Being close to his family, Birchkit is aware that they are his 'safety net', of sorts. As close as he can be with his mother and siblings, he has quickly learned that compassion is important, and so hopes to act as the helping paw that soothes the upset. As such, he is approachable, and is friendly to those who need help. Being so friendly early on in life has helped in paving the way to his future, though in a very different sense.

"I think I'll let you go first."
There's no doubt that Birchkit is quiet, despite being sociable as he grows. With so much trust in his family, he's quite shy around strangers and only starts to speak when he feels safe, usually when his mother is around to protect him if things go south. A lot of the time, Birchkit never speaks, though can easily and happily uphold a conversation when approached. Otherwise, he simply blends into the background, not the kind to socialise just yet.

"It's dad's fault that I have to lie to mum. If he just stayed, none of this would've happened."
Having never seen his father despite his mother's constant worshipping of him, Birchkit was never quite sure what to think of him. Caring so deeply for his kin, he saw it right to lie to her in an attempt to keep her happy. Meanwhile, however, he holds nothing but resentment for the tom who left them behind, and soon became more jaded due to the abandonment. Deep down, Birchkit is purely desperate to have a functioning family, and is very reliant on his family structure remaining stable.

Nothing can get past Birchshade. He's an alert and attentive cat, and interprets every single action and word he catches onto. His perceptive abilities allow him to always be on guard and ready for practically anything. To add onto his capabilities, Birch is very persuasive. He excels in bending others to his whim with honeyed words and tones, and uses this to his advantage whenever he can.

"Why should I believe you? For all I know, you're out to get me."
Birch doesn't risk anything he can avoid risking. Trusting others is a risk he often refuses to take, even if he feeds off of their appreciation. Even his loved ones can have trouble breaking past his fake optimism and friendliness, though he believes that to be a good thing. Birch knows that no cat wants to love what lays beneath the skin. Unlike his father, Birch is intent on challenging others, and has a competitive spirit. Practically nothing can get the blood pumping for Birch than a good competition.

"Don't be ridiculous. I own you."
There's a lot to Birch that doesn't meet the eye of many cats, and those who haven't seen this side of him are lucky. Any enemy of Birch will know of his scornful nature, his likelihood to torment them until they can take no more. It doesn't take much for Birch to feel betrayed, and when he feels betrayed, the cat on the receiving end of his temper will never hear the end of it. Sometimes, a cat will pique his interest, and if he manages to persuade them into staying with him, they'll most likely never leave. Birch is very possessive of his closest friends and his romantic interests, and has a tendency to treat them as his and his alone.
