Mudnose knew he wouldn't be part of this because he wasn't part of the family but he couldn't suppress a tear. This was the last time he would ever see the kit before he himself went to StarClan. The kit would never grow up or enjoy being a warrior, fighting for his Clan.

Perchkit panted heavily, fighting the next spasm he could feel building within his little body. He reached out a paw toward Bramble, but couldn't quite reach the tom and didn't have the strength to get up again. "I'm right here daddy," he said sweetly, not understanding the gravity of his father's words. He felt like he could have fallen asleep here, nice and safe between the cats he loved most. If it weren't for this awful pain. Another wave of agony crashed over him, making his body twitch. When the fit was over, he looked pleadingly at the area where the medicine cat had gone, hoping she'd be back soon to help him stop hurting.
