoiseshell kitten has a ochre green gaze, the color darkening near the pupil and brightening the further away it was. One of her paws is white, without any of the mottled black and orange pattern marring it, and there are a few more white patches on her chest, back, and ears.

Names
~These are possible suffixes I may give Hiraeth~

Hiraethkit > Hiraethpaw > Hiraethdream > Hiraethheart > Hiraethmint

Why the suffix of dream? I’m planning on having Hiraeth develop a strong bond with Daydream and request for the same suffix to keep the medicine cat’s legacy alive as long as possible, even when Daydream is still alive.

Heart would be for the genuine love and care that Hiraeth holds for ShadowClan despite all of the different cats and personalities within the Clan borders. She doesn’t hate anybody even if their opinions differentiate from hers, and she wants to be able to provide them all with the same level of care and help despite their differences.

Mint would be for her talent with herbal remedies and discovering a few new ones on the way.

Extras

>Hiraeth doesn’t focus on StarClan as much as the typical medicine cat, choosing to put her faith in physics remedies. She does take dreams seriously in terms of prophecy, but she doesn’t believe that StarClan is almighty and omnipotent and thus won’t put her faith in them when dealing with matters in the physical plane of existence. She understands Daydream’s strong dislike for StarClan and while she is certain it isn’t StarClan causing the nightmares, she won’t approach the subject until the time is right.

>Hiraeth is Aromantic Asexual, and doesn’t waste her time on thoughts of romance. While she did consider the possibility of raising kits, she decided that it would be too much hassle to try and be a good mother and mate and abandoned the idea a long time before she was even an apprentice. She admires the lifestyle of a Medicine Cat, as they’re, in her eyes, free from the need to find a mate or raise kits like many cats believe is their key to happiness.

>Sometime I plan on having Hiraeth go on a trip to find her father to figure out more about her mother and her ancestry.

>Hiraeth is not a cheerful cat. She’s very serious and quiet, although she does find joy in things that most cats would find silly.

>Woly Poly @king kaleb!
