The ragged black tom picked up the stunned kit from where she landed on the ground, slipping into the shadows. The tiny scrap of fur, like most of its kind, wasn't very observant; it was easy to leap up and snatch it. Too bad it fell to the ground, the tom thought. At least it won't squirm and mewl.
Charlie bristled with sudden fear. "Where'd she go?" Eyes wide, he stared at Magma. "Don'tcha see your kitten got snatched!?"
